Finally! I'm not a fan of his due to his false starts, but I have to give him credit to
free up more money. Dave G has something up his sleeve.

Good work.  Gettlemen and Gross both got the job done on this one.  I wish it would have happened about 10 days ago so we could have grabbed someone like Michael Huff, but nonetheless, this is great news.  Class and loyalty shown on both sides.

Onward and upward.

And there's no doubt he's taking a lot less money than he would've got on another team, assuming he was eventually cut. Class act Jordan Gross. You have your false start issues, but where else would we find a tackle of his caliber for $1M ? biggrin And to take a paycut next year too. I'm getting excited! excited

He took a massive pay cut.

Good for Jordan.

Yeah he's the man. Because of this, I don't see us drafting a LT with our first pick.. I think that would be a slap in the face.

Good stuff, we needed to get this done. He also got a 3 year extension but he can void it in 2014. Very interesting contract, lots of options for player and team. Now we can officially sign Edwards, we were only under the cap by $787,500 without him.

The full story: http://blogs.charlotte.com/pan...-cap-space.html

The former first round pick entering his 11th season took a pay cut this offseason to help Carolina with its salary cap situation while picking up a contract extension through 2017.

According to an Associated Press report, Gross' base salary of $8.7 million for 2013 will be cut to $1 million, and his $6.7 million base salary in 2014 will be cut to $1 million.

Though his base salary goes to $1 million for 2013, Gross will still receive a salary of $5.5 million by virtue of a $4.5 million signing bonus on his extension, according to ESPN.com.

Gross will make $1 million in base salary from 2014-2017 and will receive a roster bonus of $2 million in 2014, according to ESPN.com.

The Panthers were between $1 to $2 million under the cap before Gross took his cut. The move takes Gross' cap figure for 2013 from $11.7 million to $4 million and gives the Panthers nearly $7 million more in cap room.

“I’ve given 10 years to the Panthers and the Panthers have given 10 years to me. And nobody wants this organization to win more than I do,” Gross told the Observer earlier in March. “I’d love to be a part of the equation for success in 2013. This is just something that has to get worked out.

This is great news but I am hearing conflicting reports on how much cap space this frees up. Charlotte is saying 7mill this year and espn is saying 3.3 mill. Can anyone straighten this out

I trust the local sources more than I do ESPN.

I understand it freed up 7 mil.

I like the reduced cap number, but I don't like the contract voiding after the season. This also appears to push more "dead" money into the future.

I think JG's numbers were absolutely necessary for two things. It shows that this team is his career team, and it showed me that his constantly being called to "rep" the team on post game reports and numerous PA events...he IS the Panthers spirit...and he had gotten his FS & holding calls down considerably.
