Luke Kuechly
We all knew Luke Kuechly could play but its time this guy at least got his own thread (again). Lets have a round of applause for the TOP TACKLER IN THE NFL Luke Kuechly. We had needs this past draft but there isn't one Defensive Tackle or Corner who's already top 5 in their position.

RE: Luke Kuechly
Given the injuries to Beason and TD it was a need, especially now that we've seen how dinged up Beason was this season. I also think it's fair to assume no one thought TD would last this long, I didn't.
Luke was also BPA.

RE: Luke Kuechly
I have a better nugget for you. He's on pace to break the record for most tackles in a season by anyone. He's on pace for 197 tackles. The All-Time Record (since they started getting recorded) is 195. All he needs to break that record is 12 tackles per game the next 3 games

Luke was also BPA. I certainly didn't. What's even more astonishing is that this isn't a guy who is limping on and off the field in sub packages. He is playing at a VERY high level.

I will fully admit that I did not want us to draft him. I wanted Stephen Gilmore, but I am happy to eat crow about Luuuuuuuke. TD has done a great job in his return. (Thought I should add that!)

I was right along side you. I did think he'd be a very good player, but i was not happy we took him. I thought there positions we needed much more than a LB... After all, that was our 'strongest' on the team. This is the best tasting crow I ever ate, though.

RE: Luke Kuechly
2 Questions for you guys:
1) IYO, does Kuechly get Rookie DPOY award?
I think he's the best rookie defender out there.
2) Does Beason get the Mike (ML) position back next year?
IMO, Kuechly has taken over the Mike position and Beason will have to learn one of the other LB positions or get traded. Luke is just too good to move.

I'm biased, but he'd have my vote. Not too often do rookies break such long standing records. 2.) As much respect as I have for John Fox, he always said a player doesn't look his job because of an injury. I think if the 'backup' performs like this, it's a no-brainer. You keep Kuechly in.

RE: Luke Kuechly
1. DROY hands down- thanks Marty!
2. Mike spot is Luke's, I could see either Anderson or Beason being traded/released based on cap ramifications.

I am impressed about TDs return.... But why would you trade away one of these guys. Does anyone really think we will have TD and Beason healthy for two years straight?? I can see Beason and TD being talked to by new GM about resturcturing. Anderson is the only solid LB we have had for the last 4 years. He is not a superstar, but he is on the field!!! He is also making plays. Anyone remeber Morgan and Spoon??? TD is a luxury LBs. I do not see another team taking a chance on him the way we have. He should stay on as our #1 Back up and be paid a good salary but not break the bank. We all know Murphy.... as soon as we get rid of one of our 4 LBs, 1 or 2 will go down.....

But I was OK with getting him, considering the injuries to Beason and Davis. I expected him to take over for Davis due to his injury, not so much Beason.

RE: Luke Kuechly
Only one thing I have seen about him to criticize. He isn't that great of a cover guy. But his other intangibles outshine that. Great solid player for a long time to come.

Re: Luke Kuechly
Kuechly is EXACTLY why we have to take Star or Hankins in the draft. The video on us defensively will be all about Johnson, Hardy, and Kuechly. You throw one of those big guys in the middle, and any adjustment will be that much harder to execute.
Just hope we're still high enough to get one.

Re: Luke Kuechly
I am a huge Beason fan. I was worried about the injuries to him and Davis so I wasn't upset about getting Kuechly in the draft. I agree that Kuechly is our future MLBer for the future. I can't see Beason satisfied being a backup nor can we afford to keep his salary. IF he can come back from his injuries, someone will be getting a good LBer, since I think he is done in Carolina.

RE: Luke Kuechly
Luke was lauded for his coverage ability out of BC but he bites too hard to play action and gets burnt in coverage as a result. That could be a schematic thing more than a Luke thing.
Here's what's most impressive, he is not only now leading the league in tackles, but he's doing so while taking the least number of snaps.

Re: Luke Kuechly
Well, I don't think we can afford to cut him, so we have to trade him. He has a big contract, but we may be able to find a LB needy team that would deal with us. When healthy he's worth every penny. Re: Luke Kuechly
Is that 192 total tackles for the record? or solo?
