A$$ante

Samuel spent Easter out on Twitter telling everyone how great he is. And his numbers are impressive. This activity leads me to believe he's going to be traded, though.

Ocho and Sterling Moore took the opportunity to reply to A$$ante's boasts:

@ochocinco: Tell him i'lll beat him up in real life RT @BlkSportsOnline: BSO: Asante Samuels Says a WR Hasn't Beaten Him on a Route in Two Years

@sterlingmoore: Well damn, thats how he feels lol RT @BlkSportsOnline: Asante Samuels Says a WR Hasnt Beat Him on a Route in Two Years ******/HtpLOT

Re: A$$ante

Well, the Patriots should bring back Asante Samuel because they have proven that they lack the ability to draft a decent cornerback, or get a comparable player to fill the role of "shutdown corner"  by any other means.  It's been 4 years since Samuel was let go, and look at the revolving door of has-beens, losers, and rejects that have stood back there in the Defensive backfield, and taken a pounding on the football field.   What was once a respected NFL Defense, disintegrated into an NFL laughingstock.

Did ya all really enjoy how easy it was for Joe Flacco to drive right down the field for the final TD drive in the Playoffs....which, had the receiver just hung on to the ball, would have been the winning touchdown?  Did ya all really enjoy how quick and easy it was for Eli Manning to drive down the field for 7 points in the final 2 minutes to send The Patriots home once again without a Super Bowl win?

Well I didn't.   Their Defensive Backfield sucks ever since they got rid of their shutdown corner, and tried to do things on the cheap.  This doesn't work (as we have seen play out now for 4 years).

There's a saying: You get what you pay for.  And Cornerback is one of the true skill positions in the NFL, and you need to have some serious talent at that spot to have a serious Defense.

Bill Belichick's Defenses in fact have devolved into the embarassment of the NFL for the past 3 years -- especially in the passing game. It's time to reject the idea of always doing things on the cheap and just hoping that's good enough.  That bizzare obsession has been a total failure.

So bring back Asante Samuel, and then you will have at least one spot in the Defensive Backfield anchored down, which won't be an embarassment, and you'll have a playmaker who can help get you off the field on 3rd-down.   The Patriots don't have that today, and their track record in the draft at corner is awful.

So yes I trust Asante Samuel (a known talent), much more than I trust the Patriots ability to ever draft a "shutdown cornerback".  They've proven that they cannot do this (over the last 7 years).

And remember it was Bill Parcells who drafted Ty Law.
Belichick can't just keep fooling around at the corner position anymore.

Re: A$$ante

Unless A$ante is willing to get paid what he's really worth (given that he can't, you know, tackle and stuff) I don't see him coming back to Foxboro. Too much bad blood between him and BB - and lets not forget that dropped INT back in the '07 SB.

There's no way BB is about to bring that character back, ...

Cromartie has a better chance of remembering the names of all of his children than ASSante does of returning to New England.

Chance favors the Prepared Mind.

Re: A$$ante

Looks like a trade with Denver  for A$ante broke down over money. He has to agree to less money. He's due $10M this year and $11.5M next. No way he's worth that - except in his own mind.

Reports are they Eagles wanted a 3rd round pick - and so far no takers - so they just want his salary off their payroll even if they take less for him.

Re: A$$ante

What will the Falcons do with him?  A$$ante is like Darrel Bevis.  A$$ante is very much one dimensional.  Even before he parted ways with the Pats, the rest of the league had figured  out how to avoid interactions with him.  Since his start with the Beagles he has become even more predictable.  I don't think the Falcons are going to benefit form his more than predictable skills.

Or how to nullify him - catch it in front of him and make him tackle.

RE: A$$ante

I usually don't like the Herald, but they nailed it:

For each of his 23 interceptions as an Eagle, Samuel missed five tackles.

For every pick he turned into six, he gave up 10 touchdowns.

Asante Samuel was a fraud, wrapped in a mirage, inside an illusion.

He had the hands of a receiver and the tackling skills of a quarterback.
