The decision to keep Nakamura in the lineup also says much about the organization’s lack of faith in Sherrod Martin, a two-year starter who has become a special teams player since Nakamura’s arrival. Martin had a series of missed open-field tackles in 2011, prompting a dismissive comment from owner Jerry Richardson in an Observer Q&A after the season.

Martin was asked if he was surprised Nakamura is still starting.

“Am I surprised? No, he’s been doing a great job,” Martin said.

He's too much like Munnerlyn to start. He may know the presnap alignments, he just doesn't have the size and athleticism to execute it.

His one job on that last drive was to keep everyone infront of him- he blew and it cost us the win.

I'm having a hard time with this. Sorry for the somewhat Foxish statement, but our roster is what it is. There are no better options in FA, and I'm sure a draft day upgrade is forthcoming. However, is Nakamura really the lesser of two evils? Is he getting some sort of credit for having to learn a new defensive scheme, or being the new guy. I understand having more upside, and showing it on the practice field but it MUST transfer to gameday.
Waiting until halfway through the season is waiting too long.
I want to know what the coaching staff sees that we dont.

Nakamura's edge is that he knows how to align everyone according to the offense, Martin can't do that. Martin was also a dreadful tackler, but he's more instinctive and far more athletic.

Having just watched a replay I have to dock Naka for both TD's to White. He knew we were in Zone and White was in the slot being covered by Beason. Still, he played way too deep and gave Ryan an easy throw on an obvious mismatch.

honestly,he isnt much worse than anyone else in our secondary, even gamble would probably be a back-up on a competitive team

No, Gamble was the third most effective CB in the NFL last year.

well i know you guys usually think it is too early to think about next years draft. But I think there is a decent Safety in it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGXKM-wLFJE before you guys say "not another USC player" Its usually the offensive players that haven't panned out (Exception being Kalil). Many say he is more rounded than Taylor Mays so he shouldn't be a bust. but anywho thats next season (and with our Safeties as they are maybe when it comes to that position That should probably be the teams first target.

I'm liking what I see from Alabama's Dee Miliner. If you haven't seen him play yet, make it a point to do so soon.

It's tough to judge USC guys now because they're in a new system with new coaches, etc.

This kid does look legit though.

I am watching video on him and I see a CB for sure. Would like more of a guy with college Safety experience that can be groomed there. Plus he is a junior minus a really good year he could be staying. I would still take him if he came out he looks good
