Suppose this scenario plays out...

Suppose this scenario plays out...

...because it very well could.

Carolina rolls over a hapless Oakland Raiders team @ home. Then goes on the road and proves their early season victory over the Saints wasn't a fluke. The team finishes the season 7-9, having won five of it's last six games. Not only that, but the team stays on it's current course and finishes the season with these rankings...
15th in Passing Yards
9th in Rushing Yards
10th in Pass Defense
17th in Rushing Defense

Each of the above catergories have been improving over the last half of the season.

Let's suppose the above scenario plays out... Don't you have to bring all of the coaching staff back?... except maybe special teams coach?
Several weeks ago, I was ready to call for new head coach, so even saying this is hard. However, if the above scenario plays out... I say you keep the staff, draft heavy on defensive and offensive lines and seek out proven commodities at Wide Receiver and Safety/Cornerback. If this team were to improve just a little in each of the above catergories, making it's biggest strides on the defensive side of the ball... this team could be ready for a break through season.

I now leave it in your hands to rip me a new one... lol

NO! These games, although for pride, are completely meaningless. How many times during the 2ks have we had a bad year to only with 6 outta the last 7 at the end of the season? Its much easier to play when you have nothing to play for. Fact is, we still need to make some changes to this coaching staff. Point blank.

Ok.

I want a new QB and ST coach.

How's that?

This. We've been down this same road so many times.
We play Matt Moore final 8 games against playoff teams vs final 5 we
may have known he wasn't a franchise Qb. Same thing now we
Aren't playing meaningful games other than falcons.

Bigger question-- WHY did it take this long??

So anothert mediocre season filled with a few wins in MEANINGLESS games is grounds to stay the course? This sounds like a recipe for bounding between mediocrity and embarrassingly poor play......yes the last two years have this in common...why not another year.......... Color me completely unimpressed!

the Oakland Raiders are constantly changing coaches and that is the main reason why they have had horrible seasons... lack of consistency. I don't want that, that's why I am willing to give Rivera another season.  I didn't think it would be a quick turnaround, so I'm willing to wait

More concerned about who our GM is.

You're right, it all comes down to what the new GM wants, and if Jerry lets him decide if he wants to keep Rivera or not

No! Rivera has not shown that he knows how to win games or that he knows how to put the team into position to win close games. Remember, in the second half of the season last year, the team was "trending up". How did that work for us this year? It didn't.

The Panthers need a new head coach who knows how to win. Don't waste a third year hoping that it will be different than the first two, especially when the first two are almost identical.

Re: Suppose this scenario plays out...

I love Beason, and Rivera tried to build the defense around him. It was only after the injuries to Beason putting him on IR and moving Kuelchy to the middle that the defense took off.

Also it was when Chud redone the offense similar to last years that the offense took off.
Seems to me that Rivera is making the Panthers a better team as time goes by.

RE: Suppose this scenario plays out...

It was more than just Kuechly, but McD hasn't been the problem this year.

Chud has been, but we were a top 10 O last year and are getting back on track now. Despite the horrific timing and beginning of the season I think he deserves a third year.

Apparently, that is what most folks want. Repeating the first year in the second year isn't enough. They want to repeat it a third year.

eek "meaningless" to whom? While I do know, after 60+ years of watching football, any team with "nothing to lose" can sometimes play with a certain abandon, I also know you gotta play that 14-1 game just as hard as if it meant you are a WC spot...which I have also seen!

I have watched almost all of the Browns games this season, and I'd put money on it right now... If the Browns stick with Pat Shurmer, they will play above .500 football next year. I don't have quite that kind of confidence with Rivera and Co., but if this team finishes 7-9 and closes strong, we would be dumb as hell to fire Rivera.
That said, if we lose out or whimper our way to a split of the last two games... It's time to find a new coach.
