Jason Babin cut by Eagles

REPORT: It hasn’t taken long for Babin to start lining up
interviews. He is on his way to Atlanta to interview with the Falcons and will
proceed to the New Orleans Saints following his interview with Atlanta. From
there Jason will head to Denver on Wednesday night to talk shop with the
Broncos. Another team that could be interested in his services are the Detroit
Lions who also run the wide-9.

He wants to go to a contender, which NO isn't right now.

Also, he has to clear waivers first.

RE: Jason Babin cut by Eagles

The Saints should jump all over this.  I know he wants to go to a winner and that might not be the Saints this year, but Babin has 3 years left on his deal so this would actually be a pick for the future and not just this year.

Babin has 3 years left on his contract at around 5 million a year.  He had 18 sacks in 2011 and would be a great replacement for Smith who is getting Older at a much cheaper price.  At 5 million he would be a bargain and without burning a draft pick.

Waivers starts with the worst teams and go up so the Saints at 5-6 would have to have him pass several teams.  Saints will pick 15th.

Who will get first crack at Babin? Here's the waiver order, according to the NFL:

1. Kansas City Chiefs

2. Jacksonville Jaguars

3. Philadelphia Eagles

4. Oakland Raiders

5. Cleveland Browns

6. Carolina Panthers

7. San Diego Chargers

8. Buffalo Bills

9. Tennessee Titans

10. Detroit Lions

11. Arizona Cardinals

12. New York Jets

13. St. Louis Rams

14. Miami Dolphins

15. New Orleans Saints

16. Washington Redskins

17. Dallas Cowboys

T-18. Cincinnati Bengals

T-18. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

20. Pittsburgh Steelers

21. Minnesota Vikings

22. Seattle Seahawks

23. Indianapolis Colts

24. New York Giants

25. Green Bay Packers

26. New England Patriots

27. Denver Broncos

28. Chicago Bears

29. San Francisco 49ers

30. Baltimore Ravens

31. Atlanta Falcons

32. Houston Texans

He didn't get passed the Jags.

I knew he wouldn't slip far.

Guess the Raiders' McClain is the next Chief or Jaguar. Do those teams get dibs on every team's malcontents until their bursting at the seams with castoffs?

Well Babin is a good player and a good guy- McClain hasn't really shown to be either. Seems like a good fit in Cincy.

Get this.  The waiver offer is a blind offer.  So you have to offer and then they see how far up the line it goes.

So you can't just offer to block another team from getting him.

I post this because this morning NFL Radio said that only the Jags, Bills and Redskins made the offer to take Babin.

Why the Saints would not put their hat in the ring I have no idea?  Seems like a no brainer, but they were not alone.  Now some might have had Salary Cap issues.  But it would have cost you about 1.5 million to get a 5 game look at the guy and to make a decision to bring him back next year.
