We have 24 sacks already, 7 less than all last season.

Rivera knows how to get a defense together I'll give him that.

Re: Panthers’ Dwan Edwards is Quietly Having the Best Season
I have been guilty of coming down on the coaches for losses this season. Then I think of the state of the team after Fox left, and consider that Rivera didn't have much of a training camp due to the lock out last year and I realize I need to give our coaches some slack. I knew it wasn't going to be fixed in a short time. River and staff has made improvements, and also made some bone-headed mistakes. I guess it needs to be filed under "growing pains"

Is it fair to say that Rivera has earned at-least one more season.

I don't care if we're being competitive with everyone. We need to learn how to win games. I see the Defense made a lot of progress. The offense I think will start picking up gradually due to less option plays. So now this team just needs to learn how to win at the end. That's the deal breaker for me at least. If we show progress. His game management skills and decisions improve, and if we're in a close game and win, I say he's earned one more season. He's got us so close week in and week out. He's doing something right.

Well, I want to give Rivera another year with his staff. He was a rookie HC and he's learning as he goes. He's learned some pretty tough lessons over the time he's been here and he came into a pretty crappy situation.
I'd like to see us promote Beane to GM and give both he and Rivera through next season to get us on the right track. If not, clean house. But I don't want to see this roster gutted right now. Last year we had the 7th overall O, now we're a top 10 D, so you can't tell me the talent isn't on the roster. They just need to figure out how to take that next step.

To me this is has actually become very simple. I feel like Rivera is running a 5 mile Race. For the first 3 and a half miles he has been bad, terrible even. In my heart I do not believe he's going to do enough with the last mile and a half to convince me that he will win the race. However, I'm willing to give him every opportunity to try. I don't care how we finish in terms of momentum. I don't care about excuses. The one thing I care about is that we were 6-10 last year and with a better more mature roster I expect us to be significantly better than that. To me 8-8 was the floor and anything below that would have been a HUGE disappointment. Well nothing has really changed. Its a feel good story to finally see the defense pick up but you can't start running at the END of the race with no excuses then expect me to understand when you come in last. There are 8 games left go win 6 of them or go home..... for good.

Look at how Bill Walsh, Chuck Knoll and Bill Bellickick started their coaching careers.
