Game 2: Patriots vs Cardinals - GAME BALLS & GOATS

Hey Guys, you know the drill. Pick three players who were the top performers of the game and then pick the three players who did not play up expections or the three (the PePe Lephews) that really stunk it up onthe playing field.

Please wait until after the game to post.

Re: Game 2: Patriots vs Cardinals - GAME BALLS & GOATS

Oh....where to begin.  Lets start with the Goats this time.

GOATS:

1.  The whole offense, minus a select few.  Brady for poor overthrows.  Welker/Gronkowski/Lloyd for big drops.  The backup TE for sacking Brady.  The whole right sight of the OL from C, RG, and RT for being pretty mediocre in pass defense and opening holes in the running game.

2.  McDaniels.  What the he** was up with the play calling the 2nd half.  How many predictable Woodhead draws did we need?  The best RB on the team should have been on the field unless his conditioning didn't allow it (and if that is true, that is a different issue).

3.  Belichick.  The poor challenge that blew a timeout (which in the end didn't matter because the defense saved him) and agreeing to that stupid plan of wasting the  last 40something seconds to go for a 40+ yard field goal.  What?!?  Get some more yards and go for the chip shot.  Why waste almost a minute to kick a long field goal?

Balls:

1.  The whole defense.  They did what needed to be done to win the game and the offense failed them.

2.  The rookies again.  Jones for causing a ton of pressure from his side, Hightower for making plays behind the line of scrimmage, and Wilson for another huge play.

3.  McCourty for shutting down one of the best receivers in the game.

The Offense, The Coach and the Play Calling!

Re: Game 2: Patriots vs Cardinals - GAME BALLS & GOATS

BALL: The Defense - they certainly played well enough to win and had a few stellar plays (Spikes, Jones, Wilson, etc.).

GOATS: Everyone else on the friggin' team, coaches included. I could go into detail, but why bother. The O and ST and coaching sucked today. Bad.

Re: Game 2: Patriots vs Cardinals - GAME BALLS & GOATS

Balls:

1). Ken Whisenhunt...great game plan, he had Brady on his heels most of the game.

2). Arizona defense...much better than anybody thought.

3). Stephen Ridley...still looked pretty good.

Goats:

1). Brady...certainly not the reason they lost, but he really didn't play well.

2). McDaniels...I still don't understand what they were doing in the second half.

3). Dick Stockton...God bless him as he really is a legendary announcer, especially for his NBA play calling in the 80's. But he makes broadcasts almost uncomfortable. He made a lot of mistakes. It might be time for Dick to retire.

Re: Game 2: Patriots vs Cardinals - GAME BALLS & GOATS

BALLS

1. Ridley - Hes really looking like he can be a star rb

2. Spikes - He was solid with his tackling, and the forced fumble at end of game was huge.

3. Mccourty - Great coverage on larry fitz.

Honorable Mentions

GOATS

1. Offensive playcalling. Everytime a drive was moving, via hurry up and passing, a draw and toss run was called to kill the momentium. Also, the call to sit on the ball with 40 seconds left, on 1st down is terrible. Why not atleast a could iso runs up the middle, get maybe 3-4-5 more yards?

2. Gost missing a gamewinning f/g. He went 4/4, two 50+ yard kicks, and misses a 43 yard, badly, terrible way to handle pressure.

3. Refs, all throughout the day, bad calls, missed calls, wrong calls! But the holding pentalty on gronk to take away the late td was terrible.

Honorable Mentions,

Arizona played above there level, and got a huge win.
Bradys timming was off, and really overthrew alot of balls, welker again with a big 3rd down drop, and lloyd with a few drops also. Brady overthrowing gronk for a deep td, back to back games, 2 deep td's missed,......

Re: Game 2: Patriots vs Cardinals - GAME BALLS & GOATS

Oh....where to begin.  Lets start with the Goats this time.

GOATS:

1.  Josh McDaniels! This little 7th grader train wrecked a whole franchise in Denver and now he`s phasing Welker out of the lineup and his pathetic play calling is a mess. I think this offense will sputter under the guidance of this goon! Just look at the way he handled that last minute of play.

2.  Brady, his play has been mediocre since the AFC title game. Where`s the fire. He deserves my goat because of that poor pass to Gronk in the endzone. If that catch is made, the momentum shifts and as poorly as they played they still win by 10.

3.  Belichick, Agree with the other goat! Poor game all around but my gripe goes beyond this. His off season moves again are poor. He signs all these goons makes it looks like he`s stock piling the cabinet only to cut all of them. Bone head moves. Fanane`s injured, Gallery gets his bonus, he cuts Koppen, he messes around with Waters when he could`ve signed maybe one or two bigger names added another OL  instead of losing everyone. He cuts branch, Gaffeny and Stallworth then signs that goof from the Rams for which he will never play. Plax would sure help now!

Balls:

1.  The defense held it together.

2.  Hightower! Love his speed and tenacity

3.  Gost! I know I got on him right after the fg, but that clown McDaniels did set him up to fail. That had to be pure pressure. Gotta give it to him, he hit some big shots that was the only salvage of the day for that lousy offense.

Re: Game 2: Patriots vs Cardinals - GAME BALLS & GOATS

Balls

1. Patriots defense. They have played better in two games than they have all of last year. They got a turnover that should have allowed the Patriots to win the game.

2. Arizona defense. I know they were good. Lead the league in third down stops last year. Aggresive. They have a lot of Pittsburgh in them (see coaching staff)

3. Singling out McCourty, Hightower, Jones and Wilson. Wilson has a fumble recovery and interception in two games. He is around the ball and not out of position. The first and second year players (especially the first) stepping up big time.

Goats

1. Goskowski. If you can make 50 yarders then make a friggen 42 yarder. The Patriots absolutley cannot have a kicker who CANNOT kick under pressure. It was a 42 yarder. AN NFL kicker has got to make that kick. I hope it wasn't nerves because if so the Patriots better find this out sooner rather than later.

2. McDaniels. Now it has been said that maybe it was the Cardinals defense and not the play calling. Great defense for sure, but the play calling leaves a lot to be desired. Why not go for more yardage and give Goskowski a better chance. Hey maybe even score  TD. Just basically wasting time and laying on the ball. A chammpionship coach has got to know and call the plays better. Belichick should have insisted, he has the final say. Oh yeah Woodhead, really draw plays to him when something else should have been called. SMH.

3. The OL is OFFENSIVE. They should have been on the phone to Waters DURING THE GAME. He is needed more than ever and they have a ton of cap space. They better do something, so far this is the worst OL they have had in decades. I don't think they can fix this without bringing in more talent.

Dis Honorable mention:

Edelman, you help change the game plan by rolling on the back of Hernandez leg. Now he is gone for six weeks. And what have you done to replace Welker? NOTHING, and for that I blame the coaching staff McD.  It has taken only two games to remember what a eff-up McD can be. This is horrible. Why is Welker not playing more. Whatr are they trying to prove?

Belichick for not drafting or trading for a center in the draft or free agency. I said that they need a center. They didn't address it and it painfully shows. I thought Cannon would be an answer at RG. SO far I have been absolutely wrong.

Re: Game 2: Patriots vs Cardinals - GAME BALLS & GOATS

Spot with your honorable mentions for goats.

These cheap skates couldn`t get a long term deal for Welker! He only became their all-time pass catcher yesterday, been a model PAT, kept his mouth shut, etc. Then BB on his once again pathetic off season signings. He signs all of these goons and more than half of them are injured. Fananae and Gallery-Then he cuts all of the receivers and trades for that guy on the Rams who will never play! Or maybe he can contribute on making a tackle in ST one game. He could`ve signed maybe two bigger name FA`s and your right a center! This Welker thing will smack them right in the face!

Re: Game 2: Patriots vs Cardinals - GAME BALLS & GOATS

Didn't see the game so my awards will come from what I was able to hear on the radio broadcast and see in clips and the little bits that were shown on NFL Red Zone.

Game Balls
1. Run defense - 20 something yards rushing by the Titans last week, and what was it this week, something like 60 or so?

2. Pass defense - 1 catch for Fitz, and from what I hear good pass pressure throughout the game.

3. Ridley and Gronk - Seems like they were the only two players on the whole offense that don't deserve a goat this week, so they get a game ball just for that.

Goats
1. The O-Line - Seems like this is still the biggest problem on the team.  It was actually decent last week, and I guess I can't say they were terrible this week since I didn't see the game.  But in the little bit I saw, they were getting beaten pretty good.  Donald Thomas (or whatever his name is) is beyond bad, and as much as I hate to say it Marcus Cannon really sucks.  He's personally gonna get Brady maimed this season.   And this goes back to BB.  I assumed he did nothing to address the situation because he knew Waters was coming back.  Well, Waters isn't coming back.   Come to think of it, it might be a good idea to give him a call and offer to triple his pay to get him back in here.

2. McD and his playcalling - One example that jumped out to me, which I actually saw.  Pats with third and long on the Arizona 30.  I think the game was tied.  You need all the points you can get so at the very least you need to move the ball forward for a solid FG chance.  Instead he runs a deep toss sweep to Woodhead (who is looking pretty bad in this offense so far, btw) and they lose like 7 yards and end up having to punt.

3. Aaron Hernandez' legs - Are they ever going to make it through a season without an injury that takes them out for multiple games?  Maybe next year.

Re: Game 2: Patriots vs Cardinals - GAME BALLS & GOATS

Balls:

1- AZ coaching for their winning game plan
2- AZ D for clutch(sp) play when they needed it
3- Cards always seemed tocall the rite plays at the rite time

Goats:

1- Well, there you go again Bill. Keep Welker "benched" and watch the fans head for the exits early
2- Tommy Teriffic. What happened Tom? Is it really time to start breaking in your replacement? We all knew the O line needs time to gel. Stop wineing and blaming your "just 1 time" team mates.
3-  Oh lord NO! Heeeeee's back...........Who calls the offense plays?????
