Lofton restructures deal to create necessary cap space

The New Orleans Saints apparently have started making room to get under the salary cap. Linebacker Curtis Lofton has restructured his contract to help free up some salary cap space.

Lofton confirmed the move to NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune Friday afternoon after it was first reported by ESPN.com.

Maybe now ya'll can pay the power bills to keep the lites on.... (sorry, but it will be a classic moment in Super Bowl history just like Janets wardrobe "malfuntion.)

I know some is tired of hearing about the power outage, so I won't say no more about it.

Dang !   biggrin

EDIT:The Saints were expected to be about $20 million over the salary cap. But General Manager Mickey Loomis appears to be working to do away with that number.

Down to 16 million and still working those deals.  Loomis has to shave 16 million by March 12th when free agency begins.

Ideally he would be able to bring the New Orleans number down a lot lower as the Saints still need to be able to sign draft picks and replace several people on the roster.

As of right now the roster would be short a few people.  Ellis, Bushrod, Henderson, Humber, Casillas, McBride and Mack.  So at least the 53-man roster is at 46 right now.  Now some of those will be taken by draft picks and some slots can be taken by players that are already on the extended roster like Nick Toon.  He is already paid so he is counted in the Salary number.  Salary Cap includes all players on the team.
