Nice move, well respected in the league. I hope he goes after OL hard whether FA or draft. This O needs to get fixed and now!

Good job Mikey B !  Would have been a shame to lose him.  Like the continuity and he has been sought after by other teams the past couple seasons.  Now he can focus on getting us the next piece of the puzzle.

I really admire Michael Bidwill's tendency to promote from within.  This may lend some credence to the Haley/Horton choice.

Hiring from with in is great if you have success...New blood is what this team needed...time will tell.
BE MORE CONCERNED WITH YOUR CHARACTER THAN YOUR REPUTATION. YOUR CHARACTER IS WHO YOU REALLY ARE, AND YOUR REPUTATION IS ONLY WHAT OTHERS THINK YOUR ARE.....

RE: Cardinals name Keim new general manager

It's been coming out in local media that Keim was one of the lone voices of dissent during the draft where we took Levi over AP (Keim thought AP was going to be a superstar and wasn't sold on Levi's stock).  The year prior to that, he was adamant Cutler was going to be a much better QB than Leinart and tried to convince the powers to be to go after Cutler.  His point was even more validated when Shanahan traded up to #11 right after us to grab Cutler for his QB of the future.

Had to laugh during his press conference when he said he first knew he wanted to be a GM at I think he said 7 years old !  He has literally been preparing his whole life for this opportunity, glad to see we are the ones giving him a shot.

A victory for BPA, I hope.

Are you a robot?  The blind insistence on "BPA" with an offensive line like that kinda indicates you don't really watch the games.  This isn't a fantasy football team we're building here.

What's not to like about Adrian Peterson, Frank?  His ego, perhaps?

I don't recall saying anything negative about AP.

Do you think BPA would have net us AP instead of right tackle, Levi Brown?  If we didn't already have Edge and the NEED to protect Matt Leinart's blind side for years to come?

I think you're assuming FO had AP ranked ahead of Brown and went against the board.  It sounds like Keim was one of the few if not only voices stating that idea was wrong. Grimm raved about Brown before the draft.  Whiz was big on him and apparently so was Graves.  BPA also only works if talent evaluation is done properly.  wink

Re: Cardinals name Keim new general manager

How can WE do anything OTHER than assume or presume things?  We don't typically have any cold hard facts.  I didn't like the talk I was hearing though with Leinart and then Brown.  The talk SUGGESTS Brown merely compounded the mistake of drafting Leinart and replacing his coach with a coach that just wasn't that into him.  IF my THEORY is correct we spent two consecutive firsts on a plan for need that didn't pan out.  There was also the talk about Peterson not being NEEDED because of the Edge signing.  I wish Adrian Peterson was a Cardinal right NOW, it SEEMS we just didn't NEED him at the time.  I'm a Vikings fan second, so that much worked out for me.  biggrin

Re: Cardinals name Keim new general manager

Yes, but with the O-line we have had the past few years, AP wouldn't be getting the same props he has in MN.  Guy is a beast, but he has also had very impressive O-lines in front of him opening up gaps that any RB could at least look decent.  In some ways it would have been a waste of talent.  Same if Manning had came here.  For his sake, I'm glad he didn't.  This line would have literally killed a HOF'ers career.

I stand by my statement, need should be factored into the equation - not the only factor which I think is what you might be interpreting I'm saying.

All things being equal, need SHOULD carry the day.  And how can you NOT assume an offense would not be built around Adrian Peterson, given his gift?  Don't forget, if we had Adrian Peterson, we'd also have Matt Kalil.  We'd also have one less Super Bowl appearance.  wink

Re: Cardinals name Keim new general manager

Need is always a factor.. if a team did pure "BPA" (gee, I seem so much smarter having typed that!) every year, they'd be a mess.

Because if they're stupid enough to neglect obvious positions in need of upgrade.. say, like the offensive line.. then they're probably stupid enough to not really be that good at assessing talent in the first place.

"Need" also means ensuring depth at every position, given the violent nature of the game.  But a team that was (A) the worst at giving up sacks and (B) the worst at running the football?  Don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out what positions need to be the focus of the upcoming draft.

You don't have be a rocket scientist to know that the draft isn't the only way to acquire players, either.

Re: Cardinals name Keim new general manager

You don't have be a rocket scientist to know that if you overpay one player in a system with a hard cap you will have less money to work with elsewhere.  You need to maximize the value of your resource.  When you reach for a player you end up paying more for that player than he's worth.  Now, obviously, a team needs to take SMALL hits in the draft to maximize efficiency.  Mistakes and compromise in later rounds aren't going to hurt as much as doing so early, either.
