Panthers renegotiated Jonathan Stewart’s contract

Stewart's fully guaranteed $1 million 2013 base salary was lowered to $715,000, while he received a $2.5 million "signing bonus." That money was culled from future bonuses in Stewart's six-year, $37.811 million deal. His $1.5 million 2014 base salary is also now fully guaranteed. It's further proof DeAngelo Williams will likely be a post-June 1 cut. Feb 13 - 7:03 PM

Ugh, Williams was the better RB last year. I love Stewart but I'd rather keep Williams.

Or it could be a sign that GM is looking for players to work with him on producing cap room... If the potential starting RB is doing, it sets a tone. He

Williams is scheduled to earn $5 million in non-guaranteed cash compensation in 2013 and figures to be released with a "post-June 1" designation, which would allow the Panthers to split the $9.6 million in remaining signing bonus proration over the next two league years ($3.2 million in 2013, $6.4 million in 2014) and free up $5 million cap space this season.

I think Williams showed he could not adjust to the offensive line and surely was not getting the numbers of earlier seasons. He is a player we'll learn to miss. Stewart was easier than I thought. Good news.

I told you guys Williams wasn't cutting it. No way can you think he was better than Stewart in their time. Stew wasn't healthy from pre-season on and he still looked better in his 8 or 9 games. Remember, Stew rolled that ankle in pre-season.

Stewart is the better all around RB and he's younger.

I'd still like to keep both, but I'm not sure how realistic that is.

Although I really like Williams, I see us going a different direction.  Age and $ alone are the driving factors.

In addition, look at Gettleman's history with RB's in NY - He puts $ into ONE back, then fills the roster with lower priced guys that are hungery for a chance: DJ Ware, Derrick Ward, Reuben Droughns, Ryan Torain, Andre Brown...

When they want $, they go - Ward, Jacobs, etc..

Do we still have Tauron Poole (sp?)?  I actually like the thought of Stewart, Tolbert and Poole.

The best of two worlds JOAT! I am not convinced by anyone, we need to get rid of DW...he is like Foster was...damn good, but solidly in the Panther camp. I still feel a three pronged (triad) attack is solidly our best hope for a post seasonal success.
