140 million for Ryan ?

ohlord        http://www.ajc.com/news/sports...-million/nWgrq/

If this is what they are after screw him, let him play out his contract, franchise him next year, and prepare to move on from him ...I love him, but he's not worth 20 million per ....a contract like that will insure a return to mediocrity very soon ....if he wins a SB this year, then give him anything he wants, and I will not care ....

Even if it says 140 the only thing that will matter will be the guaranteed money which will be closer to 60 mil

Re: 140 million for Ryan ?

Ego and inflation of self worth (plus an agent's dealings). Even big time owners have limited pockets and the last time I checked, the NFL has a salary cap for teams. Devoting that much money to one very good QB and (I'm sure) all-around great guy will cripple the team's chances to get other talented players to play all of the other positions on the team. Unless Ryan can also run and catch the ball and make tackles on defense.

How much money does a man need to live? How much money does a man need to live comfortably? How much money does a man need to live extravagantly? Is a salary and "coin" the only way he can prove his importance to himself and the team or can he do it through wins and championships at a reduced cost (yet still earning more annually than any 100 normal people)? ohlordbangheadohlordbangheadohlord

Tom Brady makes a lot of money and the pats seem to do ok.  noidea I'm fine with whatever they give Ryan just as long as they lock him up for a long time to come.  I do not want to go back to sitting at home in January, picking in the top 10 every year, and basically knowing the season is over before October.  No thanks!  ohlord

I think we know well enough how that feels. So do some other teams I can think of!

RE: 140 million for Ryan ?

I don't think Ryan will cost that much UNLESS we win it all this year, or he wins an MVP. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm fairly certain a healthy chunk of why Flacco got paid is his 9-4 postseason record and being fresh of a Superbowl win.

IF Ryan holds out for that much, then we Franchise him for 2014 and then work on an extension the following offseason. But 100% we'd need to bide our time. I'm not against paying Ryan a lot, but Flacco is so overpaid it's not funny and he has to realize that and be willing to settle in more reasonable territory. Say mroe aroudn 17 per year. That would make him one of the highest paid players in the NFL, but if he insists on being above Flacco then he can look to see if anyone actually thinks he's worth that much. I'd hate to see him go, he's the best QB the Falcons have ever had, but paying someone over 20M per is insane in the NFL.

Its way better having a chance with Ryan every year. Not even close.

Thin Mints in the freezer bring the pain.

RE: 140 million for Ryan ?

The agent for Joe Flacco said he "really views" his client's new contract as a three-year pact.
Officially, the deal is for six years and $120.6 million. But in 2016, the Ravens would have to take a $28.55 million cap hit -- something that is unlikely to happen. Even Flacco's agent expects to restructure at that point. "Depending on the salary cap, that's what will determine when we get to the fourth year, what they're going to have to do," said player rep Joe Linta. "We really viewed this as sort of a three-year deal to make sure the first three years Joe was paid accordingly with the top guys in the league."

Basically a three year deal. These are never as they seem.
