I think that the Patriots genuinely dislike LT.  Ever since he went nuts after the playoff game and made the infamous "you aint trying" quote", the Patriots have shut him down.  Him being injured during the playoff game against the Pats would be their best shot.  The Pats hate him and they have a good backup.

Who has a good back-up? SD? Turner is no longer with SD.

I think the Chargers genuinely dislike the Pats as well.  Agreed about LT.
His extra weight "Darth Vader" cage, is just flat out strange.

Thing is,  Chargers beat up the Pats quite physically during the Pats win for the AFC. Brady for one, was not up to par physically for the final because an extremely brutal sack(s) put on him.  Chargers are a massive and cheap shot  physical team for sure.

When the Chargers beat up on the Pats during that playoff game (that we somehow won), they had a different quarterback and a "classy" LT. Now LT is bulletin board man for the Pats and a young quarterback who doesn't seem to have matured yet.

I like those characters.

i think the chargers will do well.  i just dont see them winning the super bowl.  they will hit a pothole before they meet the patriots in the championship game.  probably in Indy

the writer is on drugs if you ask me.  even if the chargers do make it to the super bowl, there is no way philip rivers guides his team to victory over that dallas defense.  he wont have time to find his receivers.  the cowboys added another great cover guy in the secondary when they drafted mike jenkins, and demarcus ware is better than most of the patriots front seven.

then again, dallas has zach thomas in the middle, so that may be something to think about.

Only if New England totally screws it up and play like they did vs. the Giants in the Super Bowl. In other words, the Pats have to play very uncharacteristically for the Chargers to overcome both their strategic, as well as their character flaws and defeat New England.

Meh I've been to SD the scenery isn't any better particularly with the college set added in.

Someone tell me what is a Beantown?

Re: Can The Chargers Get Past The Patriots?

A lot of  players are dirty, it's football, the meanest, nastiest, most physical game on the planet. What do you think happens at the bottom of those pile ups ,guys bitting, grabbing anything they can, punches thrown, you have to be tough and talented to play the game, players will cheap shot if they think they can get away with it.

Some of the greatest players ever were dirty ie. Dick Butkus comes to mind, go back and look at some of the things he did, he was one mean MoF. played like every play was his last same goes for lawrence taylor,Ray Nitchke,Mike Singleterry and a whole host of others.  Dirty----it's part of the game.

Beantown....is a city that smells like baked bean farts......!

As for the poll....thank you people for trusting in us.....we'll promise to kick their butts.....this year!

I think the Patsies (with exception of Seymore Dirtbag and maybe Bruschi) have a lot of respect for L.T. and the Chargers......!

What's with the pictures of those two ugly girls up there? Are you guys running out of fans.....you have to clone them now?

Re: Can The Chargers Get Past The Patriots?

Lesson learned from last year, on any given Sunday!  Yes, it's possible for the Chargers to beat the Pats....but is it likely?

No, and here's why! The system the Chargers run is well known by BB and history bears out that fact. Thier 3-4 while effective is very differint than the BB 3-4.  Thier 3-4 is geared to assist the rush of the Qb. This leaves dead spots in the zone. Tom Brady has shown that over the last few meetings. Until recently, the weakness on the defense has been thier Cb's.  Cromartie stepped it up at the end of the year and looks to be on his way to elite status... Since then they drafted A. Cason one of the better Cb's from the college ranks.  We'll have to wait and see how it all pans out.

There are question marks in the Pats secondary also! We don't even know who will be starting?  What effect Dom Capers will have on the defense yet. It's clear to me that BB accepted the fact that maybe they need a little help in the secondary...

Offensively, the Pats are better on paper.  Well, after all the records last year, I hope everyone can agree on that aspect of this discussion.  Brady is much better than Rivers...  Rb's a slight edge to SD. LT when healthy is a nightmare to tackle.

So in my humble opinion, the defenses will determine who's better this year! Will the Pats "new" guys be able to contribute right away?  Hobson, Mayo, Crable, Wheatley, Wilhite have to step up the learning curve. We know who'll be working the LB's...  that's BB baby!  Still more questions than answers at this point.

Re: Can The Chargers Get Past The Patriots?

They've still got talent, inherited from Marty, - but the question doesn't take into account the "Norv" factor.

Re: Can The Chargers Get Past The Patriots?

Norv, oh no, say it aint so.  Sorry Mat tal Lick.  The chargers always give us a good game but come on.  The bolts still dont have the total package.  Norv needs larger cahooonnnnnas if the chargers are to go beyond the early rounds of the playoffs.

Not going to happen.

Your sarcasm isn't really warranted seeing as how we've beaten you the last three times. What exactly were you aiming for with this post?

Re: Can The Chargers Get Past The Patriots?

I think if the Chargers can stay healthy then they might have a chance. Last year Rivers & LT was hurt so they were done. You have to admit that the Bolts are really good and they will be there in the end. I remember the Peyton & the Colts had that same problem with the Pats. If the Chagers can get pass NE then they will win the SB. But it won't be this year, Pats still win by 3.

I can't believe you guys even worry about that one. And before you respond with no.....you MUST worry, otherwise you wouldn't open up a thread about it....!

Can we get by you guys? Of course we can....the Giants did it....!

Hopefully we'll have home field advantage this year...New England just sucks in January....!

Hey here is a nifty idea, instead of your brillant deduction of the pats suck why don't you give us the whys and hows of what makes you think the chargers will get it done this time.

Re: Can The Chargers Get Past The Patriots?

I want to revise my earlier post!  Now the Pats have signed Lamont Jordan....I have to give the edge to the Patriots running game.. Now, Meriman can't just pin his ears back after Brady! He can try but, that would mean the 3 backs have the opportunity to go the distrance....

Last year the pats at times only has 1 healthy RB, they still won the games via the passing game! This year I see a balanced attack, where the defense will have to play it straight or get burnt by the RB's! This is a huge development!

BB knows what Lamony can do and so do the Chargers. They got to see him a couple of times a year with Oakland. I'm sure they weren't happy to learn Lamont went to NE????

This piece gives the Pats an improved running game immediatly! They already have the best passing offense in the game!

The Chargers brought in Antoine Cason, a very talented CB. How much differince will that make to defending the run? Not much...

Learn to read....PantyfanfromMaine...I said...New England sucks that time of year...as in the place...the weather...make a pick!
Therefor I am hoping for home field advantage next year!

I can't argue that you are better than us, that is until we play you again... As for getting by you...heck yeah...we can get by you as long as we are healthy!

We had 3-4 injured players and could keep you to 21 points in your house....!

Yes, I think if we meet you again in the "playoffs" with a healthy Rivers, L.T. and Gates...we have a pretty darn good chance of beating you!

Haha...do you have "any" idea..who LaMont Jordan is? The Raiders are happy they got rid of him...and you think he'll be a headache for Merriman???

They barely allowed that guy to play against us last year...because he sucked sooo much.

Where do you get your info from???  Fargas gave us a little bit of a headach ...I barely remember Jordan!

He won't be a problem here Jean, - he'll either fit into the Pats system, or he'll be gone. The Pats don't hand out civil service jobs.
