Two Words

Two Words

Chris Ivory.  Anyone remember my commentary on our lack of commitment to the run game?  Now then, this cat absolutely ran us into the ground today and yes....we traded him knowing full well how well he could run the ball.  Our running game did the same as it typically does which is little.  This coupled with our receivers attending volleyball setting practice topped off an absolutely dismal performance.  At this point, I think it is likely we'll go to the playoffs but anyone dreaming of much coming from it is smoking weed again.  Garrett Hartley probably should go away.  He kicked us to the Super Bowl but I think we've kept him long enough.  Also, what is the deal with Drew's passes being behind or underthrown more than usual?  All together now:  We are committed to the run game!

Re: Two Words

Chris Ivory would not have done what he did today had he been wearing white. He was never a clear #1 in New Orleans, so odds are he would have done about what Ingram did: 4 carries for 19 yards.

The 'secret' to the loss today was their D-line being a lot better than our O-line, and that is going to happen against the better teams. The Saints have let two very good O-linemen walk the last two seasons and they did not replace them in-kind. And this is what happens.

Re: Two Words

I've made lengthy comments about the O Line as well.  The point here is that no matter what is said, if your true talent is more to running the ball or the running game, this will always come in second to passing game and match-ups period.  There is no argument.  It just so happened that during our super bowl run the running game was simply a welcome accident and not by design.  So when they say "we are re-newing our commitment to the run," it is lip service and BS.  We all know that teams who don't have a true commitment to fundamentals that make a successful offense (ie a genuine running attack) you don't go very far.  They are claiming "THIS" but we all see "THAT."  Whatever keeps us in front of the TV or in the stands.  Chris Ivory is simply the latest version/proof of SP refusing to acknowledge that by adjusting his game plan he can make the team better.  I've said to trade Mark Ingram as I fear it is the same with him.  Like I said, this started with SP's treatment of Deuce and continues to happen.  He will not field a team that takes the running game seriously (intentionally).  His backs are expected to be primarily screen runners and so long as this works, things are great but when it doesn't, it really falls apart.  Good bad or otherwise this is SP but when you stand back, as a true football knowledge guy, you know that ultimately this will do little to win superbowls.  Just ask Payton Manning who arguably is one of the greatest pure passing QB's to grace the field.

And not to beat a dead horse but if you are not a running team and make a commitment to the Offensive Line to sure up the running game then that is another reason that you do not spend a First round pick and give away a number two for a RB.

That could be two young lineman playing right now.

Totally agree with all said here....the O-line stunk...and has been stinking up the joint...this season in particular...the offense in general stuttered their way through the game...1/2 of Jimmy Graham...no Sproles...no Colston...Toon couldn't hold onto a ball...Drew taking sacks...Hartley missing field goals...run defense stunk up the place...all in all...a total team loss...offense...defense and special teams....

And the refs still missed a ton of holding calls.
