Gronk to have another surgery?

Gronk to have another surgery? Post Rating (1 vote)

This is getting ridiculous with the arm thing.

According to the Boston Herald, Rob Gronkowski (forearm) may need to have another surgery that could put his Week 1 status in question.

Gronkowski underwent his third surgery on the forearm in
mid-February to try and cure an infection. He's nearing the end of a six-week
cycle of antibiotics, and doctors aren't certain if the infection has been
eliminated. Gronkowski has to have the metal plate in his arm replaced, and if
the infection is still hanging around then doctors will have to wait until it
disappears before they install the new plate. That would not give Gronk the
required ten weeks of healing to be ready for Week 1. Gronk and his doctors are
expected to meet within a week.

Re: Gronk to have another surgery?

Yes he will have another surgery. He has an infection around the plate and it needs to be replaced. This has nothing to do with Gronk or what he has done. Its an infection that they cant seem to get rid of, to me that is a bigger concern.

Wonder if an arm transplant would do the trick, - might be faster.

Re: Gronk to have another surgery?

Rob Gronkowski won’t be having surgery to check on the status of his infection — and ultimately install a new plate in his left forearm — just yet.

According to one source familiar with the proceedings, the decision for now is to have the Patriots tight end delay the surgery for several more weeks.

“Gonna hold off for a few weeks to make sure infection gone before going back in,” a source close to the situation said.

With all of the alcohol he is putting in his body you would think the infection should be long gone...

Re: Gronk to have another surgery?

I read that he is possibly having back surgery as well.  If this keeps up he is either going to go down as one of the biggest What If guys or one of the greatest comeback stories

To see and taste greatness but not be able to sustain it must be so frustrating... and it drives us fans nuts...
I hope he gets his life.... body and mind together. The Gonk Show should be for the Patriots not for him. I hope he's truly invested in this NFL career. If he is, the man is such a freak some really good times could be ahead.

No we'll be hearing that he reinjured but will require 6 weeks of rest and no surgery.

Man this guy`s damaged goods! I`ll be surprised if he see`s the field at all this season; and you know fragile Hernandez will only play 5 to 6 ball games as well. Nice going cheapskates! You give these two glass Joe`s all the money they want, and you let a reliable Welker get away. 10 to 5 Welker grabs 15 balls for 200 plus yards and couple of TD`s when they face the Pats this season.

Re: Gronk to have another surgery?

Gronkowski was always an injury risk. I'd rather see him miss the first half of the season than be out again in the playoffs. They have to get him healthy for December and January.

Now there are reports he may need back surgery too for a disc issue.

Not too sure about that, he may catch a few but I think they will shut him down mostly.

Re: Gronk to have another surgery?

He's got to get serious. I saw an article this week that James Harrison spends close to $600K per year on maintaining his health. Brady probably spends a bunch of change as well - he's got all kinds of specialists working with him year round. No way TFB survives some of the hits he takes without help with flexibility, nutrition, recovery therapy, etc.

Gronk is injury prone - he was in college too. Now he's a "professional" and he has to start acting like it. Moss, TO, Ocho may be head-cases but they train like fiends every day and that's how they're still able to play at their age. If Gronk thinks the Pats won't trade him if he won't commit to football first, he's not paying attention.

Re: Gronk to have another surgery?

Hammer on the Nail my man! I was watching NFL network yesterday and they were saying he`s been hangin in Vegas prior to having his surgery next week. Why the hell is he not having that surgery this week? What`s the wait? Meanwhile this guy misses more football time, no weights, no running, probably doesn`t watch much film but instead gets to party down.

Dok, this is why they should not have let Welker get away! There`s no way they can depend on this guy or Hernandez for that matter. If that amendola fails-they will be finished for next season.

Re: Gronk to have another surgery?

I agree that i'd rather see him hanging around Foxboro all spring and summer and keeping his mind on football.  But it's not like he's doing anything different from the previous two offseasons.  And looking at how ripped the guy is I don't think he's missing any weight lifting sessions.

The timing of the surgeries is decided on by his doctors. The arm and back surgeries are both minor and all parties involved seem to think he'll be fine for training camp.

Re: Gronk to have another surgery?

Injurys was a big concern with Gronk going into the draft. They guy has always been injury prone. I am not sure that he can last until then end of his contract. This may  just be the beginning of the end for Gronk. I would not be surprised if he never plays a full season again and is gone from the Pats after the 2015 season.

patb ~ You make an excellent point. If the Grokster ends up missing a serious amount of early games or,   on the PUP, wonda if the Patman Belichick can recover some of the 54 million he gave him?
Anybody else following his PO stats?
AND, Kraft gave Welker away. Go'figa !biggrin

Re: Gronk to have another surgery?

I think this is where Mr. Brady needs to step in as a father figure and tell Gronk to cut the crap and grow up. That it's not just his career either, there's 52 other guys depending on him and he's letting everyone down. RK and BB are a little too cerebral - Brady needs to get up in his face. Either that or hire Crumpler as the TE's coach and let him sit Gronk down.

Welker is a completely different issue. They made him a low-but-fair offer, his agent convinced him he could get more elsewhere, and Welker decided it was time to go - and ended up basically getting the same money the Pats would have given him.

Gronk needing more surgery isn't the end of the world. They still have Hernandez and Ohoh. Ballard is about 80-90% of what Gronk is, and maybe a better blocker. The real question is if Gronk will be there for post-season. I think if he isn't, and if he's still having a 3-month long Spring Break in the off-season next year, the Pats will look to make a trade.

Re: Gronk to have another surgery?

Good post Dok, - totally agree. ... Gronk has to (grow up) decide what's the most important thing to him, - a serious (very) high paying career in the NFL, which would easily set him up for life - or a good time in Vegas or wherever.

Re: Gronk to have another surgery?

I really wonder if some of these kids understand what the term "professional athlete" means.

It's also kind of interesting how much Gronk's lifestyle stands out amongst the Pats. Just about every other player heads home after the season is over. Whether it's to the wife or their mom's house, they go home. Even Dane Fletcher, who roomed with Gronk last season I think, heads home to Montana to fish and hunt, and work on the farm. Some of the married players get together for vacations with each other's families - but no one on this team does what Gronk does.

I think back to when Rodney, Welker, and Brady all had their knee injuries - they were 1000% into rehab every day - nothing else mattered except getting back on the field.

Just out of meeting ... Good news for Gronk, infection's gone, new plates in, according to a source.

Source confirms docs believe Gronkowski's infection has cleared, and a new plate has been inserted, starting 2.5-month recovery period.
