I think that is the only way we will sign him....  New GM wants him back but 32 yr old DT does not have tons of leverage.  Good plan for both sides.  I think this lets us go LT in First and DT/CB in second.

I like the idea of sprinkling a few vets around to lead if they can still play.Experience goes a long way.

Very true but only if like Edwards, they sign for very nearly the minimum. Otherwise we could do better.

Here's what I don't get.  Gettleman has talked and talked about wanting Dwan back but here's the rub.  Dwan wants a 2 year deal and, according to the paper, Gettleman is only offering him a one year deal but offering Munnerlyn a 3 year deal.  Dwan's been a top DT for us so why not a 2 year deal?  It makes no sense and between no extension for Hardy (a top pass rusher) and not wanting to sign Dwan (a top DT) for 2 years, and releasing James Anderson who has been so productive for us, I'm starting to have reservations about Gettleman's decision making.   I know we're cap strapped thanks to Hurney, but we did manage to get under the cap.  And why hasn't Charles Johnson been asked to restructure?

there's your answer. even after meaningful cuts, we're hardly under the cap. And for reasons I do not know, it would not be advantageous to restructure Johnson. I think it's because his cap number is surprisingly low (a lot of it was given in the signing bonus)
