Ron Rivera enters 2013 on hot seat

Ron Rivera enters 2013 on hot seat

The Panthers aren’t going to be players in free agency. Their cap situation means the only way they can add any talent to the roster will be through the draft.

I can see Rivera turning things around and getting the Panthers to the playoffs, which would be the only way he’ll keep his job for 2014. But it’s not automatic.

Rivera probably will have to tweak his coaching staff a little bit. I’ve heard the chemistry on the offensive coaching staff wasn’t great. Rivera also is going to have to change his ways a little bit, perhaps becoming a bit more aggressive, and it wouldn’t hurt him in the eyes of the fans to become just a bit more animated on the sideline.

Thanks for stating the obvious ESPN!

I'm not ruling out FA, but I don't we go for any big names.

i've heard others on twitter say this & now Pat Yasinskas seem to think we'll change some of our coaching staff i don't think it will be cords but i wonder who I'd like to have Notv Turner as a OC but we do need a proven QB coach

I could see a 9-7 season and no playoff for Rivera and he still keeps his job. That is how the Panthers upper management does it...Mediocre....as I have stated on previous posts if we kept Rivera we had to hire a GM from outside the organization as Panther fans are tired of yes men. I don't want to sound down on the team but I with everyone else on here are tired of being jerked around and just want to see a complete game and season. Kill it in the draft this year and hope Rivera can learn from his first two seasons.

So another 1-5 start and you don't think he's fired midstream ??
Keep in mind he may not be GMs guy.

Folks, this is the stuff boffo movies are made of...a rag tag team of bruised veterans and a group of hot to trot sweaty young rookies and bench warmers pull together to make a go at the prized SB! Underdogs, wanabees and ex cons with a grudge ( I made up the ex-cons thingy) to completely overwhelm the fans and public with guts and sweat. After "Lincoln", Spielberg might buy it!

On the other hand, that role is always picked for the Raiders.

Rivera surely has been asked, and now has told, to take no prisoners for 2013. I believe that Cam showed he's getting the part about leadership both in the pocket and in the brain/mindset. While teams are figuring out how to do everything like 2 starting QB's, to making losing season coaches prove they still have it, we are already loaded with proven winners and likely scabs who will be picked off. There is no wonder if's or getting the system right for any of these guys, and we'll know soon enough whether this was the right thing to do. I feel pumped.

If we're eliminated for the playoffs before week 17 then I'd have no problem showing him the door then.

I sure hope that next year works out better for the Panthers than this year did for the Bears and Lovie Smith.

Hell, JOAT, you being nice to the guy...I'd not give him that long. Seriously, I have to believe if all our hype is truth...it's gonna be sweet, if we were wrong everyone's been fooled.

I think Rivera should receive another year for how the team finished. But he will be on a short leash. I think it could be an Andy Reid situation where it's no playoffs = no job. Any coach that sticks around through a GM change is automatically on the hot seat.
