Re: Official Game 11 thread: Eagles vs Patriots

FWIW, Eagles are 1-4 at home this year. Young has thrown 2 TD's and 4 INT's, they're a -8 T/O ratio as a team, Pats are +5. So I'm not sure it being an away game hurts in this case. And given how the locals feel about Reid these days, if the Pats get ahead it won't be a very Eagle-friendly environment.

Not if Maclin and Vick are out. Pats don't usually give up the big play so Desean will be held in check. I would start Celek in your fantasy league though, he might have 12 catches..LOL

Re: Official Game 11 thread: Eagles vs Patriots

I don't see it as a nightmare - the Eagles offense is a turnover machine.  I doubt Vick starts, but if he does the Patriots need to hit him early and often.  The guy has just been beat up all season.  Vince Young is just a horrible QB.

Cruz in the slot absolutely blew up the Eagles defense.  The Eagles strength is the CBs on the outside - I don't see them having answer to Welker and Gronkowski.

McCoy is the key to this game - if the Patriots need to contain him.

This game scares me a little since Philly's season is on the line and they do have a ton of weapons. Hopefully this isn't the game that they put it all together.

RE: Official Game 11 thread: Eagles vs Patriots

DeSean Jackson has a bruised foot, left the stadium Sunday wearing a walking boot.

Hard to say who the Eagles will start at QB. Reid is saying Vick will start if healthy, but since Young did OK on Sunday there are rumors they won't rush Vick back. Don't think it matters much - they both play pretty much the same style.

The D is playing pretty well, but Philly isn't quite as self-destructive as KC. The O has got to come out strong, grab a lead, and make Philly 1-dimensional.

Healthy Mike Vick is twice the QB that VY is.   Not even close.    Now a hobbled MV likely isn't much of an improvement over VY.

Eagles have a Frankenstein D - one week it is Dr Jeckyl, the next Mr Hyde...actually usually Mr Hyde, as in I want to hide my eyes.

Haven't you been watching Skip Bayless man? He says the Eagles should have been starting VY the whole season and they would be 8-2eek1

But seriously, a healthy Vick worries  me with our slow LB's

Vick on all fours is faster than any of the Patriot linebacks. Young can run as well. Can see either of them running to keep drives alive. The Patriots seriously need to upgrade speed at the LB position.

Tarpinian and Tracy White are pretty fast...I could see them getting a bunch of playing time if Vick is running.

Guyton is one of the fastest LB's in the league. It'd be great if Fletcher was available, he's done well when BB has asked him to spy on mobile QB's.

Kind of sad that the best tackling safety on the team right now is a converted QB. Edelman is giving up a lot of size on Young, but the way he's popping guys it may be OK.

We are actually top 10 in pts allowed and I think top 10 in rushing Defense, Unfortunately we seem to have a different group of guys in the secondary every week so they can't get on the same page. Although the last 2 weeks we have had the same guys and they have played well.

We seem to let teams drive 99 yards down the field in 4 minutes only to get a FG. The whole bend but don't break thingbanghead

Nice breakdown Hawk.....No BB bashers yet? I guess many are realizing no one can do more with less than BB and that he will quickly adapt to player performance. Realizing that player aquisition is an inexact science that then depends on players executing what they are taught is a good thing folks.

I'm sure BB and Ventrone have an understanding. You don't yo-yo a guy that often without talking it over with him.

I'm not surprised the secondary is coming around. When I started reading up on Molden, Moore and Adams I liked what I saw. Typical BB players - good overall athletes, I think all excelled at other or multiple sports before settling on football, high character, worked for their breaks, smart. It took them a few weeks to get the hang of things, but every week they're better. It's not perfect or even great ... but they're making plays and there are fewer mistakes every week.

Ihedigbo was signed to be a ST guy ... but because of injuries he's had to start in six games. He's never gotten fewer than 5 tackles in any game he started. Not sure I want him to stay a starter, but that's pretty good production for a guy who never factored to see much time in rotation.

I wonder if Moore can change his first name from "Sterling" to "Earthwind" ... for for nostalgia's sake.

"how the hell is a Belichick team #32 in D"
.
As has been pointed out, - picking players who'll actually work out, isn't an exact science, for any coach including BB. - The Pats brought in Hayneswortyh & Ellis - both looked like good additions "at the time", - and would have given the defense some real muscle - if they decided to actually play. - Ellis is still here, and if he wants to, can still help, - TWT.

Vince Young is the new Tebow.  Play bad.. check that, not just bad but so painfully bad that it's almost hard to believe.. for the first 55 minutes and then come up with a game winning drive at the end so all the fans and media think you're great!

McCourty and Light at practice.

Spikes and Fletcher still out.

LB Tarpinian put on IR (was "illness" and now listed as head injury ... could be concussion?).

WR Underwood (dude with the hair) re-signed to roster.

Ventrone re-signed to PS (that's his 18th transaction with the team).

At the Eagles practice, Nnamdi Asomugha injured his ankle and had to be carted off.

Happy Patsgiving.

Ocho not at practice due to a "hamstring issue." Oh. My. God. What will the offense do without him?

---- edit ----

BB's remarks about A$ante today:  "I think (Tom Brady) has a good feel for what it’s like to play against him."

All indications are that Vince Young will start for PHI.

Turns out Ocho was at practice, just not for the media portion. We're saved!

FOXBOROUGH, Mass – With Chad Ochocinco not practicing today (his status will be updated on today’s injury report), and Deion Branch added to the injury report Thursday (hip, limited participation), an opportunity could be there for Taylor Price to seize.

Stop me if you've heard this before.

I would expect that only Jackson and Nnamdi play.   Maybe DRC.

Vick won't start,. but i would bet he dresses as the #2 QB and might get the call in the unlikely combination of VY struggles and the game still being within reach.

Re: Official Game 11 thread: Eagles vs Patriots

Latest Three pieces from the Newswire

  • Source: Vick ruled out vs. Pats, Young to start

Michael Vick has been ruled out for the Eagles’ game Sunday afternoon against the Patriots at the Linc, a team source said late Friday, and two-time Titans Pro Bowl pick Vince Young will make his second straight start at quarterback for the Eagles. Vick hasn’t practiced since suffering two broken ribs during the Eagles’ Nov. 13 game against the Cards at the Linc. In his first start as an Eagle, Young overcame a slow start to lead the Eagles to a 17-10 upset win over the Giants at the Meadowlands last Sunday.

  • Ex-Eagle Arrington shining with Patriots

His NFL career began with an anonymous, forgotten press release the Eagles sent out to the media back on April 28, 2008. “The Eagles signed seven undrafted rookie free agents: Wide receivers Shaheer McBride, Frantz Hardy and Terrell Golden; fullback Jed Collins; cornerback Kyle Arrington:, linebacker Justin Roland; and offensive tackle Franklin Dunbar.”

  • Eagles-Patriots picks

This is where the season unofficially ends if it hasn’t already. The Eagles remain a desperate team, but that won’t be enough to carry them past the Patriots. New England certainly isn’t unbeatable. Its defense is suspect, especially against the pass, and Tom Brady can be got behind an offensive line that has been porous at times.

Re: Official Game 11 thread: Eagles vs Patriots

Topic says it all
(From the Newswire)

This year's Patriots hard to decipher

They're last in defense but 10th in points allowed. They're having trouble blocking but Brady may break Marino's league record of 5,084 yards.

PHILADELPHIA—

— Much like the former Soviet Union, this year's New England Patriots are a riddle wrapped in an enigma, shrouded in mystery.

Or something like that.

On the one hand, they are ranked dead last in the NFL in passing defense (299.5 yards per game) and total defense (404.2). On the other, they give up only 20.3 points per game, which is good for 10th in the league and a huge reason why they are once again on top of the AFC East standings with a 7-3 mark.

Bend but do not break.  Its a frustrating way to play a game and its frustrating to watch but ya cant argue with the results.   10th lowest points allowed is not too bad.
