Re: New Players Being Added

Scouting report courtesy of OBR.com

"Brandon McDonald emerged quickly his rookie year after being drafted in the fifth round by the Browns, who were desperate at the cornerback position after the loss of Gary Baxter to a career-ending patella tear. Once given the opportunity, McDonald showed good ball instincts by ripping down several interceptions when inserted in as a nickel back, and was elevated to a starting role in 2008. Unfortunately, McDonald was not able to hold onto the role, and found himself benched at several points because of his performance in 2008 and 2009. McDonald's off-field judgement is also sometimes questionable, as indicated by an obscene tweet aimed at Terrell Owens which got local headlines earlier this year.

Like the Cardinal's other ex-Brown acquisition this off-season, Derek Anderson, McDonald displayed coach-endangering inconsistency in Cleveland, looking like an All-Pro one game and being a coverage liability the next. With respect to the 2010 pre-season, McDonald made some timely plays in pre-season and seemed likely to make the team despite the off-season acquisition of CB Sheldon Brown and team's decision to spend a first-round pick on Joe Haden.

The Browns decided to keep special teams standout Mike Adams instead, and today have reportedly added CB Quincy Butler, who also is a strong special teams contributor. Beyond the special teams contributions of the two backups left on the Cleveland roster, sources inside the organization tell the OBR that they were looking for a more physical presence in the defensive backfield, and that McDonald's film just didn't show him as being the physical player they wanted. Reagan Maui'a has reportedly been released. Another fullback must be coming because Maui'a was the only one on the roster.

Not sure about a FB but you did just get Ian Johnson from Minnesota. He's a good RB that never got his chance with the Vikings.

He made quite a splash in your stadium Jan 1st 2007 in the Fiesta Bowl. Maybe he can do it again.

Re: New Players Being Added

In addition to Maui'a, LB Pago Togafau and CB Marshay Green have been released. Togafua not so surprising but Green - who's had a solid camp and preseason - came fairly unexpected. Especially since CB A.J. Jefferson remains. Maybe Jefferson will stick around after all.

FB Jerome Johnson is the only other signing to report. Formerly of the New York Giants.

So did we pick up Ian Johnson as the above poster implied? I've been searchin' and can't find the evidence.

I've only seen his posts around the network, nothing else. Not say he's wrong or anything. It would only be to the practice squad, if true. No way he'd be on the 53-man.

McDonald is a sniper.  He has excellent coverage skills.  Look for some INT activity when he is on the field.

Re: New Players Being Added

RB Ian Johnson and WR Isaiah Williams confirmed to be on the Cardinals' practice squad.

Two more players joining them are offensive linemen Herman Johnson and Tom Pestock. Johnson is somewhat of a surprise considering he was expected to garner interest from other teams' 53-man rosters.

Re: New Players Being Added & Practice Squad

Two more members have been added to the practice squad. WR Tim Brown (New York Giants) and LB Curtis Gatewood (Washington Redskins) will be heading to the desert.

The final two spots should be filled early this week.
