Not sure why but Shanhan seems to have our number. We are 2-5 against him in the Brady/Belichick era

Re: Official Game thread: Redskins vs. Patriots
I imagine the Patriots will have the rest of the season to continue to try players out, at different positions, and play around with defensive schemes to see what works.
The Patriots officially clinch the AFC East this week with a win and a Jets loss against Kansas City.

These next two road games can be tricky. This defense might just make Grossman look like a pro bowler. Need a fast start on the road.

RE: Official Game thread: Redskins vs. Patriots
The one thing about moving and switching players around is that the other team has no idea what you are doing...of course hopefully BB knows himself what he is doing and isn't just using a dartboard and a set of dice to figure out who plays where.

RE: Official Game thread: Redskins vs. Patriots
They need to get Ocho, Underwood, Vereen, Edelman into the offense. Not just to give them reps and build confidence with Brady, but to keep Gronk, Welker, and Law Firm from getting worn out before the playoffs.

RE: Official Game thread: Redskins vs. Patriots
They need to incorporate the RB's into the passing game better. Do it now then save it for the PO's.
If this O-line can't open up consistent holes we will need that dimension to the offense or we'll be in big trouble come PO time with how our D plays. Teams with a ball control offense can beat all teams even GB. We don't have to have a deep threat to win it all. We need execution and to rely on Brady's awesome accuracy with quick passes and keeping the D guessing. The threat of the run without big production can keep the D off balance, while quick throws can substituted for no consistent rushing yards. If they are jamming us and the ball is in the air, penalty!

RE: Official Game thread: Redskins vs. Patriots
The problem with getting the RBs into the passing game is Lawfirm has consistently shown he is a liability receiving and pass blocking. When Woodhead is in, the other team know its a pass. The rookies have essentially no experience. It may be too late to try to get them contributing for the playoffs

RE: Official Game thread: Redskins vs. Patriots
We don't know what they practice but don't show. For all we know they may have 17 different screen plays ready to go. Given that D's expect a pass, the screen should be lethal given how explosive Ridley and Vereen are in the open field.

RE: Official Game thread: Redskins vs. Patriots
BB used to save some strategies for big games. He actually hasn't pulled any out in teh first round of the playoffs the last few years.
So the script for the Redskins is...score quick and often, get up by 3 scores...go into prevent and let them score 2 of the 3 times.

RE: Official Game thread: Redskins vs. Patriots
Ridley, Vollmer, Fletcher not at practice. Full pads today - assumption is BB not happy about 30-minutes worth of effort vs. Colts. Fletcher needed multiple surgeries on his thumb, that's why it's taking so long - damn - must have really shredded something. Signed a TE/WR guy to the PS - interesting that this guy also played LB: The Patriots have signed second-year player Dorin Dickerson to the practice squad. Dickerson, a seventh-round pick of the Texans last year, played seven games with Houston last season, mostly on special teams. He was released by Houston on final cut-down day this year, but was scooped up by the Steelers, who added him to their practice squad from Sept. 12 to 15. New England had Dickerson in for a workout last week. During his college career at Pittsburgh, Dickerson played receiver, linebacker and tight end.

RE: Official Game thread: Redskins vs. Patriots
I find it interesting that an individuals talent level means little to nothing. There are players who are physical specimens and seem to have the whole package but in a specific group of guys playing a certain scheme they do nothing. But take a guy off the streets and plug him in and he fits the scheme and fills a particular weakness in that grooup and BAM it just works.

RE: Official Game thread: Redskins vs. Patriots
I remember watching this kid a bit. He has good size and was allot like Hernandez in college. His big issue what that he did not have good hands and dropped allot of easy catches. Good size though and decent speed. Could be an asset if he can learn to catch.

RE: Official Game thread: Redskins vs. Patriots
He'll have Branch, Welker, and Faulk to learn from ... if they can't teach him to catch, no one can. I'd have said "... and Ocho" there but Chad has his own deal to worry about right now.
It'd be nice to see Underwood click too. He's got good speed and seems like a good fit personality-wise for the team.

A little in-sight from Carter, ...
Facing one of his former employers this weekend, Andre Carter is just happy to have a job. Plus, more news and notes from Wednesday, December 7 at Gillette Stadium. Andre Carter didn't expect to be here at this point.
By 'here,' he wasn’t referring to New England, but the NFL in general. During the locked-out offseason, when free agency was postponed and uncertainty ruled, the 11-year veteran defensive end resigned himself to the fact that his days in the league were over.
Yet, here it is December, and he's leading the Patriots in sacks with nine, having rejuvenated a career that began as the seventh overall pick in the 2001 Draft.
“I told everybody, I thought I was actually done, coming into this season,” Carter revealed today. “Just to be productive and have fun and play the game I’ve played for so many years, it’s a wonderful feeling.”
Was he unsure of his future because he felt teams had given up on him, after his first five years in San Francisco, and the last five in Washington?
“I don’t know. That’s something I never really asked. I’m not sure if people counted me out, but personally, because of what was going on with the lockout and vets not getting picked up, it was perhaps a long shot. God has definitely blessed me and my family and I’m enjoying the moment.
And though it’s only been a few months, Carter insists he feels right at home in New England.
“I think I’ve been comfortable since Day 1. I take every day as if it’s my last. Nothing’s ever promised, so, I just live in the moment. I have a great group of guys that I work with. Being in this game 11 years [in the NFL], that’s definitely an accomplishment. Every day I come in here, I’m thankful.”
This weekend, Carter will travel with his Patriots teammates to his former home in Washington to face the Redskins. He admitted it will probably feel “a little bit” strange to be on the visitors’ sideline at FedEx Field.
“But I know they expect me to give them my best shot and vice versa,” added Carter. “So, it’s going to be a great battle.
“I’m going to go out there just like any game and prepare for another great opponent. There are guys I established a working relationship with … I was there five years, been through the highs and lows, so, you have the memories. Overall, you take the good with the bad, but I had a great time in D.C.”
Only a year removed from being a Redskin, Carter nevertheless downplayed the impact he could have on helping his Patriots teammates prepare for Washington this week.
“Honestly, every year is always something different. You can only provide so much information. I’m not sure how much valuable information I can give them,” he chuckled.
However, he did offer one nugget about quarterback Rex Grossman.
“Grossman’s going to throw that ball deep. He definitely takes some chances, he’s a gun slinger … we have to avoid the deep ball.”
If the Patriots are lucky enough to come out with a win in Washington, Carter promised he wouldn’t rub it in on his former teammates.
“Never that … I never gloat,” he laughed. “Just try to go out there and put on a good performance.” . Credit: Patriots.com . . However, he did offer one nugget about quarterback Rex Grossman.
“Grossman’s going to throw that ball deep. He definitely takes some chances, he’s a gunslinger … we have to avoid the deep ball.”

The San Diego Duper Chargers, Cowboys, the Dream Team are loaded with those physical specimens. They look great on paper but then it rains on their parade! Team play as you know can morph and beat better talent if they are on the same page playing for each other. That adaptability conquers great skill in a 60 minute game most of the time.

RE: Official Game thread: Redskins vs. Patriots
I hope the Patriots lose one of them next four just to keep them on their toes. I don't think it will be Washington this week. The Redskins offense is horrendous and two of their better offensive players just got suspended for the rest of the season.
I'm kind of aggravated - a friend of mine had an extra ticket to the game, but I'm taking off for Miami for a few days.

RE: Official Game thread: Redskins vs. Patriots
You will see more of Underwood, they will try to utilize his speed, that is only to open the field, up for the other guys come playoff time. so defenses can't just clog all the passing lanes up. As far as Ocho forget it that ship has sailed he is USELESS.

RE: Official Game thread: Redskins vs. Patriots
Cunningham showed up on the injury report today. Looks like Markell Carter is about to be promoted - what I read today is he's been working ferociously behind the scenes to be ready. With Fletcher and Spikes both possible to return, they could actually have a decent LB corps Sunday.
I think I read that Ridley was back at practice - family emergency.
I agree we'll see a bunch of Underwood. It's really a shame Ocho can't get the hang of things or whatever is going on. With Gronk and Welker on the roster, he could be playing *without* double coverage for the first time in his career - with TFB throwing to him.

There was a reason why Underwood was not on an NFL roster. He may have speed, but the guy cannot catch. He is a non factor on this team.

Latest I see on Twittah is that they're not promoting Carter, they're bringing back Eric Moore.

RE: Official Game thread: Redskins vs. Patriots
The only way we will see alot of Underwood is if Hernandez or Gronkowski are on the sidelines. I'd rather those two be on the field. Put Underwood out for 8-10 snaps to run down the field. Who knows, maybe he will even get a pass in his direction. 😃

I don't know. I thought Underwood looked OK in pre-season. Granted that's pre-season, but frankly I'd rather see him or Ocho out there than keep seeing Gronk, AHern, and Welker take a beating every snap.

More last minute roster moves: Patriots announce that DB Sterling Moore has been released. DB Malcolm Williams promoted from practice squad.
Williams is supposed to be better on ST. Sterling Moore may end up back on PS - I'd assume so, he played pretty well, deserves a shot.
Cunningham goes on IR.
DL Eric Moore (guy from UFL who played so well at the end of last season) is confirmed as signed now.

Re: Official Game thread: Redskins vs. Patriots
I think what I saw was that he had a hamstring. Those things take forever to heal, so BB probably figures by the time he'd be ready it'd be too late for what little he'd contribute.
I like getting Eric Moore back, was bummed that he got cut before the season started.
Feel bad for Sterling Moore, he did well for a rookie thrown into the trenches - hopefully he clears waivers and lands back on the PS.

Ha ha I love the "Bold Predictions" segment on NFL Network's Gameday Morning show. Today, Mooch's bold prediction is that "Chad Ochocinco will do something today that he's never done in his life... score a touchdown for the New England Patriots!".

Re: Official Game thread: Redskins vs. Patriots
We know you love to hate on McCourty but just because a receiver makes a catch it doesn't mean the CB sucks. He had good coverage on both plays and a perfect throw was made on each one. There's nothing you can do about those. Having another player on the field wouldn't have changed the result of those two plays.
