For some reason, AFC players taking shots at Cam Newton

For some reason, AFC players taking shots at Cam Newton

http://profootballtalk.nbcspor...-at-cam-newton/
Pete Prisco of CBSSports.com quotes a number of unnamed players saying Newton acted like a diva last year at the Pro Bowl, turning down an autograph request from one player, and that he apparently “dissed” Ray Lewis at another point.

That apparently triggered a higher level of intensity from AFC defenders, in a game where effort was rumored.

“He was a total —-hole,” one AFC player said. “Who did he think he was? He acted like the big [expletive]. Here he was at his first game and he acted like he was the star. Guys didn’t like that.”

Another player added: “It didn’t matter who it was, he didn’t care about anybody but himself.”

Stop. The. Presses. Professional athlete in his own world. God forbid he had a tattoo.

Act like a douchebag and you get treated like one.

Better learn.

He is heading towards Reggie Bush agent driven ego-it is. He is on more commercials than the entire Panther team has air time on any given Sunday. Hey, it is income driven gratification. He's feeling the "love" now, but he needs to remember they can drop him as quickly as they signed him if his "draw" is lost. Almost every player endorsement contract comes with a clause for lack of attraction or "social dis-favor" ( in cases like Tiger Woods).

Funny you mention that....I was talking to a friend about how many HS players we noticed wearing towels over their heads this season here ion eastern, NC. A fad in the making?

I do think some saw that as "avoiding" the truth, the error or the coach's eyes. I was ok with it as long as he did not add the "head's down" gesture as well.

He's got some growing up to do, I don't think that surprises anyone.

The timing of this bothers me though, Cam's had a very good couple of weeks with regard to his play, so is this just a ploy to piss on his parade?

Whatever. He's a kid still. He isn't obligated to sign autographs for anyone and he isn't obligated to be friendly to anyone. Those are human social qualities, not something he needs to be successful on the field.

As long as he's running for first downs when all hope is lost, and hitting targets in stride for TD's, I don't care if he's a loner with no friends who sells his soul for money hunny.

Just win us some games and get a SB ring on your finger as a Panther, and we're fine here.

Falcons fan: What worries me? That one day Cam will grow up and become a leader of men, focus on others instead of himself, and show courage.

I'm not much for conspiracy theory, but some things make sense and some just don't.

1.  Falcons create a "Dirty Bird" dance. Atlanta, as a franchise was terrible.  However, even the coach is doing the Dirty Bird dance, in his advanced age and its a smash hit.

2.  Jordan wears a towel on his head.  A young NFL kid emulates that and its the worst thing ever.

3.  A kid breaks every rookie record there was as a rookie coming off a lockout and getting his own fans behind him is like pulling teeth.

Again I'm not a conspiracy theorist but I am not blind either.  There is a reason why guys like Joe Louis, and Joe Frazier were adored.  Yet, guys like Muhammad Ali, Jack Johnson, Lebron James were/are hated.

He's not really "struggling" now.

What is your definition of struggling?  The Average NFL career is around 3.5 years so 2 years is a very long time.  Matt Ryan might not be with the Falcons in 2 years noidea.

banghead I use to think this was just a copout but I think it's just because he's black. I really do!!! If he was white they wouldn't be treating him like crap (media). I CAN'T STAND THIS STANDARD HELD BY THE MEDIA ON HOW A BLACK QB CAN NEVER BE AS GOOD AS A WHITE QB!!!!!!! By the way im white.
I BELIEVE IN JR AND COACH RIVERA, I AM VERY EXCITED ABOUT WHAT'S IN STORE FOR THE CAROLINA PANTHERS FRANCHISE!  CAROLINA PANTHER PSL OWNER!!!!!!!

Yeah I know.. I listen to Colin Cowherd and he keeps citing some ex Panther player saying that Cam has lost respect in the locker room, he is a diva and during the Chiefs game did Superman poises on First downs.. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Colin and others criticized Cam for throwing INT's last year yet this year he praises Andrew Luck for tossing INT's as he is learning the system..grrr..

why in the world is race even being discussed in football, this is about if a player can cut it in the NFL or not!!!!,just like when people say Nakimara isnt any good becuase he is white,no! he isnt any good becuase he stinks at the position he plays, and thats all there is to it.

I dont hear the media saying these things about RG3,do you know why, becuase he is not doing them. In his first season,he is already a stronger leader than Cam in his 2nd year. And unlike Cam, RG3 has his team competing for a playoff spot in his rookie season

I hate it when all someone has left in an argument is to pull the race card, its just like politics, anybody who isnt a die hard obama supporter, must be a racist noideaohlord,it couldnt have anything to do with the fact that they just simply dont think he is helping improve things in there country could it ?

You give me hope and sadness at the same time.  Both because you are naive enough to believe that.

RE: For some reason, AFC players taking shots at Cam Newton

It's not about race or conspiracy. It's not about jealousy.

It's a simple fact that the media puts out the stuff that sells. Controversy sells. Drama sells.

Cam is quietly putting together a pretty good season by the numbers.

There are only a few stats that don't seem to be improving.

Let's do a little exercise. We're 75% of the way through this season. His numbers last season:

Yds- 4051
TDs- 21
INTs- 17
QB rating- 84.5
Completion percentage- 60.0
Passes thrown- 517

Ok, now here is the breakdown of 75% of those numbers, save for the completion and QB rating numbers:

Yds- 3000
TDs- 15.75
INTs- 12.75
Passes thrown- 387.75

His numbers through 75% of this season:

Yds- 2933
TDs- 14
INTs- 10
Passes thrown- 355
QB Rating- 85.8
Completion percentage- 57.5

What does that tell us?? Well, for one thing his QB rating is actually INCREASED from last season to now. Who would've thought?? The way the media paints the picture you'd think he is doing terrible and has regressed.

Another thing is his completion % is down, and there's no arguing that it should be better.

TD's and INT's are on pace to be about 2 less than last season each. From one standpoint you'd like to see TD's go up and INT's go down, but hey at least the INT's are not increasing yet. And yards are going to be very close to the same.

Bottom line is Cam is going to put up VERY similar numbers to his "amazing, earth-shattering" rookie season. And yet people are forgetting all about him and writing garbage about him trying to create a "bad character". And the reason again is simple: it sells. People want someone to hate so that they'll feel okay about the guy they love: RG3.

The media is building up RG3 as the best player in the NFL. Period. RG3 the "good guy" who does Subway commercials and has "olympic athlete" speed. And is a true leader on and off the field. Just a great guy. A hero.

Did anyone question Cam's leadership last year? The media built up Cam last year so they can tear him down this year and make him the Villain so that they can create a hero in RG3.

Falcons fan: What worries me? That one day Cam will grow up and become a leader of men, focus on others instead of himself, and show courage.
