Re: Roster Cut Down

Does anyone else think cuts are gunna be tough this year? I mean some will be easy but basically 1-90 have either showed up in a game one way or another or have intriguing attributes that are worth keeping an eye on. The PS expansion helps some but im worried about several passing thru waivers. Definitely going to be interesting the next few weeks

Guess I posted this in wrong topic.....

I meant this topic to also include the Pats roster cut-down.

A few guys will never clear waivers - Finch, Tyms, possibly Gray.

I think Chung will make it.

Will Smith and Vellano very much on the bubble.

Joyce is out. Thopmkins will make it. Tyms may have one of the most fortunate suspension ever.

Bolden won't make it.  I hope they keep Gray and find a way to hang on to White and Finch to go with Develin, Vereen and Ridley.

Re: Roster Cut Down

Man. Really tough to call some of these. Some of these notions are just guesses ...

There's some speculation that if Bradford is hurt the Rams may be interested in Mallett. So I'm not even going to comment on his situation.

I'm not sure Browner makes the team - he hasn't looked all that good and BB hasn't played him much. Butler definitely makes it.

One of Tavon Wilson/Pat Chung is gone.

I think Bequette is gone.

One of Will Smith/Tommy Kelly is gone. BB seems to prefer to go with younger guys now.

Vellano may be safe until Siliga/Chris Jones are healthy.

I know no one will agree, but I think LB/FB Tyler McCuller sticks on the PS - or maybe he takes Chris White's job as ST LB. Yeah, I know I have a soft-spot for these under-the-radar guys BB finds, but he was playing LB, ST, and FB all through camp and did will at all of them. That's kind of rare to find.

Kannoris Davis is likely gone.

Really don't know what to make of the RB situation other than Vereen and Develin. Those are the only 2 I'm sure have a spot.

Finch won't clear waivers, someone will take him just for kick returns.

Bolden and Gray are both about the same size - but Gray could be hidden on the PS. I like Bolden, but my only gripe with him is that against good defenses he has too many negative plays. I think Gray would be better at bulling his way for a few yards at least.

I would not be surprised if they were looking to trade Ridley for a TE or LB - I know there's been no news about that, but if I were BB and I was worried about him fumbling still, that's what I'd be doing. If they do that then Bolden stays.

I'm not sold on White - if they like him, they can put him on the PS and I doubt anyone will pick it.

I can't imagine a scenario where they keep Maneri - McCuller has more upside.

Justin Jones is safe for now only because of numbers. But if there's a trade for a TE or BB feels the FB's can do the job, he's gone. Lets remember that BB/McD shape the offense around the players and not the other way around like everyone else. So some big RB/FB's who can block and catch outlet passes are basically as good as a small TE.

I would not be surprised to see LaFell cut. He just hasn't wowed me. I'd take Tyms over him, but the suspension may give him a month to prove to BB that he's worth hanging onto.

Boyce will slip to the PS. He's shown nothing that'll entice another team to take him, but there's still potential. For now.

And then there's about 10-12 no-names and rookies who are either gone or on the PS.

Time for the Rams to give up on Bradford.  He goes on IR every year.  It's too bad because I think the Rams could have surprised this year.  I think their backup is Kellen Clements if I'm not mistaken?  Now they're doomed.

Dok, you think Tyms and Finch won't clear waivers and make it to the practice squad, but you think White will?  Teams don't judge players based on a couple preseason games.  They judge them on all the scouting they did pre-draft plus all the practices and team work they've done since May.

White's a fourth round pick.  BB won't cut him just for that fact alone.  He doesn't invest draft picks that high on a kid and give up on him before the first training camp is over.

Kelly has played a lot and has done well.  Smith has been a no show.  Bolden did not play Friday.

I think White is on the roster, and tend to see Finch as practice squad, or mysteriously IR guy.

LaFell is on this team.  He IS one of Brady's boys (one of the guys he's looking for).  Why would they keep Boyce, he has done nothing?

Backup is Hill. I'd look for the guy the Bears should have kept, McCown.

Like I said ... these are just guesses.

LaFell has had more drops than I think are tolerable for a veteran. I think Boyce is PS for at least 4 weeks and then they make a decision when Tyms comes back from his suspension.

White didn't show much - I had hoped he'd at least be close to what Ridley can do, but didn't see it on the field.

Re: Roster Cut Down

It had been said that BB might let older guys go first to give them more time to catch on somewhere else.  A little surprised by the Kelley cut.  Anderson didn't do anything so that one doesn't surprise me.  But he was the only "depth" guy they had at LB.  Now we're back to Mayo, Hightower, Collins and a bunch of special teamers.  Chandler Jones may end up playing a lot of LB this year.  Not sure how I feel about that.  If this team has any LB injuries this year, it could cause huge problems.

Re: Roster Cut Down

Not surprised by the cuts. BB has been going with younger guys if they're in the ballpark of what the veterans can do. He's got some high-motor guys in Siliga, Jones, and Vellano to play next to VW. Which is what they need - speed and the ability to chase the play down if need be.

I'm also still concerned about the lack of depth at LB. Nink can play LB as well if need be too. But he's really relying on some unproven guys to plug the holes. Unless he's counting on someone decent being let go in the next week. Or there's a trade. But BB has never been afraid to roll the dice on unknown or young players, and he makes it work often enough to respect that.

Let's also remember that the Pats D is in sub formations about 60% of the time, so it's not as linear when looking at how the roster affects what is on the field.

NFL.com is reporting that the Rams may be interested in Mark Sanchez.  So they must be thinking of tanking the season so they can get a QB with the number one pick next year!

Tebow might accidentally run them into a few wins, with the Suckchise no wins is a lock ;).

If any of them come back it's Kelly.  Seems like a move to allow them to find new jobs though.

Jimmy G to start in the last pre-season game. Opinion amongst the media is that Mallett showed what he's capable of and they don't want to risk an injury if they're looking to deal him.

Fauria on EEI this am speculated it might indicate Easley is healthy enough to make an impact.

If it was after next week, I'd guess he's a re-sign.  This may be to give the vets a chance to hook on.  Kelly will have opportunity.  GB would seem to be a likely landing spot. I think he's gone

I hope the Pats are hiding the 2 back set a bit.  They are using it but I think we will see it a lot more in the regular season.  With that in mind 1 more TE would seem adequate but may not happen so they can keep a back.

They are assuming since Sanchez played for Shotty with the Jets, they would be intrested. But the Rams had a chance to sign Sanchez in the off-season, but went with HIll for basically the same price.

With the lack of 2TE to create mismatches it looks like the Pats will try and do this with Vareen and maybe Finch or White. The Defense will still have to honor the run, so the Pats will have a better shot at getting Vareen lined up with a LB in coverage. It will be interested to see how this plays out.

To make this happen though, Vareen will need to have more carries between the tackles to keep the defense honest and with his injury history, there is a risk. Also the other back has to be more of a FB type which means Gray could be a sleeper on this team.
