I actually like this move. Cam already knows Shula. Keep the continuity going.

Re: Shula gets Panthers' OC job; Proehl, Rodgers promoted
I do too, i know alot of people will hate it but he is gonna run almost the same O. Also our old RB coach is in Charlotte for a interview (Jim Skipper). Our RB's were the best under Skip.
I BELIEVE IN JR AND COACH RIVERA, I AM VERY EXCITED ABOUT WHAT'S IN STORE FOR THE CAROLINA PANTHERS FRANCHISE! CAROLINA PANTHER PSL OWNER!!!!!!!

RE: Shula gets Panthers' OC job; Proehl, Rodgers promoted
Good hire... People moan and complain about Shula's stint in Tampa as a reason we shouldn't have promoted him, but that was with Trent Dilfer at QB with limited weapons.
With a solid draft and free agency we should fill most of our holes. I think keeping things constant is big for this offense, and as long as Shula promotes a balanced attack then I'm happy.

RE: Shula gets Panthers' OC job; Proehl, Rodgers promoted
I wasn't really thrilled when I saw the candidates so it's not really surprising we go with what we already had. I haven't seen anything on Shula to suggest he will make a good OC or even a decent one. Hopefully he can step it up but I haven't seen anything to indicate this. Knowing Cam is nice but it doesn't equate to solid play-calling.
Skipper would be a nice pickup for us, great RBs coach.

Re: Shula gets Panthers' OC job; Proehl, Rodgers promoted
I wanted Jackson, but if Shula will run a similar offense, (without the bone-headed plays) then he will be alright. Love Ricky Prohl getting promoted. Also, the Special Teams improved under Rodgers. But....
I WANT SKIP BACK as RB coach.

MARK this Down This is the DAY Winning in a Panther Uniform Died 1 yr from NOW JR Fires everyone & Cam Newton Is called a bust kepickle, to quote you from another thread where you admonished me for my belief that Rivera needs to be replaced: "well if you don't like it go find another team to cheer for there are 31 other teams if you need help finding a new team ask someone well help you". Actually, I believe that you have a right to your opinion and a right to express your opinion. Like you, I am tired of ALMOST. I believe that the Panthers have talent, but I do not think that JR did the best thing by keeping Rivera and I do not think that Rivera did the best thing by promoting Shula. We will see!

Congrads to both Proehl and Rodgers. Both have earned it.

the only reason I agree with Shula is his experience working with Cam for 2 seasons.

I like the move... I'd rather have someone who's been with the team and seen what we do on a day to day basis, so he already knows what to work on than a completely new guy. Especially when it comes to Cam

I think kepickle's basic argument rings true with most of us..."almost" is getting to be a very unwanted cliché around this team. we almost won a ton o' games early last season, like we almost won a SB, like we almost got another Drew Brees or Peyton Manning. I saw some very weak QB'ing sprinkled with some unreal runs and dead on passes. I still am not sure what QB we'll see in 2013. So, starting off with 80% (+ or -) of the same coaching staff makes me skeptical. I, like others was not so sure Rivera should be kept, but saw the rationale in 3rd litmus for him. There will likely be a lot of happy people if JR's methods are right, but a ton o' disgruntled fans if he's not right.

Re: Shula gets Panthers' OC job; Proehl, Rodgers promoted
There is a possibility that we are missing out on some opportunities here.
1. If you feel you have an offensive coordinator caliber coach coaching your QB's why not hire a quality Offensive coordinator and have the best of both worlds?
Shula + ???? at QB coach + Remaining coaching staff
vs.
Hue Jackson (head coaching exp.) + Shula (OC caliber) + Remaining coaching staff
2. Chud ran the entire offense and Rivera was hands off. However, with Shula I have to believe that the vacation is over. I'm afraid of what extra responsibility will do to Rivera considering the way he and the team handled pressure last year.

IMO fans aren't a collection of unquestionable yes men. It feels like we are at the point where we will celebrate ANYTHING. Shula isn't a "good hire" until we start putting points up on the board. Keeping Rivera isn't a good idea until he shows he can win a game that matters. One single game, which imo he hasn't done yet.

Re: Shula gets Panthers' OC job; Proehl, Rodgers promoted
I am appreciating what I am reading here, on both sides, because,or in spite of, our run of optimistic seasons being shot down, we are becoming realists about losing with grace. Nothing seems to bother us the way it did 4-5 years ago. We surely know what Realguyjeff says is rock on...until we get wins consistently, we won't know what all these decisions will result in.
I loved Proehl and know how he clicked with team members, so his continued tenure is a good thing IMHO.
