Another Candidate surfaces

Cards reportedly looking at Darrell Bevell. This could be very promising if it works out but not getting my hopes up. Man I think this could be the first off season that drives me to drink!

I like Darrell Bevell, but don't see where he's got a leg up on Ray Horton in any department.

RE: Another Candidate surfaces

I did not realize he was from Arizona.

Place of birth: Yuma, Arizona
High school: Scottsdale (AZ) Chaparral

Bevell has been an offensive coordinator for seven years. I think he's a bit more seasoned than Horton. I would guess him being hired is a pretty realistic scenario.

If Bidwill goes back and promotes Horton, it just wreaks of a fall back (4th, 5th, 6th choice??). With all of the candidates he's now looked into, I don't think Horton is much of an option - would send some very bad signals.

Knows the division, has a home here, ran a pretty damn good offensive unit, and gets to leave Pete the Cheat in Seattle.  Seems like a good enough fit.  Interested ?  Yes !

BTW Cards asked permission to interview Bruce Arians yesterday biggrin

RE: Another Candidate surfaces

Another reason I like Bevell is that he would come in from an offensive coordinator position under a defensive minded head coach (Carroll). That means he had a ton of input on the offense and likely made the majority of decisions around the offense.

On the other hand, if you're an OC on a team with an offensive minded head coach (like Andy Reid, Sean Payton, etc) you just really don’t know how much input the OC really had. Sure, it's great experience to work under a head coach like that, but one has to assume the head coach is doing a lot of the heavy lifting there and the OC’s impact might have been limited.

Bevell is credited with turning rookie QB Russell Wilson into a star in one year.  Prior to that he had 6 years to turn Tarvaris Jackson into one.

He was also QB coach for Brett Favre. He brings a lot more to the table regarding our needs on offense Wellfed as compared to Horton. Meanwhile with all the hirings thus far, I think it puts all the fear expressed about losing Horton to an HC offer a little to rest. And I still suspect the suggestion to promote Horton to HC was more a result of that fear and that it was just a way to keep him in the organization. If we get Bevell, I like our chances. Even better than if we had gotten Reid or McCoy.

Re: Another Candidate surfaces

and another, and another, and another........when will this merry-go-round end?

It has been happening with Cardinal QB's for years.......

The risk of failure is great, but the risk of not making the necessary changes to improve ones self will surely spell disaster!

Who knows offenses better than a defensive coordinator?  That's what they study for a living.

Re: Another Candidate surfaces

Who can teach an Offense especially a QB and OL ?  I don't have faith in Horton's choice of staff under him that he wants to bring in.  It is cronyville just like Whiz had.  It drove us into the ground.

If we botch this hiring, we are looking at the lost decade.  Take it slow and find the best fit not just the company man.

Re: Another Candidate surfaces

Bevell seems like a perfect fit for the Cards.. knows QBs, deprives a division rival.  Who knows, he might even be able to make something out of Skelton yet before we give up on him totally?  Bevell certainly would be an upgrade in the QB assessment / development department.

An offensive coordinator......that's why they're the ones hired to run the offense.

A good DC is going to notice a good offense faster than anyone.

Okay, I'm [again] not sure where you're going with this.
