Game Balls and Goats: Patriots- Buccaneers

Game Balls and Goats: Patriots- Buccaneers

The Patriots looked horrible on Sunday night.  It is a good thing most of the nation does not have the NFL Network.   New England will need to regroup for week 3 of the preseason.

Submit your game balls and goats
(up to 3 of each)  Honorable mentions allowed.

Game ball:

1. Gostkowski

Everyone else who played? But the worst offenders I saw were:

1. Cassel of course. Lucky not to get picked on the first drive. Totally ineffective.
2. Can't I give it to our whole defense? Except our young LBs: Mayo, Crable, and Redd made some plays. Did anyone else?
3. Whole offensive line? I'd need to watch tape to single out culprits -- and why would I want to see that again?

Goats - everybody ... they better be hustling and having the paint peeled off of the walls after that one.   Flat ... 100%

I would always want to give a game ball to someone but I gotta say .. I know it is preseason but, GOATS FOR EVERYONE!

Re: Game Balls and Goats: Patriots- Buccaneers

That looked like a veteran team taking a preseason game #2 off.  There were lots of shots of some defensive starters laughing and joking around on the sidelines.  If they had really come to play and that was the result, do you think they would have been laughing?  Do not read too much into the preseason.

I hope in the third game they let the CBs play some man to man.  For two straight games, they have sat back in a pretty soft zone coverage.  I want to see what some of these guys can do when they get up into the face of a WR.

(how terrible was Sterling Sharpe?  He spent 50% of his time pointing out the obvious and 50% of his time being obnoxious.  A terrible night for the booth.)

Look at the positive - CJax caught two passes and didn't get injured.

Mayo, Crable, Gostkowski and O'Connell...

BB no gameplan, however how can you cut the chaff from the wheat?
I recall a blow-out in Foxboro, 30+ to O vs. the Bucs...little payback there?
Matt Cassel looks bad! vs. the 1's... I think having Jackson play with the 3's, may have made an impression that he better get with the program. He did make a couple of grabs. The NFLN for forecasting the demise of the Patriots after a pre-season game. Dukes for playing a Doctor on TV? Open mouth insert foot!

I think its wrong to say there was no gameplan.

Teams do not always coach to win in the preseason.  They are always working on things, things we cannot see or are unaware of.  At the end of the day it was a game, a live game, but also practice.

Re: Game Balls and Goats: Patriots- Buccaneers

I don't have the stats in front of me, but the Bucs schemed and blitzed!  The Pats didn't...they played it pretty vanilla.  The reason the defense is so hard to learn is it's very complex(scheming formations)...

They ran the same stuff from last week.  Gruden had the tape and made use of it!  That's his perrogative!  He can exact a little "payback" on BB, cause we all know BB would do the same.  During the regular season when it counts!
