Saints release David Thomas and Johnny Patrick 


The New Orleans Saints have released veteran tight end David Thomas and waived cornerback Johnny Patrick, the team announced Tuesday.

Thomas held a salary cap number of $2.2 million with a base salary of $1.5 million for 2013, which was the final year of his contract. Patrick was only set to make $555,000 in base salary in 2013 with a cap figure around $740,000.

A shade over 2 million. 

Unlike the writer I understand the Dave Thomas Move.  You are saving $1.5 million for a player that barely played last year.  You have a chance to go out and sign a new younger TE that you can mold and probably spend about 500K so a net saving of 1 million. 

I dont understand the Patrick move right now.  I would have wanted until after the draft and free agency, but I guess they knew they were ready to say goodbye.

Look for this season to look like 2006.  Its time to find the right 53.  They may not be the best 53, but they need to be the right 53.

Chargers picked up JP.  They get Meachem and Patrick.  We get Brees and Sproles.
