Mallett - What to do, ...

Mallett - What to do, ...

Most of the under-the-radar moves the New England Patriots end up being genius ones that greatly benefits them in the long run, but their latest idea was a bonehead one. Last week, there were very hot trade rumors involving Patriots backup quarterback Ryan Mallett and the Cleveland Browns, but that would have been an awful [...]

Yes, that would be a major bonehead decision, unless they know something we don`t know-ala cassell in 09. Brady won`t be around for ever.

They need to give Mallett more time on the field this year. Not just pre-season. If they're up 20+ in the 4th, it needs to be Mallett-time.

Mallet is NOT the answer. In fact IMO Brady's successor is not currently on the Patriots. Mallet is HORRIBLE under pressure. And that is being nice. I'm on record about this.If they could trade hm and get anything from a third in up the Patriots need too.

Chance favors the Prepared Mind.

Not a Mallet fan either, and even if I was, his contract would be up long before Brady retires barring some career ending injury. (Knock on wood)

I do agree he needs a tad more exposure to up his trade value.

I for one agree with your assessment(sp) of Mallet. At first I thought well, he's the man. After a while, I no longer felt that way.
NOW ~ Start the Brady search as I no longer feel he will last three to four more years. They drag their feet on looking for Mr. QB2, the fans will be the one's to suffer.

Cassell looked like crap in pre-season the year Brady got hurt. Once he got into the flow with the starting unit, he did fine. We don't know what Mallett can do with serious reps or with a game that's his to win or lose. But they need to find out - and soon.

Come on guys, not everybody is going to be Aaron Rodgers or Steve Young.  If you think that Mallet is 100% your answer for Brady, delusional!

There has been interest by the browns for awhile now.Seems like nobody is in love with the QBs in the draft this year.Matt Barkley could have been a top 10 QB if he didnt have such a poor season.Mallett is not the future for the pats so u have to try and get something for him.

I truly feel sorry for the quarterback that replaces Brady, - he doesn't stand a chance, - seriously. .... He's gonna be too tall, too short, can't read a defense, can't stand pressure, doesn't hand off well, - not much good with the shot-gun, not a leader, leads his receives all the time, long throws are usually worthless, ... short throws are too low. - NO ONE coming out of college, - is going to be able to "step right in", - it just ain't gonna happen.

The same was being said about Peyton.. And Luck has done well so far. Time will tell there.

I agree, the elite QB's are never easy to replace when they are retiring, past their prime ect. But its not impossible (Even Montana was replaced). It might take a while, but every so often its been done.

KC is trying to trade Cassel, may cut him today if no takers. So if the Pats bring him back, they can afford to trade Mallett for draft picks.

There was some interest early but I haven't seen anything fly across Twitter in the last 24 hours about Mallett.
