Breaking: GETTLEMAN GM

http://www.panthers.com/news/a...d8-9c40dc02131e

Thoughts? Reaction? Is the general consensus that this is a good hire? Will we see major change or just tweaking?

Falcons fan: What worries me? That one day Cam will grow up and become a leader of men, focus on others instead of himself, and show courage.

I love the hire, go back and look at the success he's had everywhere he's been.

Just tweaking right now, he'll have to jump on the cap situation to anything more. I'm sure that's probably his biggest priority at this point.

Re: Breaking: GETTLEMAN GM

I have no problem at all with Gettleman.  Not much experience as a GM, but it looks like he knows his business regarding scouting college prospects which has been our achilles heel for a while now.  I don't know much about him at all, just love the fact that he has been involved with scouting primarily....the Giants are nearly stockpiled with good to above average talent at most positions.

I guess so far the only downside is that he's 61.  If he really works out to be a good GM, how long will he be around before he decides to hang it up.

I read somewhere that if he got it, that the guy we have doing it (I'm have a brain fart right now) could be trained by him to step in when he retired.

From what I have read, Gettleman is a good choice. But will the Panthers (JR) give him a free hand to do what he thinks needs to be done? I am not so sure since he has already been told who the HC is and will be.

Brandon Beane, CANA...and he is young enough to work with Gettleman, but he is also smart enough to go out on his own. Someone suggested this earlier and I regret that I disdained that. In the end, he may wish to make the release from GM (Interim) to find a new team. I certainly hope not, he was our training and personnel guy and the team really thinks a lot of him, including JR & GM.

Well Ross was My Pick but Gettleman was my 2nd so I'm happy & yea I think Beane isn't going anywhere unless he wants to

That is what I thought. A lot of people said that Hurney was a "yes" man and did what JR told him directly or indirectly to do. I thought that they were wrong. But now, looking back, I am not so sure.

IMO, this is as big as landing Cam as QB.

RE: Breaking: GETTLEMAN GM

Really? Wow. So does this change how we feel about draft strategy? Will we see more draft day trades, or less?

Do we expect to see players released for salary cap purposes so a re-tooling can happen, or will there be some loyalty to players?

I think this will change the mindset of many draftees, though it is not much their decision, and even a couple of FA's and guys who need to be re-structured.

RE: Breaking: GETTLEMAN GM

I wonder if he's going to shake up the entire scouting department - bring in his own peeps... Which, he should, imo...

Edit: I do like having Ken Dorsey as a scout though...  He could completely suck at it, idk.. haha noidea

I am guessing Accorsi probably helped out in giving the owner or whoever was conducting the search his name from our.organization.
