Patriots @ Dolphins Week 1

Patriots @ Dolphins Week 1 Post Rating (1 vote)

Here we go with a Big Division Game to start the 2014 Season

It will be interesting to see how this revamped New England Defense does. With the addition of Revis and fellow cornerback Brandon Browner, (out for the 1st 4 games)  and the addition of  rookies DE Easley and CB Bultler, plus the return of defensive tackle Vince Wilfork, linebacker Jerod Mayo. The Patriots might have their best defense in the decade since they last won a Super Bowl.

Here's to a good clean injury free game on both sides. Anyone have an over/under on how many flags will be thrown? tongue

The time has come..... Here's to the 2014 Season.

Gronk expected to play. Hooman is expected back too. Chris Jones and Siliga both back at practice. Vince looking as good as ever. Dobson also back.

So far, so good.

Except they still have no long-snapper.

Re: Patriots @ Dolphins Week 1

The really only in-house option is  Rob Ninkovich. He does have experience long snapping and has typically served as the Patriots’ emergency option. He snapped once this preseason, against Carolina, on a  Stephen Gostkowski 47-yard field goal.

There are several options out there right now. Two other long snappers were cut on Saturday in Kevin McDermott (from San Francisco) and Bryce Davis (from Pittsburgh).

McDermott snapped for the 49ers in every game last season after making the team as an undrafted free agent out of UCLA. He originally beat out 13-year veteran Brian Jennings for the job, before losing out to Kyle Nelson this summer.

Davis spent the 2012 season on the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad. He was let go on cut-down day last season and wasn’t on an NFL roster for the season. He spent training camp with the Steelers as a tight end/long snapper. He comes from Division II Central Oklahoma.

Both Hughlett and Ott are options as well.

The Patriots will undoubtedly make multiple roster moves over the next week. Long snapper will most likely be one. Belichick said the team’s personnel staff is currently sifting through all the cuts over the past week.

The time has come..... Here's to the 2014 Season.

They will probably have five long snappers on the roster by Friday.  Either that or BB doesn't think they'll need one against the Dolphins.  TD's on every possession and then just go for two!!

The LS needs to practice with the team.  If they futz around and lose b/c of a poor snap it's inexcusable.

They have Ninkovich to LS week 1 if need be. Hell, if I was BB I'd have Develin practicing it too - he's the right size.

The "kickoffs only" strategy is an interesting one - no punts, no FG's, no XP's - 4-downs to work with, touchdowns or die. Maybe he's doing that just to keep it interesting for Brady.

If this was the 2007 Pats I could see it.

They signed Hughlett to the PS, and they worked out McDermott today.  They'll have a snapper ready to go by Sunday.  Not sure why it takes so long, there's gotta be 50 of them out there so just pick one.  Regardless I'm not worried about it.

Very tricky game to start the season.Just put pressure on tannenhill.I think the miami ol is a weak spot as well.

At least it gets the @MIA game out of the way early in the season. Other than Mile High, Brady has more stinkers in MIA than anyplace else I think.

They cut the PS long-snapper today ... so I guess Nink is handling things.

Unless they've been secretly practicing someone else to do it.

I think this is going to end up being a walkover. Miami is a hot mess and they will show it on Sunday. The Pats and Brady will be so prepared for this game that it will look like a cut-and-dried game throughout.

Nink will do OK.

Just bizarre that given BB's fixation on ST, he'd start the season without a LS.

I think the first half will be close ... and then they'll figure it out at the half and walk away with it.

Patriots add former Dolphins RB Marcus Thigpen to P/S

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports that former Dolphins running back/kick returnerMarcus Thigpen has made a move within the division and Doug Kyed of NESN reports that former Vikings tight end Allen Reisner has also joined the team. Doug Kyed @DougKyedNESN · 13m I can confirm DB Daxton Swanson was released from the Patriots’

According to Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston, the team is close to re-signing Danny Aiken to take back the job he may have, at least technically, temporarily lost.

If the Patriots re-sign Aiken, that will leave them with one open spot on their 53 man roster. Expect that spot to go to a linebacker, with Ja'Gared Davis and Chris Whitebeing the strongest candidates.

Was this to shoot a warning shot over Aiken's bow?

The Pats have about 4mil in cap space left over that will soon go off the books. Maybe they make a more significant move.

Stupid article in the Globe yesterday chastizing the Pats for not going after Sam.  If he were good they would have.  He's just not. It has squanto to do with his private life.

Dont like how this game sets up for the Patriots. They usually dont do well at Miami and the O-Line is a joke. I think they lose this one 27-13 and are not ever really in the game.

Wow! That will be a wake!up call... I hope Brady is ok..

You'll be happy eating crow or sad being right Vinny.

Our upside is so much higher than theirs.... If ! we click enough.... For me it's hard to predict a one sided game by them.

Their O-line is new and unproven. We should be able to eliminate their most dangerous weapons on offense with basic good football.  But just so many questions.

It's getting very exciting.. I need real live Football..

Re: Patriots @ Dolphins Week 1

Afc East games are always tough.  The rest of the East division knows they absolutely have to beat the Pats to make have a hope of winning the division, as a WC is not always a given even with 11 wins.  So the division teams play the Pats like it's the Superbowl.

I think with an improved defense for the Pats Tannehill will look as pedestrian as he is.  The Dolphins have good receivers but a suspect O-line.  We could see a few coverage sacks or Tannehill throwing into coverage to avoid sacks.  Also with that O-line I expect the Dolphins may see 3rd and long a lot.
It is the NFL...Not a knitting class.

I'm excited to see how the Defense does. If they put the Dolphins on their heels as it appears they will on paper, it will be a long day for the Phins.

I took the Pats and the points on my Fantasy Pick 'em selection.

Brady had clothes draped over his locker chair. Why didn't he practice? Players had no idea, weren't exactly concerned, business as usual.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Last year, wide receiver Mike Wallace was the big free-agent signing for the Miami Dolphins in the AFC East. This year, it was cornerback Darrelle Revis for the New England Patriots. On Sunday, they collide.

Revis
And Revis is more than aware of the challenges that Wallace poses for a defense.

“He’s very fast, and he’s very explosive, too,” Revis said in the locker room on Thursday. “He’s probably the fastest receiver in the league.”

Wallace, who ran a 4.33-second 40-yard dash at the NFL combine in 2009, still possesses high-end speed, despite not always looking exceptionally fast on film.

“Film can play tricks on your eyes when you watch it,” Revis said. “Until you get out there, field speed and game speed are two totally different things from the film. I’ve played against him in the past and a lot of guys on this team have, and they know how fast he is.”

Miami will be unveiling a quick offense with new offensive coordinator Bill Lazor, who was thePhiladelphia Eagles quarterbacks coach for Chip Kelly’s offense last season. Wallace’s speed could be highlighted in the new offense, but Miami’s up-tempo play is nothing new in Revis’ eyes.

“Miami always played fast,” Revis said. “They played fast in the past. The weather plays a part as well -- playing down there in that hot weather.

“We are aware of all the situations. I think that’s why we have a week to prepare -- to go through every scenario we can player and coach-wise, and just game plan in the best way we can.”

Revis is ready for the challenges that Miami’s offense poses but is also looking forward to finally getting the season started.

“I’m very excited, it’s the first week,” Revis said. “It’s good to get things going now. I think we are all excited. We have been waiting for this for a while, and now it’s here.”

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The New England Patriots almost had perfect attendance at practice for the second day in a row, but were missing one big-name player. Quarterback Tom Brady was the team's lone absentee on Thursday.

Tom Brady missed practice on Thursday, but a source says he'll be ready to play Sunday.

Brady later was listed on the Patriots' injury report with a calf injury. He had not been listed on the injury report.

Brady will be ready for Sunday's regular-season opener against the Miami Dolphins, a source said.

They should update their policy on guys who take prescriptions ... like Tyms ... as well. If you have a prescription going back years, it shouldn't matter if you forget to tell the league while you're bouncing from team to team, hoping to stick on a roster.

And ain't it funny how when one of Manning's WR's gets pinched, all of a sudden the league wants to change the policy.

Yep, which is why I hope he gets nailed in game 1 and is out for a long time.
