Accorsi going young with his G.M. recommendation in Carolina
So far, three names have made their way onto the grapevine: former 49ers G.M. Scot McCloughan, Ravens assistant G.M. Eric DeCosta, and Giants director of college scouting Marc Ross.http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/11/22/ac corsi-could-be-going-young-with-his-g-m-recommenda tion-in-carolina/#comment-2131415

I like Ross he's my Pick but I also think if he gets it he might want to hire guys he's worked with before like Perry Fewell which I wouldn't mind having but his past is he loves the cover two Def. which just might fit us

We don't have the FS for a Cover 2, but we don't really have the FS for....anything.

DeCosta is very intriguing to me but I am not sure how or what it would take to get him out of his contract. Ross also looks like a very solid hire. I think DeCosta has the experience edge but Ross should be a beast in player evaluation. Two really good options for us.

Sounds like another dice throw to me guys...joined by a few more dice throws. I am not interested in youth as I am track record, and I am not as impressed with any of these as you seem to be. Time to read up.
I still hold out for a name we know, a pedigree or portfolio with some serious goals.

I am very pleased with those names! I would zero in on Ross and DeCosta.

Let's say I wish we could get a guy who has shown he's got winning pedigree. What is wrong with that? Do we look for someone cheap who wants to learn the HC position?

Re: Accorsi going young with his G.M. recommendation in Carolina
I hear ya G i wish we would go after someone with a ton of experience and the ability to rebuild a long term winner. Should we go after a coach/gm or get a new GM who knows how to rebuild. Would we be against bringing polian back in or is he washed up now. And dint him and Jerry part on bad terms.

Retreads don't fare well and there aren't any that I think would be a good fit here.
You want to talk about a REAL experiment? Get Chip Kelly or someone who knows zilch about Pro ball.
I think it'll be Ross, that's who I thought they'd go for as soon as Hurney was let go.

Might think that this is wrong BUT Jack Del Rio would be a very good hire, for this position...

He failed miserably in Jax, what makes him a good hire here?
I love JDR, but I don't see what makes him such a great candidate so shortly after getting canned in Jax.

I'll agree with JOAT here & I to like JDR but folks sell him to us but i don't want to here Bilcheck did better his second try because if you watched the special NFL Network had about the Bill B when he was with the Browns you'll find out his problem was the owner sold the coaches out A Football Life: Bill Belichick www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oub02I3WcuQwww.boston.com/sports/touching..._belichick.html

You need a young, dynamic and energetic GM to come in with fresh breeze and blow away the stale old fart that was Hurney.....

RE: Accorsi going young with his G.M. recommendation in Carolina
While he's still not my too choice, JDR wasn't as bad as I thought. Upon digging deeper he's +10 as a HC, better than Fox was when he left. I think there's more talent on this roster than he ever had in Jax, so I'll say that I was too harsh and judged prematurely.
If the brain trust brougt him in I'd be fine with it.

Re: Accorsi going young with his G.M. recommendation in Carolina
I was the first to jump on the Del Rio bandwagon. I guess I sorta followed his career since he left. I loved his agressive defense when he was here and he continued it as a head coach.
I thought the talent level wasn't there in Jacksonville. Hopefully with a new GM he could do well here. I know there are others that should be looked at, but I think Del Rio should be on the list.
The only bad choice that he made as Head Coach was the "chopping wood" fiasco. He had a block of wood and an ax in the dressing room, and his kicker (of all players) cut his leg.
