Ventrone and Barrett I expected. Stallworth I was hoping would work out. Looks like Branch might stay then.
Although, There is another 25 or so players to dump to get to the 53. Anything can happen in Patsland.

Re: PATRIOTS ROSTER CUTS (1st Round) ... uodated
Posted by ahart on August 27, 2012 – 9:32 am According to ProFootballTalk.com, the Patriots have cut veteran receiver Donte’ Stallworth. Various other reports indicate the team has also cut veteran defensive lineman Tim Bulman. This comes after The Boston Globe reported that the team has parted ways with Gerard Warren, Josh Barrettand Ross Ventrone. Many, including yours truly, thought that Stallworth might make the team thanks to the great respect the organization had for his professionalism and veteran skills. But apparently that was not enough to overcome a pretty poor training camp and the overall competition, both at wide receiver and for roster spots in general. With the above five moves, the Patriots have five more transactions to make by the 4 p.m. deadline for teams to be down to 75 players. It’s possible, and likely, that a few moves to reach that limit would involve placing Myron Pryor (shoulder) and Jake Ballard (knee) on PUP and rookie Markus Zusevics (pectoral) on NFI.

Expect Pryor and Zuscevics moves to come. Ballard already happened.

Not surprised about Stallworth. He didn't look great in pre-season games. Too bad, I like the guy, but competition too strong at that position.

I too was hoping Stallworth made it. At least BB cut him early so he can go and latch on with another team.

Re: PATRIOTS ROSTER CUTS (1st Round) ... uodated
Posted by ahart on August 27, 2012 – 10:26 am According to the Baltimore Sun, the Patriots have cut fullback Spencer Larsen.
Larsen had signed with the team this spring as an unrestricted free agent. His contract included a $250,000 signing bonus. The veteran former Bronco missed a large chunk of training camp due to injury. With Tony Fiammetta having been placed on the left camp list earlier this summer, that leaves Eric Kettanias the lone possible option to make the roster at the fullback position. The team, which hasn’t used a true fullback in a few years, had seemingly loaded up at the spot with three players this spring. Now, it’s down to just Kettani as a possible Patriot.

I'm thinking Kettani sticks. Wouldn't be surprised to see the Jets go after Larsen since he was one of Tebow's targets in Denver.

Didn't want to start a new thread so I'm posting this here.

The Patriots got back to work on the practice field Monday – most of them. On a day when at least 10 players had to be axed to get down to the 75-player, league-mandated roster limit, 12 Patriots were not in uniform. One notable exception was WR Wes Welker, who did not play in Friday night’s preseason game at Tampa or in the previous day’s joint practice with the Bucs. Speaking to reporters in the locker room prior to today’s workout, Welker said “personal reasons” kept him out of action last week, but he would not elaborate on whether he was actually injured. Nor would head coach Bill Belichick, who described Welker as “day-to-day” in his pre-practice remarks to the the media. Some players who did take part in the Bucs game did not practice today, including running backs Stevan Ridleyand Shane Vereen (who left with a left lower leg injury), linebacker Brandon Spikes, and o-lineman Nick McDonald (right arm). In addition, safety Patrick Chung (shoulder), out since the Eagles game last Monday night, was back on the field observing drills in a t-shirt and shorts. Others not taking part: DB Will Allen; WR Jabar Gaffney (right leg or hip); linebacker Tracy White (unknown); o-linemen Matt Kopa rookie Markus Zusevics (pectoral/NFI); tight endVisanthe Shiancoe; and defensive lineman Myron Pryor (shoulder/PUP). Gaffney, Ridley, Zusevics, and Pryor were doing rehab work on an adjoining field. It’s been reported by various media outlets that seven players have either been cut or assigned to an injury-related list, meaning three more transactions (at least) would need to be made today. It’s unclear at this hour who among the missing would be among the three.

Re: PATRIOTS ROSTER CUTS (1st Round) ... updated 6:10pm (FINAL)
They brought in all those WR's this offseason but it looks like they are going to have the exact same group except for the addition of Lloyd. I have to say that is disappointing. We just can't seem to get rid of Deion Branch for some reason. There HAS to be better players out there somewhere. Maybe next year we'll finally draft one before round 7.

By all reports he was one of Brady's main targets. So much for bringing in old blood. Time to find some young studs and keep them around awhile. Of course it will make no difference who the WR's are if Brady is on his ass all night. The Oline is the Pats Biggest concern.

I saw little bits here and there that Gaffney was actually hurt pretty bad.
Of course, *when* a WR gets injured Gaffney and Stallworth are on speed-dial.

Of course, *when* a WR gets injured Gaffney and Stallworth are on speed-dial. Gaffney was one of the better WRs in camp. The injury bug hit him hard. Branch has been the most consistent. Just look at the role he played with Mallett vs Brady, never missed a beat. Same can't be said of others.
Still, Surprised that no OLs were cut. indication there's a bigger problem of separating the talent from the backups.

Re: PATRIOTS ROSTER CUTS (1st Round) ... uodated
Really kind of amazing when you consider all the WR's they had a month ago.
It's clear they're changing to a more TE/RB focused offense. Which is fine by me.
You want to scare a DB, put Demps out there as a flanker - he's either going to get doubled, draw a holding call, or be wide open after 20 yards.
I had a feeling Branch would stick. He was just too involved in everything.

Re: PATRIOTS ROSTER CUTS (1st Round) ... uodated
I just can't help but think a healthy Gaffney would perform better than a healthy Branch. Like everyone else I was shocked by the cut. I had to read it twice. Maybe his injury is worse off than is advertised.
They basically have the same WR group from last year except for LLoyd. Which means I expect when the real games start Branch will have trouble and disappear for games.
Slater sucks as a WR. He is on the team strictly because of his special teams play. Sorry to be harsh but that's just straight talk. Edelman better than Gaffney? No but I guess him playing in the DB in an emergency basis does count.

Re: PATRIOTS ROSTER CUTS (1st Round) ... uodated
I'm not as worried. Branch at this point in his career is kind of like Troy Brown was at the same point. He wasn't the stats leader, but he made enough big plays that probably no one else would that you kept him. Right now I see him in that role ... #3 or #4 guy, depending on what they do with Edelman, but he'll come through and save Brady's bacon enough times to matter.
Lloyd's rep is also that he can make the same "how'd he do dat?" catches Moss used to. Great body control, waits til last instant to reach for the ball.
For the kind of offense it looks like they're putting together, they don't need to stretch the field as much. Those championship team's offenses won by controlling the clock and by yards-after-the-catch. I'm more than happy to see them not in the top-10 in points if they're in the top 3 of time-of-possession and turn-overs.
If they never throw another pass to Slater it'll be too soon. Lining up Demps as a WR will scare the crap out of a defense - unless he proves to have hands as bad as Slater.

Just saw in the post-game write-ups that Waters' locker is still intact in Foxboro - so maybe he will be coming back afterall.

Somehow I think if they need to bring back either Gaffney or Branch it won't be that hard.
As for Waters if it looks, quacks and acts like a duck it's a Pats OL
