Jaworski - Cassel if the worst starting QB in the league ...

Ron Jaworski: Matt Cassel is the worst starting QB in the NFL

.
Former NFL quarterback and current ESPN analyst Ron Jaworski is unveiling his annual ranking of the NFL’s 32 starting quarterbacks, and the list started with Vikings quarterback Matt Cassel. And not because Cassel is the best.
.

Jaworski labeled Cassel the worst starter in the NFL.
.

“My 32nd rated quarterback entering the 2014 season is Matt Cassel,” Jaworski said on ESPN.
.

According to Jaworski, Cassel isn’t well suited to new Vikings offensive coordinator Norv Turner’s system because Turner needs a quarterback who effectively uses play-action passes, and Cassel doesn’t.
.

“Turner’s offense starts with the run game. With Adrian Peterson in the backfield, Cassel’s 66 quarterback rating last year on play-action passes just wasn’t good enough,” Jaworski said.
.

Jaworski hasn’t always been so down on Cassel; in 2008, when Cassel was filling in for Tom Brady as the Patriots’ starting quarterback, Jaworski praised Cassel as a “sure thing” and told NFL general managers they’d be wise to trade a first-round draft pick to acquire Cassel from New England. - (The Chiefs ended up trading a second-round pick for Cassel.) But Jaworski is down on Cassel now.
.

The good news for the Vikings is that even if Jaworski is right, Cassel won’t be the starter in Minnesota for long. It’s just a matter of time before he loses the job to Teddy Bridgewater.

Not so sure I agree with this - I saw a few KC games when Cassel was there. - And having a few receivers that could actually hang onto the ball - once it was already in their hands would have helped A LOT.

A guy who tossed almost as many INT's as TD's during his career is ripping another guy?

Cassell career QB rating: 80.5

Jaworski: 72.5

If MC is the worst in the league then Jaw's wouldn't even sniff 3rd string in today's game

I am not a big fan of Matt Cassell but these old retired QB's who had bad-mediocre careers(Joe Namath) that come out and rip on today's players need to just go away

Shouldn't that be "the worst non-Jet, non-Raider starting QB in the league"?

Jaws is the same one who 2 years ago said "Kaepernick is already the best QB in the NFL"

Jaws is worthless. He's out of touch and is completely under the thumb of ESPN.

And that's a fact right there.  Under the thumb and willing to effect controversy whenever possible.

Hey.  Its his job.  Never a big Jaws fan, now or before

Re: Jaworski - Cassel if the worst starting QB in the league ...

I always find it interesting to read the criticisms from Pats fans toward various analysts.  Lots of hatred for Jaws on this board.  Not surprising since I can't think of any analysts that folks here actually like.

Personally I have always liked Jaws.  And I don't recall ever hearing or reading anything from him that would make me think he hates the Pats.  As far as his analysis of Cassell, I don't really see it as bashing Cassell so much.  The only big problem Jaws mentions is his play action ability.  I haven't followed Cassell closely enough to know if he's any good at that, but considering the Vikings offense really needs a QB that can do that, if he does in fact struggle there then it's a justified criticism on Jaws part.

My opinion of Cassell: I would have loved to have him back as a backup to Brady but aside from playing well one year on a stacked Pats team and having one decent year on the Chiefs, he really hasn't proved himself worthy of a starting job.  He suffers from the same problem that Schaub does.  Plays well enough to win for large stretches, then turns the ball over at the worst possible time.

I recall Jaws breaking down the Pats win in SB 36.  Marshall Faulk needs to listen to that.  It had nothing to do a report -totally proven to be false - of filming a run through - doofus.

Basically: The Pats hit him HARD, and they hit any WR HARD all day no matter the set. They played almost every 1-3 down as if it was a pass, despite the set.  They made key TOs and added just enough offense. Basically kicking the snott out of them, not falling for trickery and making their own plays win it.

Jaws does have access to coaches tape "The eye in the sky".
Him and Merril Hodge...Edge NFL Matchup..Show.. they say the eye in the sky doesn't lie.. But it's all about knowing everyone's assignment.... the inside info that happened on both sides of the ball to accurately analyze plays and player performances...
I take it all with some humor like Gronk and laugh at times at these self proclaimed experts..
They want the bulls eye and deserve to be questioned..

You know, I have said it before and I will say it again: All of us are now experts!!

In this day of technology and access to just about anything, I don't think a guy like Jaws knows anymore than u or I if we really put the time in to read.

Of course he knows more about the game itself and the QB position, but as far as player evaluation, stats, video, etc,  any of us can make blanket statements and predictions just like him and probably hit at just as high of percentage on our picks

Yes, but more to the point, Jaws is nothing more than another mediot. He's paid by ESPN to offer opinions and say certain things. That makes the rest of us more qualified.

I just saw today that Jaws has Flacco rated as his 10th best QB.  Only 10th?  I change my mind.  Jaws is clearly crazy if he can't recognize such elite-ness!! cool

True. Not knowing what guys are supposed to be doing is the missing ingredient.
