With Troy Brown's impending retirement due any moment, is it the right time to have a poll question?

I think so.

Forget about WR, Troy might be the best Patriot ever (even if he never sniffs the NFL HoF).

Solid in the punt game, solid when called upon to play defense, great 3rd down WR, fantastic slot player, quintessential attitude and demeanor of a "Patriot" player, veteran leader of the club.

He did it all well and he did it right.

Could you win with 11 Troy Browns on your offense? You might be undersized, but I bet you could give them a game.

Troy Brown epitomized the highest ideals of this team. No salute adequately expresses what he has meant to this franchise. God Bless Troy and his family.

In terms of Pats WR's, there's Morgan and Brown ... and then everyone else. Stanley was probably a more gifted WR, but Troy simply made the plays. Week in and week out. Fryar was good, but a loose cannon. Glenn kind of the same deal, just not as much off-field drama. If you looked at Troy's highlight reel - all the games where he was the difference between winning and losing - he'd be a lock for the HoF. As it is, he's not enough of a "name" to get in.

Id have to give Troy Brown the nod just because of all the extra things he did, his attitude, and putting the team first and doing whatever was asked to do without complaint.

Hell of a guy...

Can he coach an offense?

The guy just scrapped and scrapped and made plays and made plays. As a "pure receiver" I would say Stanley Morgan was probably better. But as a football player and a New England Patriot, Brown was the best WR we ever had.

Who was the best Patriot WR of all time? Morgan. Who was the best Patriot football player of all time? Brown. Who would I pick on my team first? Brown.

There is no one I hold with higher esteem and admiration than I do for Troy Brown. As a person and as a player, it is extremely rare to have someone that I can turn my children and say, 'See him? Now that's someone I want you to look up to!'

Thank you Troy, for everything. You will be missed.

I love Troy Brown but Stanley Morgan was by far the best WR the Pats ever had and there isn't even a close second, including Troy.. (I'll wait for Randy Moss to play more games with the team before adding him to the discussion).

See, its hard because yea, you could say Morgan was the best WR they've had, but everybody would most likely pick Troy Brown over him.. To me, that would mean Brown was better. Just how I look at it.

Some say "Maybe Moss will change that". I would lean more to maybe Welker when alls said and done. Dont get me wrong, I love Moss. Hes a Hell of a WR, and you cant deny that. But Welker is just another one of those Troy Brown esqe guys.

In terms of what he did over the entirety of his career, yes. Obviously not the most talented or dominant, but after Brady you could argue that Brown was the biggest cog in the Patriots having three rings.

VDC.............Man, I agree with you 100%. Nice that he'll stay in touch with the fans by way of Comcast Sports.

He also left the window open for coaching down the road. I think in a year or two he'll be the WR coach or something like that.

I dont agree with Fryar and Glenn on that list, at all.

Reggie Rucker and Gino Cappalletti were both better than them,

Id consider Russ Francis as well on any kind of "best of" list.
Agree with Troy and SM at the top of the list.
