Gronk back for week 1??? ...

Gronk back for week 1??? ...

It's a fluid situation, but New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski's surgically repaired knee looks to be on the mend as scheduled with no setbacks whatsoever.
.

While the team won't offer any kind of timetable for his return, the NFL Network's Albert Breer is reporting that 'the goal is for Gronkowski to be on the field for the season opener at Miami.'
.

It has also been speculated that he could be available for some portion of training camp, although the Patriots will likely be very cautious with that.
.

Per Chris Wesseling: '...  It's possible that Gronk's knee will be ready for the start of training camp in late July, Breer reported on Friday's edition of NFL Total Access, but the Patriots won't do anything to jeopardize his chances of being ready for Week 1. - After listening to the past month's manufactured debate that he is no longer an elite quarterback, a hyper-motivated Tom Brady has to be ecstatic that his difference-making go-to target is on track to resume NFL dominance in September. I could care less about Week 1 ... Week 18 and beyond, that I care about.

Get him healthy and in shape for a playoff run.

Unfortunately, The Patriots have no other TEs on their entire Roster that are worth a damn, so they do not really have the luxury here of being taking it easy on Gronk, and using him sparingly.

There will be games early in the year that they will want to win (Dolphins, Jets, etc.), so if he is medically cleared to play....he'll play.

TE is perhaps the #1 weakest position on this Team (although an argument can also be made for the embarrassing WR position as well). There is no depth here at all. It is either feast (Gronk), or famine (injury).

It didn't have to be this way.  Several great big, College, pass-catching TE prospects were available in the 2014 Draft for the taking....but the Patriots whiffed on all of them (instead choosing to prematurely focus on another backup QB who won't even step on the playing field for 4 whole years),  and they bet the whole Farm on a something they've never had --- a permanently healthy Gronk!  They also let the huge and somewhat promising Zach Sudfield go in 2013, rather than keep him around as a developmental player.

The big vacuum at the TE position will be hard to overcome. Gronk is Brady's one and only competent Red Zone target on the field.  Take him away and this team scores just FGs not TDs. Given all the screws and metal in his shattered arm, and his perennial back problems (which have plagued him since College days), and also his knee --- it is simply asking too much of Gronk to expect him play an entire 19 or 20-game season (with Playoffs-SB).

Wasn't it obvious that this team needed another impact player at TE  (how can Belichick have just ignored this need)-?

Given that it's June...I think BB can find a TE to tide them over.

Watch out for the Hooman ... he had some big grabs last year, he came through in the clutch. BB usually rewards that kind of effort. Plus he never seems to miss a game. They'll figure it out, even if they don't add a TE.

Re: Gronk back for week 1??? ...

Alot of people were skeptical about this years TE class its not like there were a ton of guarenteed guys available

Gronk didn't miss a practice his first 2 yrs let alone a game and his 3rd yr he wasn't injured until the very end of the year so I guess he has never been healthy in the NFL?

Sudfeld had to be cut do to depth issues elsewhere or your panties would have been in a wad about that instead. Of course it would be nice if he could of hit the practice squad but that's not BBs fault the Jets grabbed him. Lets also realize he had slowed way down and it's not like he came up and played lights out for New York
