Beating the 49ers will be the key to the rest of this season!
Saints need to finish 4-2 and in order to do that a win next week in New Orleans crucial. Can they do it? Can they beat what may be the most fundamentally sound team in the NFL?
Those early losses to Charlotte and KC are really, really hurting right now.

Re: Beating the 49ers will be the key to the rest of this
I agree that beating San Fran is essential, but only because it is the next game.
Your assessment of 4-2 would give the Saints an overall record of 9-7 which would be a decent record given the 0-4 start, but will likely miss the playoffs.
This will have them playing 9-3 ball since the 0-4 start, but missing the playoffs is still missing the playoffs and only has us picking further down the line in the draft.
I still think the Seahawks are the team to beat. It is unlikely that the Seahawks will lose another 2 games, so to think that we could see three losses would be rare.
The truth is that right now we probably can only afford one more loss--out of the SF, Atlanta, NY Giants and Carolina. Tampa and Dallas are pretty much must wins.

Niners are the hottest and maybe the best team in the NFC, if not the NFL.
I just can't see you all beating them.
I do think you beat Tampa.

I think the fact that the Saints can score and it is at home gives us a great chance.
Thgis will be a last possession type game and the Saints will need to force FGs and redzone turnovers to put themselves in position.

Lol.
You've played ONE good defense and they held you to 14 points.
SF is the second overall D, first in scoring. They're O doesn't suck, but your D does.
I can't imagine this is even close. The Smith's are going to harrass Brees, their LB's are stupid good.

You can't imagine this will be close. Every game we have played this year has been close except for the Denver game.

That's partially my point- the ONE good D you played killed you and SF is even better at every level.

This is the "same" 49er D [that had we not turned the ball over 5 times in the game] that we almost beat last season in San Fran....nothings changed...I expect alot better game out of us...especially if we avoid the costly mistakes that killed us early last time...plus...as Tiger said...we're at home...better conditions...and we play better at home...just ask the Falcons...they were the #1 Power ranked team at the time we played them....even their own on the rise offense couldn't do it against our "supposed" horrid defense...

What does Manning have to do with y'all scoring 14 points?

I suppose we'll just use this as the game thread.

Jackofalltrades1977 wrote: What does Manning have to do with y'all scoring 14 points? The effect it has is that everything is relevant within the game. Manning plays the Falcons and throws 3 interceptions in the first half and Atlanta jumps on them early. Manning provided no interceptions for the Saints. It is the game within the game. Yes we scored 14 points and maybe that was because we were always driving 80 yards. If Manning is not on the opposite sidelines maybe Denver gets a few less first downs. Maybe they punt from their 25 a few times instead of the 50 yardline. Mayberthe Saints get a turnover or two and set up good field position. I will point out that the Saints defense had something to say about that and it was Vitt's first game back and first chance to get back into a game with Spags.

If we win out we still have a shot at a wild card, hence at being the first team to win the Superbowl in their own house, right?
