Re: Official game 5 thread. Cowboys vs Patriots
No way the Dallas D will contain the Pats O. Brady and Co. will put up a bunch of points. I'd love to see Price and Vereen get out there. I'd also love to see Ocho catch a TD ... or 3.
The D has to stop Felix Jones - which they should be able to do. And then take away Witten and Dez ... and that's where the problems will start. Romo is averaging around 320 y/g which could easily balloon to 450 against the Pats secondary. This is a good team to get turn-overs against - the 'Boys are -4 in TO's.

Just saw where the Pats released Welch and re-signed DGronk.

This really should be a 1pm start, Fox must be desperate. Oh ya the other 4pm game is NO vs TB. barely a decent game on their schedule. Before long Detriot along with GB will be the NFC's biggest draws.
I hope they stick to the balanced attack. They should be able to move effectively. Hopefully the progress they showed defensively vs the Jets continues.

Miles Austin will be back this week I believe. Austin, Dez and Witten create all kinds of issues for our secondary. Wonder if we will see Chung on Witten a lot like the Chargers game when he shadowed Gates

Re: Official game 5 thread. Cowboys vs Patriots
They're making a big deal about Dallas is coming off a bye all fresh and healthy - but they still have Romo at QB and zero leadership on that team. McCourty, Dowling, Bodden, and Chung need to generate INT's against Romo - if they can get back to the TO differential like last year that'll make teams a little less carefree passing against the Pats.

I don't think it matters what the Patriots do on offense or defense. Somehow, someway Tony Romo will find a way to blow it.

They used similar coverage on Dustin Keller against the Jets, so taking away elite TEs seems to be something BB wants to do.

They'll stuff the run and take away Witten - force Romo to beat them without his favorite target.

Re: Official game 5 thread. Cowboys vs Patriots
Unfortunately, Austin and Bryant are more than capable of beating our CB's like a rented mule. This is going to be a shootout and will ultimately come down to Brady v Romo, which is our advantage. I hope they have a plan to keep Ware from killing Brady, Light looked pretty bad against the Jets.

Re: Official game 5 thread. Cowboys vs Patriots
This should be a real tough game for the Pats. The Dallas D is run by another Ryan, the same one that shut down NE last year with Cleveland. Add to that Dallas has allot better personal it could be a long day for the Pats. On Defense the Pats will give up tons of yards and points. Dez Bryant will own McCourty for about 200 yards and Whitten will expose the LB along with F. Jones. We can all hope T.Romo pulls.......well a Romo, but if he doesnt this is going to be a very close game.

Re: Official game 5 thread. Cowboys vs Patriots
Not just another Ryan, also an ex-Pat.
The front 7 simply has to do a better job against Romo. He is the weak link in the Dallas O. The good thing is, all you gotta do is hurry him and he'll do something Romonic.

And who knows what Romo's preferences are - this is the guy who had a no-booze bachelor party where they played hide-and-seek, after all.

Via Twittah: The Patriots players who missed practice were: Mike Wright, Jerod Mayo, and Josh Barrett.
So it looks like Vollmer is back, as is Woody and Edelman - and all but one of the DB's.

Re: Official game 5 thread. Cowboys vs Patriots
May be this is the wrong thread, and if it is I apologize. I just didn't know where to post this. The Raiders just traded for Seattle linebacker Aaron Curry. All they did was give Seattle a seventh round pick. Where was New England in these dealings? Curry might be a borderline bust right now, but if I was BB I would have taken a shot giving Seattle a seventh round pick.

I think they also gave a conditional mid-round pick based on playing time.
Regardless, I would have liked to see the Patriots make that deal.

RE: Official game 5 thread. Cowboys vs Patriots
It's rare that we ever get any information about the Patriots being in on any deal, but you'd have to think that if they were it would have been with the condition that he restructure his contract. Also you'd have to figure in the Pats system it would likely take 3-4 weeks or him to acclimate anyway, not that he couldn't play in the meantime but he would be out of position alot.

RE: Official game 5 thread. Cowboys vs Patriots
Law Firm missed practice today: toe injury. Wilfork missed as well, reason unknown. Full pads practice. Faulk says he's 100% and ready to get off the PUP list. Mike Wright put on IR ... concussions 2 seasons in a row ... that could be it for him. CB Philip Adams was signed with Wright's slot being free. As for Adams, he's the scouting on him (7th round pick last year): | Overview | Adams slipped onto the radar screen when scouts from 15 NFL teams showed up to South Carolina State's pro day. And they weren't disappointed, as Adams posted impressive-enough workout numbers to jump into the conversation as a late-round pick (eventually going No. 224 overall to San Francisco). It continued a strong offseason for Adams, who was also a standout at the HBCU practices in December, which kicked off the all-star game circuit. In Montgomery, Adams impressed NFLDraftScout.com's Chad Reuter with his domination in press coverage and closing ability, and showed he had the speed to run with receivers downfield. |
| Analysis | Positives: Tough corner with good speed willing to lay the wood and be extremely physical at the line of scrimmage. Maintains contact with receivers all the way down the field. Makes the interception and makes hits to jar balls loose after the receiver gets his hands on it. Closes well on the ball when playing off. Can fit any system. One of best players at HBCU Bowl in Montgomery. Good attitude and leader. Negatives: From a lower level of competition, must transition quickly. Not an exceptional athlete or own great agility or speed (but more than adequate at both). Takes chances, will be burned by veteran receivers without taking coaching. |

Hey guys... Dallas fan here. See you guys are 7 point favorites, rightfully so, Brady's home record is unreal. Hope to see a great game (Game of the Week according to NFLN), and no more injuries. BTW, this will be our first game since Dec 09 wearing our Navy Blue uniforms...
Last time we wore them was a shut-out vs the Skins. 17-0, we won. And we don't wear them again this year. Definately not saying we will get a shut-out by any means.
Just had to throw that stat out there. Hoping for a good game and good luck to you all the rest of the season (just not this game).
Salute.

They decided they wanted to wear each color of their throw backs rather than wear red twice. I'm looking forward to it...I always liked the white helmet/white shirts/white pants look.

RE: Official game 5 thread. Cowboys vs Patriots
Philip Adams didn't last long. The Pats signed DT Marcus Harrison today. The scoop on Harrison via ESPN: "The 27-year old Harrison was a third-round pick of the Bears in 2008. At 6-foot-3, 316 pounds, he has played in 37 career games, including nine starts in 2009. However, Harrison played in only five games last season and was placed on the active/non-football injury list by Chicago this summer after reporting to training camp overweight. He was released during final cuts and was set to sign with the Panthers before failing a physical."So the thinking is he's a place-holder until Brace gets back. Mayo was back at practice, but isn't expected to play.

BJGE really is starting to remind me of Dillon - he sees that hole and it's like he's shot out of cannon - not much finesse, just power and decisiveness - and then he looks for someone to hit once he's through the line. As long as he gets decent blocking he's good for 5 per carry.
Add in Ridley, Woody, maybe Faulk, maybe Vereen - and by the second half the opposing DL will be too worn out to go after Brady.

I like Ridley a lot and have heard good things about Vereen but I am wondering why we took 2 backs in the draft? BJGE has looked explosive since given the starting nod and I think we could have used one of the RB picks on a defensive player. Oh well, hindsight is 20 20

RE: Official game 5 thread. Cowboys vs Patriots
It looks like a promising stable of backs. I got the Dillon comparison from you Dok...I agree.......BJGES lateral movement but still moving forward with power and speed looked very similar to clock killin Cory Dillon last week. He was carrying guys forward that had a good hold on him and was getting to the edge while making cuts that optimized what was there. Basically he left his dancing shoes at home and used his O-line, power and vision to look really good. Faulk can find space in the D like Welker can, just a great talent to have that some can't learn. He is not as fast as Woody but brings more savvy for certain plays if he is healthy. A play here or there depending on his health and aging abilities could be very hard for defenses to deal with. His knowledge and passion are irreplaceable, a true Patriot through and through. One of my favorites!
The O-line would love to take it to defenses more... I'm sure of that! Firing off forward is always more fun than back pedaling. A balance and production like last week going into bad weather and having all outdoor games this year would be awesome to watch and see imposed on our opponents. Brady behind center last week passing/handing off then handing off at times with draws from the shotgun was sweet to see....Keep them guessing and then pound them!
