Damn, now I have to call the Cardinals' defensive line and ask for my $500 back.

Re: Delhomme taken to the hospital

I had a feeling that it might be a fracture or broken rib. I am glad to hear that is not the case. "He needs to sit out about 4-6 games, maybe the season" is what I was hearing last night.

Well, might I be a devil's advocate. Does anyone here remember hearing the pundits saying that all they heard from the players was rallying around jakedelhomme, and Fox saying he wanted to instill confidence in his starting QB choice. We saw exactly that last night, and except for the usual Jordon Gross getting owned a few times, jakedelhomme was protected, and furred up! I am still glad to see the Moore factor being explored, but feel jakedelhomme got an extra "push" from his whole team to see him smiling again. That's a good thing, don't you think? I'd gamble Moore is starting next game...bruised ribs are manageable for McNabb, but jakdelhomme will just be too fragile IMHO.

Glad it is not serious. I was thinking broken ribs as well. He played well yesterday.

It's all relative, I guess, when people are saying Jake "played well" when he goes 7/14 for 90 yards and sits the 4th quarter. Ugh, how easily amused we must be.

RE: Delhomme taken to the hospital

when his average has been 2.5 picks per game, he did play well for him. Not well for an average NFL level QB, but well for his recent streak. Give him credit - he didn't muck it up more. But I also don't see him as the qb that we need to have, or rely on.

RE: Delhomme taken to the hospital

Prior to the injury he was 7/11 for 90 yeards and 1 TD, which is a 63.6% accuracy, 8.18 ypa, and a 119.5 rating.  I separate that from his final stats because Fox NEVER should have put Jake back in the game, which is why we just ended up pulling him again.  Putting Jake back in seemed to be more about a no confidence vote Fox was giving Moore than about Jake's health.

Holy crap! Hall of Fame careers are built on performances like that! I'm glad you clarified just how magnificent Jake was on this victorious Sunday. I just may vote him for the Pro Bowl this year.

I think most are pleased that he didn't throw any picks.  Does that mean he is due???

Any word on how he is feeling today? If he is going to start, I want him as close to 100% as possible.

Oh I'm sorry I guess we can never be satisfied with Jake's performance unless his numbers are on the level of Peyton Manning or Drew Brees eek1.  Excuse me for being satisfied with a solid outing that was enough both to keep the defense honest and to win the game.  Next time I'll remember that having godly numbers is all that matters.

They are keeping silent as usual, but my guess is he's gonna nag Fox to start him, which is like telling your Dad you want a second chance to drive the car now that the bumper's replaced, the windshield replaced and the bent wheels replaced..it is going to be hard..but damn, you are "his" kid! Jake plays, goes out again, and Moore takes us to the promised land..damn I am a punk ast pragmatic geezer!

I'm not looking for Brees or Manning, I'm just looking for some sign of life. I just don't think it was a "solid outing." I think of it more as a pedestrian outing and am thankful the running game exploded Sunday.

Actually, given that a 119 passer rating is 20+ points higher than the career record holder, yeah, that is the sort of performance Hall of Fame careers are built on. tongue

(Sorry, couldn't resist.)

RE: Delhomme taken to the hospital

Sure that rating might be what HOF careers are built on. Thing is - Jake's career isn't averaging anywhere near that. For that matter - what is is AVERAGE rating for the year? Try 59.2 - less than HALF of what the one game was.

For a team, or a player, to be considered as a threat or a substantial asset - it or they have to play CONSISTENTLY. Jake has been consistently BAD until this one game - now you want to reannoint him. No thanks.

RE: Delhomme taken to the hospital

I don't think anyone here is looking to annoint him anything, (question: what was he annointed to before, aside from starting QB, which he's not not been. What does the "re" refer to, in reannoint?) much less "Stellar QB".

But Jake DID play well on Sunday (as did the rest of the team) and the Panthers beat a team they shouldn't have. Get over it.

The Panthers still need a new QB (as much as I've appreciated Jake: it's true), but there's no need to rag the guy because he did well. Sorry it makes you unhappy...

Re: Delhomme taken to the hospital

I don't think anyone is trying to reannoint him, but for what he was asked to do, he actually did do it pretty well.  ESPECIALLY in comparison to the games before.  Before the injury he was what, 7/9 for 90?  I know that's not FedEx Air Player of the Week or anything, but it's managing the game.  Some of his throws WERE still considerably off and we were lucky weren't picked off (especially that deflection that sent the ball up in the air in the first quarter, I held my breath on that one!) but if Jake plays like that for the rest of the year, I'll be satisfied.  Not satisfied enough to be willing to give him a shot next year...but I won't spit on the name of Jake Delhomme for the rest of my life.
