Why our RB's must be better than they are!

Why our RB's must be better than they are!

I have just read on the 3rd site today, that our RB's are NOT top quality for any 2013 due to "go to" natures and injury histories. Two see Tolbert as our possible "Ace" in any game, and he just might be, but it is the comments on all three about Williams and Stewart NOT being able to stay here because of contractual excesses come cap configuration. I so get that, but will they both, or individually, be able to command high bucks without some show of powah?

I saw Peppers pull it off, and they might too, but seriously, if they do not make some kind of mark on the team, and their own personal %'s it's going to be anyone's guess who goes. Your thoughts.

I don't think either need to overacheive to have very good years. Last year was more about the scheme and OL than it was the RB's.

Keep in mind that Skip is back as RB coach. He seems to have brought the best out of both of them.

We still have the best RB core in the game by a wide margin IMO. Tolbert is a good RB by himself and Stewart and Williams are top 10 talents. I don't buy that Williams has declined that much at all. He doesn't have that much wear and tear in the NFL and he looked as quick as he ever had been against NO's.  Barner was a steal too.

I'll put it this way. I think Williams and Stewart by themselves are at least better than Matt Forte and that guy is always glorified at as a top 10 RB. Both our guys have more talent than him.

Running backs are a dime a dozen.

In 2005 we had:

Stephen Davis - IR
Deshaun Foster - IR
Eric Shelton - IR

and our 4TH option, Nick Going came in an looked good until he was injured.

I agree that it would be nice to have our backs step up and be ELITE but its not a necessity.  What is a necessity is that our offensive line be good.  If they are not we are in BIG trouble.

The barner pick imo was one of the best picks in the draft considering where we got him.  When you look at the RB's top to bottom its a group that is simply waiting for a good offensive line in order to turn out Pro Bowl Caliber performances.  We probably won't see Stewart at 100% until mid season, but I think that Barner is going to step up and fill the void nicely.

Well said. I still think that losing either might not be so bad, anyway. I saw both step up big time when the other went down in injury, and we've been lucky not to have had too many times when both were out more than a game or two, if at all. I think JOAT's point is quite on target as well. It has been the fact that our OL scheme has left little quick patterns for 4-6 yards. We either got a huge gain or lose a couple.

I don't have top 10 RB because of our OL & scheme but they are paid like they are top 10 so in effect they are both over paid & for a FB Tolbert is overpaid so I'll say if your paid like it produce like it or get another cheaper guy who can do the same thing

Tolbert is overpaid?

Seriously disagree. How versitile is he? How many TD's did he get last season?

Tolbert started off very shaky last year as the "replacement" to Shockey's production, and generally pissed me off.  However, he finished very strong and proved his worth.  If he keeps up the pace he finished with I think he's worth every penny.

It's our trademark k. I seem to wonder how this team has trouble getting  some ROI! That is why I am optimistic for 2013...no more second chances for a lot of players, and we'll find out what we really have in about two months.
