Re: Official Game 15 thread: Patriots vs. Cardinals.

Hmmm ...

Pats 9-5, Cards 8-6 ... Cards already clinched the division, nothing to play for as they have no real hope of the top 2 seeds ... Pats playing their last regular-season home game with everything on the line ... weather forecast looks like 20's and light snow.

The weather could be a big ally here as that will reduce the effectiveness of the Cards passing game somewhat - they have the league's worst rushing attack (ranked 32nd). And BB knows Warner - and in the past has gotten a lot of INT's against him.

I think the Pats take care of business and run the ball - the Cards gave up 240 yards on the ground last week against the Vikes.

Young MC will be " Slingin' in the Snow" is my call.

It must be some kind of thrill for a California Kid like him to be playing in
this N.E. weather for the first time.  Im sure the "novelty" of it will wear off
quite fast though, lol.

Re: Official Game 15 thread: Patriots vs. Cardinals.

The Cards sure played against the Vikes like they have nothing to play for.

If the weather limits the passing game, I would say the Cards have no chance since that would eliminate the one big advantage they have (their WRs vs our secondary). I know the Pats do their share of passing, too, but I'll take the Pats over the Cards in a low-scoring, slug-it-out-in-the-rain/snow affair 10 times out of 10.

Re: Official Game 15 thread: Patriots vs. Cardinals.

We need to see some of that Belichick-designed trickery like we used to see - where he baits the opposing QB to throw where he wants it to go, and then Hobbs or Merriweather picks it off. Man, our D used to be so good at that. But they have go to get pressure up front - you can't let a veteran like Warner sit back there and make unhurried decisions. If the secondary can handle their assignments, they should blitz up front like madmen every time Warner drops back.

Re: Official Game 15 thread: Patriots vs. Cardinals.

Ty Warren tested things out last week against the Raiders.  Hopefully he is ready to go full speed this week.  That will help get some pressure upfront.

I think the key to this game will be to get physical right from the start.  The Cards have their division wrapped up, it will be cold, they just flew across country.  Hit this team in the mouth enough times and they might stop swinging back.

Re: Official Game 15 thread: Patriots vs. Cardinals.

It's going to be cold, maybe snowy, AZ has little to play for and the Pats are the better team....something like 42 - 24 Pats.

Re: Official Game 15 thread: Patriots vs. Cardinals.

The Vikings dominated the time of possession last week against the Cards thanks to their running game on offense and their pass rush on defense.  An effective running game this week will be huge for the Pats.  As for the pass rush, I'm not sure the Pats have anybody left on defense to generate much pass rush without sending DB's on blitzes.

Everyone is just hoping that this season doesnt turn into the 2002 season.
Pats may well win the rest of the way out, but any tiebreakers
as they are structured,,,, place them in a very bad situation, playoff wise.

Re: Official Game 15 thread: Patriots vs. Cardinals.

VBthang has the right idea I think. Come out hammering from the first whistle.  That goes for the O and D.  Run the Ball right up the middle. No Matt Light at Tackle means our no blocking TE's are will have to do double duty unless Evans or Faulk is in there every play.  Faulk is a pissa blocker plus they get the options with him.

Got to settle their DBs into a run game before the Pats air it out.

Prediction: Wes Welker - 8 to 10 catches and 115 yards.

Pats 34 Cards 24

I just hope the Cardinals can keep this one close.  Honestly, I think this one could look about the same as it did Thanksgiving night at Philly.

Re: Official Game 15 thread: Patriots vs. Cardinals.

The Cardinals fell behind 28-0 at home to the Vikings last Sunday and ended up losing the game by the score of 35-14. The game marked just the second time all season that Arizona has failed to score at least 20 points and was its third loss in the last four games overall. Arizona is 0-4 and been outscored by an average of 15 points per game when playing in the Eastern Time Zone this season. The last time a Cardinals' squad won such a contest was Week 11 of 2007 vs. the Bengals in Cincinnati. New England went into Oakland and spanked the Raiders, 49-26, last weekend and kept pace with the Dolphins and Jets at the top of the AFC East. It was the third time this season that the Patriots have scored 40+ in a game — most of any team in the league. The Patriots have won 14 straight games overall against NFC teams and haven't lost at home to an NFC squad since Green Bay beat them, 28-10, in October of 2002. Kurt Warner was selected to participate in the Pro Bowl for the fourth time in his career this week and for the first time since the 2002 Pro Bowl. He will be joined in the starting lineup by Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald — both three-time selections. The Cards' other player selected to play in Hawaii was Adrian Wilson who will start at strong safety for the NFC. New England had just two Pro Bowl selections this season — Stephen Gostkowski and Wes Welker will both be participating in Hawaii for the first time in their respective careers. Matt Cassel threw a career-high four touchdown passes last week against the Raiders — three of which came in the first half of the game. The last Patriot QB not named Tom Brady to have three TD passes in the first half of any game was Drew Bledsoe (10/1/00 vs. Denver). The Cardinals are averaging 299.0 net passing yards per game in 2008 — second-highest in the league and currently a single-season franchise high.

Re: Official Game 15 thread: Patriots vs. Cardinals.

My gut feeling is that if the Pats beat the Cards they WILL make the Playoffs. Not to sure if it will win the the Division but I think they get the last WC. With the the Colts winning last night the Ravens may be in a panic mode and with the Cowboys D playing much better and the fact that they are home I don't think the Ravens score enough points to beat them. The Ravens D will play well but not well enough to completely stop the Boys from scoring.

I think a loss by the Ravens tomorrow might just might give the Patriots that push to play their last 2 games with more passion and fire.

Of course I'm still hoping my prediction of the Jets losing to the Hawks and the Phins beating the Jets in another thread comes true.

Rumors on the internet (from PFT a fairly reliable source) are saying that Boldin and Arrington are not going to play.

Correct!  Both are injured and being held out.  I was more surprised by the J.J. news, because I wanted to see what he'd do if given more carries.

The Jets losing to the Hawks and Phins doesn't get us the division...it gets the Dolphins the division (assuming the handle KC this week).

The Ravens losing at Dallas seems like the best chance for the Pats to make the playoffs.

My Bad.....I meant the Jets losing to the Hawks and then the Phins losing to the Jets.

Yeah, figured that's probably what you meant. And I think that's the only other way (besides the Ravens losing to Dallas) that the Pats get in to the post season.

Re: Official Game 15 thread: Patriots vs. Cardinals.

Theoretically, if the Dolphins and Jets "tie", would the Pats win the Division?

Re: Official Game 15 thread: Patriots vs. Cardinals.

Assuming wins in all other games for the Pats, Jets and Dolphins, then yes, they'd win it at 11-5 while the Jets and Dolphins would be 10-5-1.

So much for the Ravens losing.  My god does Romo suck in important games.

Re: Official Game 15 thread: Patriots vs. Cardinals.

Chris,

he certainly had a let down, but the Dallas defense has to take the blame in that game fro allowing not one, but two huge runs for touchdowns with the game on the line.  Romo actually brought the Cowboys back after the first one.

With a Ravens win, and a Colts win, the only thing the Patriots can do is win out and hope the Ravens lose next week AND either the Jets or Dolphins lose this week.

It sounds like a lot of hoping.

Re: Official Game 15 thread: Patriots vs. Cardinals.

If a team that is weak wins their weak division and a team more deserving gets left out, that team should give up their spot.  It doesn't seem right the Patriots are even in this situation.

On the other hand, the Cowboys defense absolutely kept them in the game during the first 3 quarters while Romo was putting up a sub-50 QB rating and leading his team exactly no where.  But that's not even the point because wasn't trying to put the loss entirely on Romo's head.  I was just pointing out how once again, in an important game, Romo didn't deliver.

As far as I know, the Jet and Dolphin games have no bearing on the WC. As for the Ravens losing next week........you do know theyre playing the Jags @ home don't you?

Gotta love the no fun league flagging the snow angel. Roger Goodell's reign of terror must be stopped. Absolutely dominating performance that isn't much of a surprise.

Re: Official Game 15 thread: Patriots vs. Cardinals.

I want to hang myself.  We looked unstoppable and are going to miss the playoffs at 11-5.  ******* Dallas and Tony Homo losing that game last night, Baltimore will win next week we need a tie in the Jets Dolphins game.

And we look like the best team in Football, we can go into Pittsburg and Tennessee and win.  I am so depressed right now I cant believe we arent going to make the playoffs.

KC played well to watched the whole game on the other TV with the ticket.  This sucks.

****!
