Mingo and Jarvis Jones are sitting for us at the 15th spot...

Mingo and Jarvis Jones are sitting for us at the 15th spot...

biggrin

....which player do you like for the Saints to pick ? LSU DE/OLB Barkevious Mingo, Georgia OLB Jarvis Jones or just pass on the both of them and pick another player ?  noidea

Please read before picking:

- LSU DE/OLB Barkevious Mingo measured 6-foot-4 1/4 and 241 pounds at Saturday's NFL Combine weigh-in.If Mingo seems shorter than expected, it's because he plays very upright on tape and that's among the concerns for him among NFL evaluators. When Mingo makes himself an upright target for offensive linemen, he becomes easier to block. We still suspect the freakishly athletic Mingo will star in Combine workouts.

-League personnel are reportedly not surprised Georgia OLB Jarvis Jones is skipping Combine workouts because he's not expected to "test very well" in the 40-yard dash and vertical leap."Numerous sources" tell NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah that Jones needs extra time to improve his test numbers because his measurable athleticism is unimpressive. Jones is the only player sitting out the Combine despite being 100 percent. It's quite possible his "stock will drop" if he tests poorly at Pro Day.

I haven't heard of either one of these 2 ( they're not on the Panthers radar since they are LBers). I would choose Mingo sounds like he's the better of the 2. Also Mingo sounds awfully close to Mongo....

Saints need to STAY THE FREAK AWAY from defensive players out of Georgia. Take Mingo or his teammate from the other side.

I would doubt that Jones could fall that far.  If he did it would be because the doctors found something.

Word is that he is skipping the combine because doctors have some questions about a diagnois of spinal stenouis (sp).  He was told at USC and they would not let him play and then he went to UGA.

Mingo could fall to the 15th position. I just don't know if any player between picks say 6-15 are going to be those one in a lifetime type players that change the game.

In other words, there are so many players that are rated about the same from 6-25 that all will probably be solid players for years to come but there isnt that one or two players in that bunch where you would say that person is going to be an All-Pro player.

Only five picks for the Saints since Ruud moved the 7th to Seattle. LOL. Any compensatory picks? I probably shouldn't even ask. The Saints'll probably lose one more when they HAVE to move up and grab that can't miss player, LOL. I'd really like to be a draft scout with the Saints. Just kick back all day.

LOL I don't think that any team ever does that.  Point is that you could be sitting there about to start the 3rd round and have a guy that you had slotted for the bottom of the first or top of the second round that is still sitting on the board.

So as a scout and a GM you have to be able to say would I give up this year's 3rd round pick and next year's 3rd or 4th round pick to move up and take him.

Dion Jordan is a prime example.  There is a story out right now that says that he may require shoulder surgery.  Now he is expected to be available for the start of training camp but may not be.  So several teams may pass on the kid if they feel like they need immediate help and he may not be ready.

So If you are the Saints and say that you already picked at 15th and know you are in the top of the second round.  Would you give up this year's 3rd round and next year's 2nd round pick for the chance to take a player you had ranked in the top 12-15 in the draft.

For one thing you get himk a year early.  If he made it back by training camp great if he didnt and it took him another 2-3 weeks you could still bring him along by the start of the season or by Week 4 and you might have a special player for what might turn out to be two picks one around pick 60-64 and the other around 92-96.

As much as I love LSU, I think I'd rather have Jones...while he may not test as well as mingo will he was a far superior player in college...the guy has been a difference maker since he set foot on Georgia's campus...I've seen far to many workout warriors like Mingo fall flat on their faces in the pros to know that you don't pass on a good solid football player for some freak athlete who really wasn't that dominant of a player in college.

I'm an LSU fan and i'd rather Jones as well, however if all reports are true about Jarvis Jones' health then i'd like for the Saints to pick Mingo.I'm sure the Saints will investigate Jones health before considering him as their 1st pick....yes indeed....biggrin

Re: If Mingo and Jarvis Jones are sitting for us at the 15th

Mingo had his moments at LSU...but I wasn't overly impressed with him this past season...surely not enough that I'd grab him at 15....and you'd be taking a risk by taking Jones at 15...I actually liked Tao with Notre Dame for awhile...until I watched him in the BCS Championship game...he looked like a gril amongst men in that game...scratch him at 15...it most likely that the players that I would like to have will be gone by the time we pick at 15...so I'm not getting my hopes up...and it's likely that the organization may seek to drop back a few spots to possibly land a 2nd round pick....who knows noidea...trying to guess what will happen and then what does actually happen leaves me scratching my head at times...so I'll just wait and see what does transpire...and hope we land someone good.....

Those he's raw....Ansah would be the answer to whom we should draft....and after further review....Jarvis Jones may not be that bad of a pick either...they may be putting to much stock  into why USC let him walk...sure he has that spine degeneration thingy...but the kid did excel at Georgia...it's funny how all this info comes out at the combine...nothing mentioned beforehand...so...he may be worth a roll of the dice...

Re: Mingo and Jarvis Jones are sitting for us at the 15th

Jarvis Jones was either the best or the second best defensive player in college football last year. He was so much better than Teo that it was a joke (hell, CJ Mosely was a lot better than Teo).

I'd take him in a heartbeat if he was still there.
