Re: Official Game 5 thread. Patriots vs. Chargers

SD and Pats should don the original AFL uniforms for this one,
just for posterity.

SD just lost a tough one to The Wildcat Offense.

Lots of trash talking in this one, SD is a bunch of yappers.

Pats will shock the rest of world this week, but not N.E. is my call.

Re: Official Game 5 thread. Patriots vs. Chargers

We're calling this redemption week considering you guys have ripped out our hearts the past few years. Couple that with the prospects of being either 3-3, or 2-4 lead me to believe that you'll get our best effort.

Ted Cottrell may be a fool but even a fool realizes that Cassell should be blitzed the whole game. If he can hang in there and still execute he'd make me, and a ton of other NFL fans a believer.

I think we find a way to win with our backs against the wall. If the roles were reversed and you were as banged up and discombobulated as we currently are I'd say you would win it. Sunday night spotlight, national television audience, Chargers and the Patriots; wouldn't have it any other way.

Re: Official Game 5 thread. Patriots vs. Chargers

Ya the Pats are actually to blame for all the Chargers problems.   (Sorta sounds like my old girl friend - I'm joshing here).

I do think this will be an interesting game.  Both teams have been struggling to find themselves while dealing with significant injuries.  SD no doubt has had this circled and will give it their best. This has become a very good rivalry.

I predict a hard fought contest that could go either way.  Naturally being a Pats fan, I'll say they win 27-24.

The Chargers are gonna score on the Pats defense - no question about it. However, the Chargers defense isn't exactly "air tight" either. If the Pats can keep it close, - then late in the game, it may well come down to who has the best kicker?

I'm sure the Chargers feel the same way the Patriots did a few weeks back when the Dolphins beat them. And I'm sure they'll come ready to play without question, that being said......

The Pats are out to prove that they can win even without Tom Brady, and they have. Yes the wins haven't been against the league's best, but a win is a win in my book whether it be by 3 points or 30. It doesn''t have to be pretty as long as they win. As for redemption, the Patriots are looking for some of that also. (last year, 18-0, SB, Giants).

I won't wish your team good luck but I will say I am looking forward to a very good, hard fought game with no serious injuries on either side. This game could be a turning point for both teams. And yes..... Prime time, gotta love it.

This game was going to be blacked out in the San Diego area because it was not sold out until today.

Why haven't the Chargers moved to LA yet?  They have trouble selling out Sunday night football games.

Re: Official Game 5 thread. Patriots vs. Chargers

The thing that worries me the most about this game is the interior line play.

Mankins is usually a stud, but was off his game last week. Connolly has got off to a slow start this weeks and Yates is, well Yates.

Jamal Williams is the west coast version of Vince Wilfork. The Chargers have had problems at LBer this year and it has caused them lots of trouble. If the Pats interior three cannot reasonably handle Williams then the Pats may be in trouble.

The Pats have handled Williams in the past and they dominated Jenkins (Jets), but the latest effort from the hogs upfront is a little worrisome.

Did You Know?

San Diego is under .500 after 5 games for the 2nd straight year under Norv Turner Chargers RB LaDanian Tomlinson is on pace for 1,059 rushing yards, which would be 177 yards under his career low. -- Pro Football Weekly

Re: Official Game 5 thread. Patriots vs. Chargers

at Mankins being off his game last week. Mankins have been off his game THE ENTIRE SEASON.  Constantly being pushed back. Not sure why that is. Some have privately wondered if he is injured and no one knows about it (except him and perhaps Dante and BB). I will admit no matter how much I say how offensive teh line is I'm not used to seeing him get pushed around like that.

The Chargers has one of the worse pass defenses in the NFL with one of the best cornerbacks in their defensive backfield. That being said if Cassel is not careful with the ball on Sunday I can see him being picked one or two times. Hopefully it will not happen. The Patriots have had trouble stopping the run this year, they had better tighten up on that for Sundays game.

Morph ~ This has been very difficult to figure out. Not just Mankins either. Joey Porter tore them up and it was sad to watch.  The Gmen threw a beeten(sp) on them but, that should be water under the bridge now. Rite?

Will be interesting to see how much leash they give MC this Sunday. The SDC still have a decent QB rush when they want to. Their pass-D is among the weakest as you have stated.  The "toe" in a close game as another poster mentioned.

You know that LT's chances of a big game are >50%..... Certainly will be interesting.

Re: Official Game 5 thread. Patriots vs. Chargers

As last week, it's tough to know which Pats team will show up. I've never seen McD stay the course with the steamroller attack for more than a game. If he gets loose with the ball, it could be bad news against the SD corners. Jordan being injured is a bad sign. This would be a perfect time for Maroney to find his game.

I think the D will be fired up, though. Especially since a win means they go home tied for the lead in the AFC-E.

Re: Official Game 5 thread. Patriots vs. Chargers

Chargers think the Pats stole their Super Bowl away a few seasons back, and again beat then last year in the AFC title game. Lot of built up hatred in them. Patriots need to play one of there better games on Sunday for sure. The O-line has to come to play and quit being pushed around. Chargers Defence can be had but so can SDs D. If the Pats win. Please no crying from LT or whing about some stupid dance. My gut feeling Chargers win this game 27 to 17, but Patriots beat up on them later in the season, as in the playoffs, LT sheds tears one more time and goes home and drowns in a bowl of chunky soup.

Remember this from the Chargers.....

They've referred to the Pats as "classless." Said their team motto is "if you're not cheating, you're not trying," and accused them of being dirty.

"Richard Seymour is the biggest [expletive] I've ever come across in football," said Hardwick at the time. "They've got 10 good football players on that team. He's cheap and dirty, and [the officials] just let him get away with it the whole time. They've got 10 great players, and when Jarvis Green is on the field they have 11 great players that compete how you're supposed to compete. But that Richard Seymour is the biggest [expletive] I've ever played."

That was from an article in the Boston Globe.

I have nothing against the Chargers I think they have a Good team. I just thought that was funny.

I had forgotten about that, that should motivate Seymore and the defence, maybe enough to pull out a win. But the O-lines play has been horrible as of late and good be their downfall. The thing I don't like about the Chargers is their Whining whenever the Pats beat them, if they would just shake hands and walk off the field you could have some respect for them. They should look in the mirror when they call a team classless.

What a bunch of crap. The game was sold out...before the single game ticket became available. That was around August!

I tried to get tickets....not a chance!
Know what you are talking about Vabthang....the "Chargers can't sell out games" stories are getting old!

Other than that....it should be a great game. Pats will be ready...just hope the Chargers will take this game serious from the start!
I predict a close game.....20-17 Chargers....!

LOL...you guys are too cute! Seriously.
You two are getting all riled up about some kind of rivalry that doesn't even exist.

Inform yourselves kiddos....they had just interviewed L.T. on all those incidents including the one with Seymore...and L.T. words were:
(listen carefully)

HE DOES NOT THINK THAT SEYMORE IS A DIRTY PLAYER NOR DOES ANYONE ON THE CHARGERS THINK THE PATS ARE A DIRTY TEAM!

Most of them actually know each other pretty well and hang out together in the off season.

Now don't you two cry over that, ok? Now how about some Chunky soup to feel better?

That wasn't LT at the podium  crying and whining about the Patriots and saying if their not cheating there not playing and saying it starts at the top as in head coach BB. No matter how you try to defend him, LT that is, he just seems to be a cry baby and a sualker. Sorry, I wouldn' want him as a team spoksmen, no wonder the Chargers have never won anything. I'm sure LT has Hobbs over for a little BQ action all the time. Give me a break on the new LT, I don't think its true.

Who's getting riled up. I was just responding to bowmags post about the dancing thing. Reminding him of what happened last year. Get a grip already.... the statements I posted were of what happen THEN. I know exactly what LT said it was in the article I got the quotes from.

Charger1joe: ~  NEP [+5] @ SDC. Sunday, National TV. We would not expect anything less than your best effort and hopefully you will get our's.

Through 5 games, I was surprised to see how low your D was rated, near last on the pass. Does NE's game plan call for "air-it-out'? It should.  I expect to see a lot of Rivers looking for LT in shorter pass routes.

If MC puts up half way decent numbers this could end up being a real high scoring shoot out type of game.

Now call me a liar.

Fact is you guys have had trouble selling out most of your home games.  The blackout rules in the NFL are a shame, they allow (really they force) corporate sponsors to buy up the remaining tickets, so that the game does not get sold out.  Bottom line is, the Chargers have trouble selling out their stadium.

More typically crying out of South California.  John Lackey should try to get a contract from the Chargers, he would fit right in.

Really the Chargers can't sell out games getting old? Hmmm click here and see how old it is. Notice the date and notice we are talking about PLAYOFF games not the regular season. I guess Vabthang does knwo what he is talking about. BTW I heard the same thing Vabthang mentioned that someone had to buy 5000 tickets so teh game would not be blacked out.

Now about LT, the whiner. I have never seen a football player whine more than LT. The Charger do consider the Patriots rivals (and LT does too no matter what he says between whines BUT the Patriots don't consider them rivals. The Colts are more what the Patriots would consider rivals.

LT always looks as of he is going to cry when the Chargers lose an dis all smiles when they win. At least be a man about losing. Plus he is a hypocrite. Talking about classless because a couple of members mocked that lame dance that Merriman does. Well if Merriman doesn't do that dance SHOWING up other teams then those two players would have nothing to mock would they? Let me help you out, NO they wouldn't. While I did not condone what those two players did (yes I hated that they did that) I think LT should have kept his mouth closed when he doesn't tell Merriman it's classless to show up the other tem when doing that dance.

LT gets a head nod for being a great player but for all of that (they have a word that I cannot use here)  non manlike qualities and looking like he needs a Kleenex when giving interviews with his little eyes beginning to swell, he gets NO respect.

Only a "newbie" in Patriots Nation imo, would start in trashing other teams
and poking fun at a percieved inability to sell out games.

For Pats fans of any length of time, they would know that a sellout
Patriots game in N.E. was rare prior to ten years ago.

And only a "newbie" to this board feels the need to constantly, with every post, attempt to prove to the world what a true fan he/she is and imply some sort of superiority over other fans because he/she has been a fan for so long, especially when that "newbie" has no idea who the other fans are that he/she is putting down or how long they have been fans.  Let me clue you in.. being a fan for a longer time than someone else does not make you a better fan and certainly does not mean you know more than someone else.

Your act is really wearing thin.

well said,

Someone who has been watching football as long as Patsi should know that many teams had trouble selling out games years ago, including the Pats.  But the nfl (not just the Pats) has changed.  Now everyone sells out, every game.  Shocking considering he has been watching football since Princeton beat Rutgers.

He is just mad because he was talking tash on the 49er board before last week's game and i called him out on it there.  It is obnoxious when we have to put up with fans of other teams coming here to add nothign but trash, why one of our posters would do the same else where is beyond me.

He got caught with his hand in the cookie jar, like a little child and is now lashing out.  Don't worry about me, I am a grown man, I can take it.
