AFC Divisional Playoffs Indianapolis @ New England

12-4 Patriots & 12-5 Colts. Winner goes to the AFCCG.

The New England Patriots will host the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC divisional playoffs following this weekend's wild card games.

With Cincinnati's loss to the sixth seeded San Diego Chargers, the Patriots will welcome the fourth seeded Colts to Gillette Stadium 8:15 p.m. Saturday Jan. 11.

A limited number of tickets will go on sale for the Patriots-Colts game Monday at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster.

The Patriots last played the Colts on Nov. 18, 2012, a 59-24 win for New England. Luck threw three interceptions in that game, including a pick-six to then-newly acquired Patriots cornerback Aqib Talib. And Rob Gronkowski first suffered a broken forearm on an extra point attempt.

Tom Brady is 10-4 all-time against the Colts, including 2-1 in the postseason. The last time the Patriots played the Colts in the postseason, Jan. 21, 2007, the Patriots came away with a 38-34 loss.

The time has come and gone, Here's to the 2014 Season.

If they can run the ball like they did against the Bills, throw in some screens they can win this game.

Re: AFC Divisional Playoffs Indianapolis @ New England

The Bills actually had one of the better run D's this season, so there's no reason they can't run on the Colts.

McD has to control his fetish for ill-timed deep passes - if they establish the run those plays will be there, just be patient, don't force it.

If the D plays like they did the last two weeks - fast, active, attacking - Luck will turn the ball over. Just keep Arrington and Gregory out except for nickel. The Rutgers kids ain't perfect, but they don't get beat anywhere near as bad or as often as those two do.

Well here we go. Luck gets to play Brady.

Colts and Pats against each other was a given back in the day and here we are with a second year QB to face the MASTER.

Very unlikely we win but in a new era Im atleast glad for the opportunity. I still think Manning and Brady are destined....... thats always been the best EVER i THINK.

Good Luck. Hell we will need it more than you..lol but Im glad to get a shot in the new era for the Colts.

See how much classier Colts fans are than Ravens, lol? No posts about Brady sucking or us cheating or paying refs, etc. Just football talk.

I love Luck, I hope we are fortunate enough to draft a great replacement like him when Brady retires

The Colts hurry up scares me

I no longer have the dislike for the Colts now that Manning is gone, he was such an ass. Now that Luck is there I think of the Colts in a whole different light, to the point I would even root for them if they beat the Pats.

Lets hope its a good game that the Pats can control the ball. If they can shut down the run and force Luck to throw the ball to anyone other than Hilton it should go good for the Pats. One thing to watch will be how they play Fleener. He could be the big thorn in the Pats side as well as Brown out of the back field.

Same here, if we lose I will root for the Colt's to go to the SB and win

"Should" be a good game. I say "should" because the Pats have had a bad habit of stinking the place up after a bye week. But the weather will be crappy and if BB can maintain the momentum of the last 2 weeks they should be OK.

They needed another receiver, losing Wayne really hurt the Colts. You know the Patriots game plan every week is to take away the opposing teams best player and this week It's Hilton and the Colts know that. Not having another GOOD receiver spells trouble for the Colts. Signing Branch makes sense. Actually I'm a bit surprised that the Patriots didn't bring him back when Gronk went down. I think he makes more sense then Collie. He was waiting and said he wanted to come back. Apparently they didn't think he had anything left.

If they really think they're going to get into BB's head by signing Branch they haven't been paying attention for the last decade or so. Branch was awesome with Brady, he was mediocre in SEA without him.

I think they signed him because they only have one good receiver Hilton, take him away which the Patriots will and the Colts have nothing. I really don't think it was for any other reason.

@MikeReiss: Surprise move for Patriots as team announces that LB Brandon Spikes has been placed on injured reserve (knee). Out for year.

Yep, considering our pass rush sucks(excluding CJ) Spikes made up for a lot of that.

I agree.  This is not a team to run into the ground.  Yes they should run at time, but they will need points...and TOs.

Re Branch he spent no time with them this year. Picking his brain won't give them much. Otherwise is the Colts answer to Collie - receiver depth.

Re: AFC Divisional Playoffs Indianapolis @ New England

By Michael Whitmer, Globe Staff

Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, in his first public comments since reports surfaced that the Browns wanted to interview him for their head coaching job, confirmed Monday that he met with Browns officials, but wouldn't offer any details on where talks stood.

With the Patriots preparing for Saturday's divisional playoff game against the Colts, McDaniels said his focus is firmly on the upcoming game.

"I appreciate the question, I understand it, and I know that’s something that comes up each time this year for other coaches, and the opportunities are certainly flattering if they come up," McDaniels said. "That being said, I’m going to try to keep my focus on the Colts and our preparation this week.

"Like I’ve said in the past, I’m fortunate to have the job I have, I love being here, love doing what I’m doing. Each opportunity that comes along is a little different. I’m going to leave it at that, and continue to focus and put my attention and my effort into the Colts this week."

"We met, and that’s about all there is at this point," McDaniels said. "Nothing further."

I really don't think the Colts signed Branch just because they're playing the Patriots. Branch worked out for the Colts in early December. So they've been looking to replace Wayne and Branch was a guy they were interested in a month ago.

Collins has started to make contributions. There isn't much speed elsewhere, though.

They have a couple LB's from SMU on the PS, but other than that I don't think there's any help coming.

Collins has starting making his presence felt. Fletcher is kind of like Nink - he has a nose for the ball and makes plays. He's not as big a hitter as Spikes, but he's got great instincts.

Yeah I doubt they'll bring anyone in. They'll live or die with the roster they have.

Re: AFC Divisional Playoffs Indianapolis @ New England

It's good to see the Patriot/Colt playoff matchups again, We normally come out on the short end of the stick but it's still fun.
I really like this Colt team, Not a great amount of overall talent but they are a gritty bunch. Luck is really a good leader at such a young age, I loved the fact that after he threw the pick that put the Chiefs up 38-10 he was going to each player on the sideline and asking them to stick with him. Most teams want their QB to be their leader, Luck really has earned his teammates respect and you can tell they really like him.
I honestly have no idea what to expect from the Colts, Especially the defense, At times they can play very, Very well, And at times they look totally clueless. Truly a Jekyl and Hyde group.
While you never know how a game is going to play out, The one thing that has been pretty consistent most of the year is that the Colts have been a very good 2nd half team. I'm not a big fan of falling behind all the time but I gotta be honest, While I never expected the big comeback against the Chiefs, I honestly did feel that if they could go in at halftime down 14 that we would be fine. Down 21 was really pushing it.
Should be a fun game. After all the years of the expectations with Manning and the "Colts high powered offense", Kinda nice to go into this game with a nothing to lose mindset.

I play the same record all the time - defense wins games. Get to the qb, doesn't have to be a sack, - just break up the timing/plays BEFORE you're trying to defend them 30 yards down-field.

Re: AFC Divisional Playoffs Indianapolis @ New England

When did Spikes even get hurt?  I've never seen a team suffer so many serious injuries on weeks where they didn't even play.

I guess if there's one way to positively spin it, it would be that the Pats are facing the Colts this week, and then more than likely the Broncos if they win, and both those teams are passing teams which makes Spikes less of a factor.
