Steve Smith

Steve Smith

For all you members of the "get rid of Steve Smith" club did you notice that when Cam was tackled and that guy was standing over him.... who was the first one there looking out for Cam. Also when Cam got that penalty for brushing against the ref... who was the one with his arm around that same ref a couple plays later making sure he wasn't holding a grudge.... Steve Smith. He is the heart and soul of the Carolina Panthers

eek I must be missing something....I have not seen many if any "get rid of Smith" posters, but you are right, he is the core of our team! He also still "snake bites" rookie and vet secondary alike.

Re: Steve Smith

There is someone here that posted get rid of Smith, Dwill and Gamble and Beason.

I hate to see DWill and Beason leave, but I can understand that line of thought... Dwill hasn't been used much and he has a hugh contract. Beason has been replaced at MLB and has missed 2 seasons.

Re: Steve Smith

I understand get rid of Dwill but not Beason or Smitty, Beason just has too much talent to give to another team. And then he stays healthy one season and we wish we had him back to play outside, he's so athletic if he stays healthy and we use him right to rush the passer, play the pass gracefully and tackle like he's pissed off. We could have a great outside linebacker on our hands, even though he normally plays middle I think Luke has earned his spot in the center of our Defense. It would be stupid to take him away from Mike now after he is only like 11 total tackles away from the NFL all time record. Smitty is just the heart and soul of the Carolina Panthers, no other way to say it. I've watched this guy for years, and I have yet to see someone get into his grill and rattle his cage a little bit. This guy has won every single scruff I've ever seen him get into, and he does let his emotions get to him sometimes but that is how I like to watch players play. He's fearless and just when you think oh jeez he just got laid the FK out, like that play when Mark Barron layed Smitty out on the sidelines helment to helment a vicious nasty hit. He gets right back up and talks smack, he's just tough as hell and we'd be stupid to get rid of him now. He needs to retire a Panther but fall back into that Hines Ward kind of role, tough in your face good blocker physical and pound for pound the toughest WR in the NFL. A third down man, we need to go after a young buck who's like 6'4 and can get the football in almost every situation to pair with Smith who should be the number 2. D will on the other hand, I wouldn't mind getting rid of. I don't know what his problem is or what the problem is, but we have 2 really good physical backs in Stewart and Tolbert. Only problem with Stewart is he's never been healthy.

I said something clos ebut never said Smith  but you have taken it wrong I said that as a Cap Management issue just because those are the guys who make so much But understand fact is we are so over cap we'll likely have to cut some Very good players just to barely get under cap

It wasn't you. It was a new guy. Wanted to basically clean house. He wanted to get rid of all the coaches, Smith, Dwill, LaFell, Beason and Davis. I don't remember his name or what thread I saw it in. But several made comments about it.

I can understand some players leaving due to contracts, but this guy wanted to start over.

A for starters Smith want go anywhere until Smith is ready to go.  Him and Jerry are tight as two peas in a pod.  And Smith has already said " He will retire a Panther"excited

I can understand that. But I think the team is really close to turning things around. I hate the thought of starting from scratch.

Have you not learned anything from the previous bad seasons that we have had?  We always do this!  We play horrible the first half of the season and we pull off a 4-5 game win streak towards the end of the season leaving fans with a little optimism...Man, see Dwayne Jarrett and Matt Moore....Jeezus

This team needs to make changes...point blank...People need to accept the fact that the games we are winning are completely irrelevant and meaningless.  At the end of the day the fact still remains, this season is a wash simply beause our coaches DO NOT know how to win in the 4th quater.  Fortunately in the last 3 games we havent had to win the game on a last drive.  Praise god.

Re: Steve Smith

Look at the close games we were in this season. Yes we managed to blow the lead in the 4th quarter but not all of it was on the coaches. Sometimes the players screwed up and let things happen that the coaches had no control over.

Becoming a head coach for the first time takes time to grow into. Rivera didn't have an offseason to implement his plan. It takes time to get the coaches to adept to your ideas and then you have to get the players and get them to do what your overall plan is.
I didn't like McDermontt at the first of the season, but he seems to have gotten the defense to get on the same page is has them playing well. Chud did good last year, then had the bright idea to change it, it didn't work, so he seems to have went back to what worked last year.

I am happy with the coaches we have, hope they come back.
