Re: PANTHERS POTENTIAL COACHING CANDIDATES

Chip Kelly would probably be my pick, but I am on record saying that Rivera likely stays, forgoing a slaughter today! I think I was wrong in over-expecting too much season one for Rivera, and then thinking it could all change in season 2. Like Cam's obvious "falls" in the past two years, I feel more confident about his maturity than I did before, even based on that rather weak moment last week.

I would expect that Rivera is going to have to settle for a not-so-good contract for season 3, but if he can turn stuff around wit the new GM, we all are gonna benefit.

BTW, one of the better articles from the ol' CO kepickle, thanks.

Re: PANTHERS POTENTIAL COACHING CANDIDATES

I have two lines of thinking when it comes to our head coaching situation:

1) I think we need a new coach because I credit too many of the losses to things the coaching staff could've corrected. At no point this year did the evidence prove we weren't talented enough. We've had many close games, and I believe that's when the better coaches shine. We've beaten the less talented teams this year. The idea of a coaching staff for me is you have to have faith that they can get the job done, and the challenge is getting the players to where you are. I don't feel confident if we're questioning where the coaching staff is, particularly when it has its franchise QB already.

2) I'm never for getting rid of a coach without knowing there is a better one out there, and of what sacrifice to the team. We have established some good things, particularly defensively. Do we lose those with a new coach? I think the process should take a little while after we hire the GM. I'm not impressed with wins over bad teams, because we're trying to build a championship contender. I've never thought seriously about Kelly and if it would work, but my goodness don't we have alot of pieces that he would like. I'm all for leaving it up to the new GM.

I once had Fire Rivera in my Sig

but I think we need to give him a 3rd year, and if we start losing close games, and making the same mistakes, fire him early to mid-season

RE: PANTHERS POTENTIAL COACHING CANDIDATES

Rivera has had a solid learning curve since Hurney left. He is also brings the most to the table when looking at the cap situation and knowing we have to try and tweak more than a few deals with players this off season. I am not very excited about any of the coaches mentioned in the article. Kelly is a waste until he proves he can run an offense that won't look like Chud's earlier offense this season. Anyone who calls options more than twice a game is not the answer in the NFL. Fewell had a down year but has some solid experience, still looks like a reach. McCoy and Roman are sitting in solid spots but I am not sold on either this year, would love to see how another year affects their resumes.

Keep Rivera if he can show up this last game and fire Chud. Chud is not getting the most out of the offense and just when he looks to be doing a solid job he calls some BS plays and I am tired of seeing it. Where is the double TE sets? Why doesn't he realize that play action worked a hell of a lot better last year out of the I sets and not in singleback sets where the whole defense can see the ball not go to the RB? The option is a trick play in the NFL, which means it will never be a bread and butter play for any team with any real hope of winning a championship. I want an OC that will force Cam to develop as a QB, not an overqualified Tebow wasting offensive opportunities on BS plays.

I think Rivera wins a playoff game with the Panthers before Mike Smith does with the Falcons.

Past season we won 4 of our last 6 which made everyone.excited about this year what's to say they wont start off.slow again.next year...I'm tired of our players getting motivated only late in the season when their jobs are on the line...bring in Kelly and let Rivera go

@josephperson
I'm told that the Panthers will not be making any quick decisions on Rivera's future. nothing Monday from what I've been told.

I am not sold on Chip Kelly and I do not think he would leave Oregon in the first place. Rivera will get another year, as he should.

I have mixed emotions on Rivera. I like the guy and if he gets another year then so be it. I do, however, have a hard time getting over the fact that this should have been at least a solid playoff team that played well only at the end of the year with the season (playoffs) over with.

Re: PANTHERS POTENTIAL COACHING CANDIDATES

Happy New Year to all my fellow Panthers fans. I hope you all had a happy holidays. Here is my choice for our new HC. My choice is Tom Clements OC Green Bay Packers. He was the QB Coach there before taking that position this year. His development of Aaron Rogers speaks for itself as to how well he can develop QBs. I think we need a offensive minded HC right now. The development of Cam is the #1 priority right now and he has developed one of the best. All we need is a great DC to run the defense. My example of that is Houston. Getting our Offense on track is the key to us being contenders for years to come.

Heres something I found on Tom Clements.

IF we are planning to go & hire another cord. type who has never been a HC anywhere else than I'd say keep the HC we got & replace the OC & THE DC
