Saints contact Crennel about DC job 

New Orleans Saints Coach Sean Payton said he would take his time hiring a new defensive coordinatorafter firing Steve Spagnuolo on Thursday. It doesn't mean the Saints will take their time in reaching out to potential candidates, though.

The Saints have reached out to former Chiefs Coach Romeo Crennel to discuss the team's defensive coordinator job, a league source said. There also could be interest in former Jets Coach Eric Mangini for the vacant defensive coordinator position, ESPN reported Friday. The report also said it was possible that Crennel and Mangini could wind up on the same staff in New Orleans in two separate positions.

Romeo Crennel as a head coach was horrendous....I don't remember the Chiefs really being that dominant of a 3-4 defense....Mangini sounds interesting...

What's going to be VERY interesting is the fact that we're going to be the only team in the NFC South that'll be running a 3-4 defense...let's see how fast the other 3 teams follow suit if we become a nightmare for them....tongue

I don't know if you are necessarily looking at a bunch of changes on defense by our division rivals, but it will change the way teams will attack you on defense.
