Fellas no reason to finish this season
I know many will not agree, but the playoffs are gone. The TD record is gone and the chance of injuries are there.
Players like Cadet, Morgan and Daniel should be able to get on the field and show what they can do. Especially Daniel. He will never be a starter in New Orleans unless there is injury, but he could use significant playing time that he has not gotten as Brees has been breaking records. You never know when he may need to play.
On the defensive side, maybe you give Patrick and Mack more snaps. Maybe you go ahead and have Smith sit out 2 games and let Vilma sit out the final 4 games. I know they do not want to admit guilt, but you cannot have this drag into next season if you are bringing them back.
Also the other obvious thing is why ruin what could be a Top 10-15 draft pick and thus 2 picks in the Top 50.

Re: Fellas no reason to finish this season
I was just thinking about this with Daniel earlier. There's no reason for us not to play him from here on out. I agree about the other guys as well.

Re: Fellas no reason to finish this season
In addition to the higher draft pick is also the schedule consideration.
If New Orleans finishes 3rd in the South they will play the 3rd place NFC East team at home and the NFC North team on the road.
That would likely mean playing Dallas or Washington at home and Minnesota on the road.
A 2nd place finish would also mean either Dallas or Washington at home, but Green Bay on the road.
The Saints will also be going to St Louis, Seattle, New England, NY Jets, and the traditional NFC South teams.

Re: Fellas no reason to finish this season
I'm not saying that they will deliberately lose games, but there are situations that are looming that need to be address.
Players that need to be developed and Suspensions that need to be served. Those suspensions are not going away. We all support Vilma's right to defend himself, but at some point just say "I don't agree, but I want to put it behind me"
You also could ask if Smith and Vilma are even going to be brought back.

Re: Fellas no reason to finish this season
I'm not saying they should deliberately lose games, either, but that they could use this missed opportunity of making the playoffs and give our newbies more playing time. Rest players like Pierre and Lance for example, and above all players like Mark who was gang tackled so often running up the gut all the time. Plays like that will take their toll. Of course, you can't let them sit for the rest of the season, so if I were coach I'd ask around who wanted to play and make the game plans in accordance to the players' wishes. Then let them go out there and simply have some fun and gain more experience without any pressure to make the playoffs.

Re: Fellas no reason to finish this season
You could feature Ivory or Cadet a little more during the final games also. You never know you could be sitting on draft day with an offer on the table for one of them.
Or even Ingram...

Jackofalltrades1977 wrote: Loser attitude. This is a business. There is no benefit to not making the playoffs and in fact little benefit of not winning it all. For a handful of teams they will make strides this year towards getting better. Other will capitalize on that in the future and other will regress. The Saints are filled with veteran players that know how to win, so they will not need the rah-rah speech. They need to come back with a new defense scheme and a few different players to run that defense. As a business, you should want to take advantage of every opportunity to better yourself in the future.

Re: Fellas no reason to finish this season
I don't read Tiger as advocating losing on purpose, but to use players that are not starters that have shown potential and get them some experience.
I remember in the late 90's, David Robinson of the NBA Spurs went down with a season ending knee injury. The coach basically rested most of the starters for the remainder of the season and gave the reserves some playing time. The next year they drafted Tim Duncan as the #1 pick and you know the rest.

RE: Fellas no reason to finish this season
It does seem like the Bengals ascribed to this method for their two losses to the Whiners in their only Superbowl appearances. They'd go through a number of years of top five draft picks, finally get to the SB, and four or five more years of top draft picks after another bottoming out. Thence another SB, LOL. So many top picks and a few lemons like Ki-Jana Carter. Meanwhile a slew of mediocre teams getting their patented mid-round picks stayed mid-level in the wins and losses and each year watched the ploayoffs on TV.
