Saints still have glimmer of playoff hope
EDIT:Essentially the Saints need to win all of their games and have everybody else in the NFC wild-card playoff hunt except the Redskins to lose all of their games. The Saints need the Bears, Vikings, Giants and Cowboys to lose out. They also need the Rams to lose once, either to the Bucs or Seahawks. If all of those things happen -- a 1-9 finish by five playoff contenders -- then the Saints would earn the No. 6 seed by virtue of their record vs. common opponents, the fourth criterion in the NFC tiebreaker format for three or more teams. nola.com

Re: Saints still have glimmer of playoff hope
My wife actually made me figure this out yesterday. I told here to give it up.
Very possible that the Vikings lose both of their final games.
The Cowboys would obviously have to lose to the Saints and then could lose to the Redskins.
Now the Bears and the Giants that is where it gets dicey. Bears are @ Arizona and @ Detroit. Pretty Bad Teams.
The Giants are @ Baltimore which they could lose and then play Philly.

Re: Saints still have glimmer of playoff hope
I would almost be willing to bet that the Vikings and Cowboys lose both games, but I think the Giants and Bears will find a way to win one of their final two games.

dont forget about the Redskins who play the Cowboys in the final week. So One of those two will win, kinda ending yalls hope.

A win over the VERY lucky Cowboys and I am happy. Never seen a team luck out so much. Qb throws "should be" picks right in the hands of defenders and they drop them. Luck out with "Squeaker" wins. Just want THIS ONE

Washington would win the East because of their win over Dallas in Week 17 and the 2 Giants losses. Washington would be the only team from the East to make the playoffs. Seattle would be the 5th seed and the Saints would be the 6th seed, but it is so unlikely.

Seems like every win they stink it up for 58 minutes, do just enough to stay close, get one drive and take the lead or go to OT and win it.

Re: Saints still have glimmer of playoff hope
I guess this might mean something if any of us actually thought we had a shot at the playoffs going into today. Most of us pretty much knew we were out of it several weeks ago so no real shock that we were "mathematically" eliminated today. But hey if this little victory can finally get the sour taste of the Saints ending your playoff dreams several years ago and the having to watch us go on to win the Super Bowl, then more power to you. Maybe you can finally find some closure and move on. Rather than come here with a sad attempt at gloating, you should probably be more concerned about the nice season your Vikes are quietly putting together. I think if you can get in as a wild card and Ponder gets some consistency you guys could make a run and surprise quite a few people. savannahskol wrote:

Say it. Say it. Who eliminated you today? With their win on the road vs the #1 AFC seed?
LOL. Luv ya, Kjun and Saints fans.

WOW, time to move on. Saints eliminated themselves with such a poor start to the season.

Re: Saints still have glimmer of playoff hope
LOL savannah. OK I will say it. Even though the Saints had no real chance at making the playoffs and to do so: every team in the NFL would have had to lose, all the planets had to be aligned, and Christian Ponder would have to pass for over 200 yards. But since none of that happened we were mathematically eliminated because the Vikings beat the Texans. Happy now? Kidding aside, not a fan of the Vikings by any stretch but good luck the rest of the way. You can't ask for a better scenario considering the seasons the Vikings have had the last couple of years. Win and your in. savannahskol wrote:

Re: Saints still have glimmer of playoff hope
I think it was the Giants who eliminated us with the 8th Loss.
If you go back after the first 4 weeks I said that it would take 10-6 with a slight possibility of 9-7.
So 10-6 would have definitely gotten in and 9-7 would have had you in a tiebreaker.
