Update on Morris

Update on Morris

Per Scout.com' s Adam Caplan

The New England Patriots already lost starting SS Rodney Harrison (leg) to a season-ending injury during last night's win over the Denver Broncos.

A league source told PatriotsInsider.com that  RB Sammy Morris, who suffered an injured knee during the first half of that game, might have escaped serious injury.

Tests were being taken on Morris' knee on Tuesday but the belief is that the injury isn't serious enough to keep him out for an extended period of time.

If Morris can't play this week against the St. Louis Rams, rookie RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis and veteran Kevin Faulk might have to handle the bulk of the carries.

RB LaMont Jordan (calf) hasn't practiced in over two weeks and his status for Sunday's game is unclear.

UPDATE: 10/21
Morris did  not participate in the team's Wednesday walkthrough.  He was listed on the official Wednesday injury report with a knee injury.  He was not spotted during the media portion of Wed.'s practice.

Update: 10/22
Neither Sammy Morris nor LaMont Jordan were spotted at the media access portion of today's practice.  According to the official report, neither participated. it's a pretty solid bet that both players could miss Sunday's game against the Rams.

Update 10/23
NFL Network reports Morris out 2-3 weeks... same thing Scout.com's Adam Caplan reported earlier, but now we have a time frame.

Re: Update on Morris

If it is only a little bang or tweak and he needs to rest a week or two I will be estatic. Especially with the running clinic he was putting on against the Broncos D, Understandably it was the Bronco's run D but still he was racking up some serious yardage when he got hurt and I couldnt really see where his injury had come from. I never saw a clear twist or anything that made it look horrible.

Re: Update on Morris

I think we were all suprised to hear that he got injured. For some reason and this is my thinking it may have happened during a celebration when someone jumped on him. I was thinking his knee may have buckle slightly as it took him by surprised. I could be 100% wrong.

Re: Update on Morris

Pats coach Bill Belichick is calling RB Sammy Morris "day-to-day" with a knee injury.
There was some speculation that Morris was kept out of the second half of Monday's game purely as a precautionary measure, and that may be the case. We won't have anything solid on Morris' chances of playing Sunday until we see the practice report, but this news is certainly positive. | 10/22/2008 11:35:00 AM

Re: Update on Morris

Update: Morris (knee) did not participate in practice Wednesday, the Boston Globe reports.

Analysis: LaMont Jordan was listed as a full participant, so if Morris can't go this weekend, Jordan could lead a Pats' backfield committee against the Rams which would also include BenJarvus Green-Ellis and change-of-pace guy, Kevin Faulk

Re: Update on Morris

Neither Morris nor Jordan were spotted at practice today. So unless BB is just letting them rest up, it'll be Faulk, Evans, and Green-Ellis against the Rams. In a pinch, Hobbs can play RB as well. Wouldn't surprise me to see a bunch of those WR-screen plays this weekend.

Re: Update on Morris

As of right now its thr rook, Faulk and Evans. Pretty sure if thats the case teh wide receiver screens will not be effective. If you as a DB play up at the line of scrimmage there is not a lot of time for the wWR to get the ball and if your a solid tackler then it will be pretty much a wasted play.

Re: Update on Morris

Well if the DBs are playing up to the line on the edges, than that makes screens to Faulk and BJGE more open.

The Rams try to beat you with the pass rush, you beat them with their own game.

Re: Update on Morris

Thats a good idead exceptr for the fact that Cassel shows that he doesn't handle the rush well. After he sees the rush especially if the first option is covered he will put his head down tuck the ball and run into the defense instead of stepping up in the pocket and looking for his second and third check downs and of covered throw the ball away. This is what he has done so far.

If the Patriot receivers are jamed and can't get away then the scree may not be effective. I do understand and agree you on your point VA. I hope that the Patriots can run effectively this week. That will help them out big time.

Re: Update on Morris

Per multiple sources:

INJURY STATUS

The Patriots had a few returning players  for practice - none of them running backs. Linebacker Eric Alexander, tackle Nick Kaczur and defensive lineman Jarvis Green were back out there today. The latter two hadn't practiced since suffering ankle injuries in the San Diego game, while Alexander has been out since the start of the season with a hamstring problem.

Still missing, however, were running backs Sammy Morris (knee) and LaMont Jordan (calf). According to one published report, Morris is expected to be sidelined 2-3 weeks. Cornerback Lewis Sanders and linebacker Shawn Crable were also not present during the media viewing window.
