4th and 7

4th and 7

What was up with going for it on a 4th and 7 at the end of the game?

Was Rivera trying to send a message to the fans? Was he just trying to set it up so that, in the future, he can say that he has gone for it on a fourth down? Was he trying to say "I told you so" about last week?

Re: 4th and 7

It really comes down to just a few possibilities.  To me he either didn't want to run the score up with a field goal.  After all we had kicked a long one earlier with plenty of distance, or he just went for it just to go for it.   IMO when you start off 0-2 you're going to need every point you can get in case things come down to tie breakers, however, unlikely.

They did not want to rub it in........

If that's the case I'm SO GLAD, that so many teams have considered our feelings in such a personal way.  Especially the New York Football Giants.

We where up by 38 at the time with 4 minutes to go.  No way they catch us at that point.  He clearly wasn't trying to pick up the first with a draw play.  SO he didn't want to run up the score.

Typical. He was being a soft coach again. Let's not run up the score, because that's not classy, right?

Yeah, I'm sure the next team we face will really care about that. They'll sense a weakness, which he clearly has, because he's soft. This win today does nothing IMO to justify keeping him. He still needs to go.

It wasn't until Cam stepped up and ran for a few first downs that this team finally seemed to get something going on offense.

That late in the game where there's no possible way for them to come back- it's the right thing to do.

I'd rather a coach who wants to run it up on everyone and shove things down people's throats. I don't want a coach who wants to do the right thing if it means not giving it your all every time out there.

Points do factor into tie-breaking for playoff contention.  Its like insurance, it seems like a silly idea until you need it.  I appreciate classy, but I would rather be kinda classy and employed.

I guess I still value sportsmanship.

I don't buy that Rivera was trying to be classy and not run up the score because he could have easily just punted. I think that it had something to do with all the grief he got for last week's 4th and 1 call.

We could've kicked a field goal there, but that would've been disrespectful and that's not this org's MO.... I was glad they ran a simple draw and turned the ball over....

So do I when I'm personally involved in the game being played. But when it comes to the teams I root for, I want no mercy shown. I just want lots and lots of big blowout wins and Super Bowl Championships. Get me those and I'm happy. If you have to step on some toes and hurt some feelings while doing it, so be it.

As long as no rules are being broken and no players are kicking guys in the crotch, I see nothing wrong with pounding it home every game.
