Koppen Making Visits

From yesterday's Twitter and  newswire

Dan Koppen May be headed elsewhere – According to a published report, Patriots free agent center Dan Koppen is headed south for his first free agent visit. Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean reports that the Titans will host the long time Patriot later this week, possibly Wednesday. Koppen, 32, suffered a broken leg in the first game of the 2011 season, landing on injured reserve shortly after. The 9 year veteran is the fourth center the Titans have looked at.

Koppen back for depth would make sense but only at a reasonable price.

Sadly I think the reasonable price for Koppen is the vet minimum, which for him is still about $1M I believe.  I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't on a roster when the season starts next year.  noidea

Re: Koppen Making Visits

The Patriots had needed to move on from Koppen for at least two years. A back-up at the vets minimumis all I would do. However if you get a center who can play guard as well, then his services will not be needed.

My only thought with Koppen is TB is comfortable with him and if either guard went down would allow Connolly to slide over and Koppen play center.

Though I think a few of the younger guys filled in for Connolly for a few snaps last season with no issues.

My lunch just went into the toilet. Please let them draft his replacement who can start by the second or third game if not game one. They needed a center for the past two years and look what the (insert bleep) just did.

It could also mean that they do plan to draft a center and this gives the new guy 2 years to learn the job.

I'm with Morph on this one.......I don't think he will ever see his 2nd year. I think this is just insurance in case the Patriots don't leave the draft with a center and/or guys they bring into camp don't pan out.

I think Connolly starts and Koppen is depth...I don't see a reason to go backwards here though they do need someone to give Connolly a break who TB is comfortable taking a snap from.

Matt Light has announced his retirement. This makes the decision to keep Koppen make more sense - keeps a veteran core intact.
